Yom Kippur, May You be Sealed in the Book of Life

12

On this highest of holy days, we wish you G’mar hatimah tovah, may you be sealed for a good year. Have a safe and easy fast.

Yom Kippur—the Day of Atonement—is considered the most important holiday in the Jewish faith. Falling in the month of Tishrei, it marks the culmination of the 10 Days of Awe, a period of introspection and repentance that follows Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.

“Who by Fire” was written by Leonard Cohen, inspired by the Yom Kippur prayer Unetane tokef.  This song was written following Leonard Cohen’s experience singing in front of Israeli soldiers in the frontier in the Yom Kippur war in 1973.

From the liturgy of the Day of Atonement, there is this prayer. Rosh Hashanah is the New Year in the Jewish liturgy. The Book of Life contents the fate of every sinner. Ten days later, at Yom Kippur, depending on whether the sinner repents or not, his fate is sealed.

On Rosh Hashanah it is inscribed
And on Yom Kippur it is sealed
How many shall die and how many shall be born
Who shall live and who shall die
Who at the measure of days and who before
Who by fire and who by water
Who by the sword and who by wild beasts
Who by hunger and who by thirst
Who by earthquake and who by plague
Who by strangling and who by stoning
Who shall have rest and who shall go wandering
Who will be tranquil and who shall be harassed
Who shall be at ease and who shall be afflicted
Who shall become poor and who shall become rich
Who shall be brought low and who shall be raised high.

The existence of a Book Of life (Book of Living) first appears in Exodus Chap. 32. Moses asking God atonement for his people. Lord said him “Whoever has sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.” In Psalm 69 (verse 28), David prays the Lord for the sinners: “.. Let them be blotted out of the book of life.”

Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) morning service from the bimah in the Great Synagogue in Doh√°ny Street, Budapest, Hungary. The synagogue was built between 1854-1859 after design by architect Ludwig Foerster with 2,964 seats. It is located in Belv√°ros, the inner city of Pest. The architecture is mostly Moorish but with elements of Byzantine, Romantic, and Gothic style. The interior was designed by F. Feszl. Theodore Herzl had his Bar Mitzvah celebrated at this synagogue. Even the people who don’t get to be in any Book may be useful to those who are, I believe. I don’t know though. Maybe all we can possibly hope to be is spiritual cannon fodder for the one’s who really matter? G-d doesn’t make mistakes. It sure would seem to be easier if He’d show up again. Happy Holiday.

He might be coming sooner than we think… The book of Daniel has allot to say about this as well as other books. I truly have never seen such global insanity.

Peace be with all our Jewish friends! Christianity owes so much to its sister religion Judaism, most people don’t even know the Book of Life in Revelation was an ancient Jewish concept!

Yes, if you are not found written in the book of life you will be cast into the lake of fire. Then a new heaven and a new earth will be created.

Right now the world is in confusion and corrupted itself.

God purges everything with fire. Then out of the ashes a new species of humans will be created. Sired by the blood of the Messiah. They will have eternal life and rule during the Sabbath (Millennium).

On the George Noorey show yesterday someone said he did not understand human life, the stars, the universe, the creation, etc.

He does not understand we will have the mind and actual character of God. Something no other creation has possessed. We will actually be His sons and daughters.

Therefore, that is why we He created the universe of which cannot be measured and the creation of eternity.

Because that is the only thing that can contain humans. We were made for this moment. We need eternal life and a universe that is endless. Because we are these creatures Yahuah created to subdue it.

When that time comes and as a noted preacher said, WE COME TO THE BEGINNING…….. Shalom.

There is a lovely Easter version of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”, just google for it – Hallelujah, Easter version. It’s gorgeous! I’m celebrating God’s final atonement tonight. I pray that those who do not yet understand… will understand later. It’s all in God’s perfect timing. I look around me at the whole world falling apart and know… it is getting closer. It is my only hope. God bless!

Old Testament references are, indeed, correct.

However, New Testament further clarifies and delineates whose name appears in the Book of Life: Only those who’ve washed their sins in the blood of the Lamb (the Lord Jesus Christ).

May the Jewish origins of our faith never be forgotten-as most, apparently, have. Christianity does not even exist were it not for Judaism.
