Self-Described Jewish ‘Immigrant’ Candidate, Democratic Socialist Was Born in U.S., Used to Lead Christian Group

A democratic socialist candidate identifying publicly as a Jewish immigrant was actually born in Miami and was a devout Christian campus leader until only a few years ago.
Julia Salazar is a Democratic community activist running for New York State Senate. Before running for office, she cut her teeth as a Jewish anti-Zionist, writing articles critical of Israel for left-wing sites like Mondoweiss and serving as senior editor for a blog affiliated with the pro-BDS Jewish Voice for Peace.
According to a profile by Jewish magazine Forward, Salazar has “a unique Jewish background. She was born in Colombia, and her father was Jewish, descended from the community expelled from medieval Spain. When her family immigrated to the United States, they had little contact with the American Jewish community, struggling to establish themselves financially.”
A 2014 post by Salazar likewise strongly suggested a Jewish upbringing. “Like most American Jews, I w
as raised with the delusion that Israel was a safe haven for me, perhaps even the only safe place for Jews,” she wrote.
But Tablet reports that Salazar’s brother told them in an interview both he and his sister were born in Miami, and their father was not Jewish. “There was nobody in our immediate family who was Jewish… my father was not Jewish, we were not raised Jewish,” he said.
Tablet also found a funeral posting that showed that the elder Salazar’s funeral service was held at a Catholic church, and that public records showed he resided in Miami for a decade before Julia was born.
As late as 2013, Salazar was also a pro-life, pro-Israel Christian and the leader of several Christian groups at Colombia University. She even appeared on The Glenn Beck Show as a campus leader of Christians United for Israel. By 2014, she had apparently converted to Judaism and became vocally anti-Israel after a visit to the West Bank.
After publication, Salazar replied on social media that the piece was wrong, saying she was Jewish despite not being raised religious, and that she does not present herself as an immigrant.

In fact, Salazar’s own campaign website reads, “As a proud immigrant myself, I know how important it is to protect the rights of immigrants and ensure that everyone can fully participate in the life of New York State without threat or persecution.”
In an interview with socialist magazine Jacobin, Salazar likewise claimed that “My family immigrated to the US from Colombia when I was a baby.”

Trump could pass an executive order prosecuting those who advocate destruction of America and Israel as enemy/terrorist agents with penalty of at least $25,000 for first offense and then double it for future ones.
And ban them from holding any elected /public office. (will help get rid of Leftitis/Lib pro-jihadis and jihadis)

Unfortunately, there are many Muslims / stealth jihadis flexing their political muscle and running for office around the country, including 2 high-profile and radical Muslim candidates in Cali. Even if they don’t win this time, they play the long game and realize that each attempt represents an incremental advance to eventual success.

I can’t say that is true. I have very good Catholic friends that are conservative. They are very PRO ISRAEL and the current Pope drives them crazy. It really depends on the church with Methodists and Lutherans since they are more independent.
I can’t broad brush broad people like that. I can agree that there is a pull towards falling away regardless of denominational label. I simply see us as living in prophetic times.

It’s a trick question. You can do it either way, but the onion has to be sliced very thin, and Lox is very slippery, which makes the onion and tomato slide off if they are on top. Some people don’t even know you’re supposed to warm the bagel first. Slice it in half and put butter on each half and then pop it into the microwave for about 20 seconds. That makes it so soft and tender. Then add the ingredients cream cheese on the bottom. Also, leave it open, with both halves separate. Well, that’ a matter of individual choice too.

Elizabeth Warren is an Indian too. It comes down to the image you want to project. I don’t have a problem with people who FOLLOW the Jewish faith, so long as they don’t try to tell me they are a rabbi and I am doing something wrong. Some people who are mostly Christian, identify in some ways, with Jews, but they also want to tell us how to be more Jewish. I don’t accept that, nor do I accept that a true Jew could believe Jesus was a god.
Some things are reasonable to believe. The Big Bang Theory of Creation seems to be working into the story of Genesis. But a virgin birth, to a married woman, is quite another matter. Stories of miracles that surfaced after a few hundred years by Greeks do not hold truth for me. (The Greeks had their own gods, as did the Romans). Historically, there are many who stories of gods who mated with humans, so it is not a hard issue to sell to the unenlightened. Some of the followers realize the doctrines of their churches don’t quite pass the smell test.
Then comes the idea that Israel is for the Jews. It is a simple concept and historically accurate. But there are some outsiders who feel they should be part of this narrative as well, so they inject themselves into it, the only way they know how. First they try to join it, then they try to change it.
