Under the guise of “diversity,” evoking an Ayn-Randian euphemism:
Mayor Bill de Blasio is promising to push for diversity at our city’s elite high schools including Stuyvesant High School and the Bronx High School of Science.
He says 20 percent of the seats at specialized high schools, like Bronx High School of Science will be set aside for economically disadvantaged students starting in September 2019.

It isn’t enough that they have dumbed-down the curriculum and turned education into hard-left indoctrination.
It isn’t enough that a New York City school held a moment of prayer for jihad terrorists in Gaza.
Now this.
If de Blasio really cared about minorities and the poor, why would he deny them school choice and charter schools? De Blasio has declared war on charter schools. This is the demonization of achievement and success, and the exaltation of failure as policy.
This is the cancer of the left. The hatred of the good for being the good, destroying the best and brightest.

Mayor Bill de Blasio said Sunday he wants to eliminate the high-stakes admissions tests for New York City’s elite high schools over three years.
De Blasio said the move will help increase diversity at the eight academically rigorous schools, including Stuyvesant High School and the Bronx High School of Science.
Instead of the test, which students take in the eighth grade, de Blasio wants to rate students based on their grades in seventh-grade English, math social studies and science, plus scores on statewide math and English exams.
Getting rid of the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test, or SHSAT, would require legislative approval. Right now, the test is the sole criteria for admission to the schools.
Middle- and upper-income families can spend thousands of dollars on tutoring for the exams.
Critics have long complained that the reliance on the test leads to a lack of diversity at the schools, which are overwhelmingly Asian and white. Only 10 percent of students at the elite schools are black or Latino, although they make up 70 percent of the city’s overall student population, de Blasio said.
Getting rid of the admissions test is expected to make 44 percent of offers go to black and Latino students, de Blasio said. It would also raise the number of offers to girls to 62 percent, compared with 44 percent now. The number of offers to Bronx residents would quadruple, he said.
“There are talented students all across the five boroughs, but for far too long our specialized high schools have failed to reflect the diversity of our city,” de Blasio said. “We cannot let this injustice continue. By giving a wider, more diverse pool of our best students an equal shot at admissions, we will make these schools stronger and our city fairer.”…

When is the last time you saw an ASIAN in basketball or football? For some reason, that’s okay. It’s because it is based on MERIT. You have to perform. Asians are more academic driven so that must be changed to level them down academically.

What planet do you live on? Many major league athletes do not earn college degrees. A lot do, but no where near all. In college, i took very thorough class notes and immediately after class typed all of them up and confirmed the facts. I saved all of these by class. When exam time came around, I sold class notes from the whole semester. Made a fair amount of money, but many who bought the notes were athletes and many of them still failed. At the time I was rated in the top 1% of college students in the country. So I did good notes class and study. You can’t earn a degree just using those.

I see…so you, a highly educated and intelligent and potential future innovator took time to assist them in their academics for a small fee. Yet many failed. Yet they are probably making more money warming a bench for a professional sports team than you are now. Believe it or not, I only wish you the best as I appreciate your hard work and hope you are making at least six figures for all the gruelling intellectual challenges you had to face in college. However, based on averages, they are probably doing better financially than you now. Don’t you love socialism?

Anyone who thinks the country is not following the socialist path to communism is not paying attention.
Our public schools, filled with communist run Teacher’s Unions have been fulfilling every plank in the Communist Manifesto’s platform since the middle 1950s.
The are only 3 clear choices.
1) Home school if you have the time and ability.
2) Private school if you have the financial resources
3) As a last resort a non-unionized Charter School.
Any other solution which leaves a child in government schools filled with communist controlled Teacher’s Unions is child abuse and child neglect.

That is the ultimate problem: teachers are unionized. In the Islamic state of Ontariostan the teachers’ union endorsed the NDP (Needle D-cks + Pu-sies for the upcoming election. Which means said teachers have an official and public political position, which means these views may be distilled into the classrooms as part of student “education”.

Have you ever heard of private Islamic schools? In Ontariostan those students do exceptionally well on standardized academic tests. Yet they make no attempt to improve the diversity of their students, whom are primarily black and Indian, and of course all Muslim.

In Alberta, the Notely NDP harass Christian schools for not editing scriptures from the Bible and have even managed to recently shut a sizable one down, putting the kids and parents into limbo. I believe it had to do with one of the new gender identity BS components that all the public schools indoctrinate the kids with.
Ontario is voting in a new Premier this Thursday, and the fools may actually elect an even more degenerate one than is currently in power and was responsible for a very despicable sex-ed program. Academic levels be damned, we must teach them the right way to perform anal sex, and whether they know they might actually be boys in girl suits or girls in boy suits, or all of the above, or none of the above – what a shame that everyone has to pay the same price that the stupid do. Someone tell me we’re not finished, someone tell me that we haven’t brought it upon ourselves.

I don’t know the rules, it’s just a thought, but is it not possible to turn the tables on these people by insisting that the same rules apply to Islam ie editing certain passages of the Koran which are homophobic and insisting that madrasses teach the benefits of Transgender, same sex marriage, anal sex etc ? It should be the same rules applied equally or not at all, but make sure you’re not in front of the fan if someone tries to and that stuff hits. But what am I saying, in this current environment, it would never happen, Islam loved – Christianity hated. Apparently, most politicians are handicapped in one way or another – they’re either mentally deficient or have shriveling cojones syndrome preventing them from putting a foot firmly down.
I believe the school in question is challenging this intrusion on legal grounds, and I think they probably have a good case, but it would not have happened to an Islamic school in the first place, guaranteed.

Only 1.7% of the 1% is Black; the amount of muslims is even less. Whites comprise ca. 96% of the 1%.
In terms of millionaires which is a lower bar, there are only 1.9% of the 20 million black families that have a net worth above a million dollars. I could find no figures for US muslims.

The top three of these schools are populated with 70%-80% Asian students. Most of the Asians are Chinese. They have not bought their way into these schools. Many have studied and sacrificed asvtjey come from struggling families and wannt to take advantage of the educational opportunities offered by these schools. I taught in one of these schools for over 15 years. In thevmid-nineties 1/3 were black and hispanic, 1/3 Asian, and 1/3 white. At that time there were special tutoring programs for poor kids that met after school on Wednesdays and Saturdays to prepare for the entrance exam which is a TOUGH exam. Most students in this program were black and hispanic. Yet the program has been discontinued. I don’t know why. But gradually admission of blacks, hispanics, and whites was eclipsed overwhelmingly by the Asian students. DiBlasio’s move is thus anti-Asian. However the present admissions process is required by state law, and there have been attempts for decades to overturn the law but they were unsuccessful. However, trying to overturn the law gets brownie points (votes) for politicians in NYC who try to do so. So DiBlasio will also fail to overturn the law and will blame white racism for the failure. But the irony is that eben though the state legislature is mostly white, the beneficiaries will overwhelmingly be Asian. The law that allows these schools to exist are colorblind. However most of the savvy veteran teachers believe that the admission of black and hispanic students has already been manipulated over the years to allow for more admits than the existing exam calls for. We’ll see what happens. Even for these top schools the curricula have been watered down in many ways. At the same time though many of the most gifted among the gifted have course offerings that are VERY advanced. So some things are being dumbed down while the schools offer some opportunities for only the smartest of the smart. The kids DiBlasio wants in will never be taking those courses. And those denied admission under his plan will be less challenged in the dumbed down regular high schools they will be forced to attend.

We already see the results of such poor scholarship choices: People in government thinking Islands can capsize (Hank Johnson (D)), legislation must be passed in order to read what is in it (Nancy Pelosi (D)), and other liars and con artists who say they are a race of denied abilities (I won’t name them, but they are well known).

This already happens at top universities including Harvard where asians and whites are discriminated against in favour of lower scoring blacks and latinos. SAT points are arbitrarily awarded to blacks and latinos and subtracted from whites and East Asians in order to fulfil diversity quota requirements. Think of it this way, if DeBlasio thought highly of minorities, why take away testing for admission? In his mind minorities can’t cut based on MERIT so you need to remove MERIT and make it ALL about APPEARANCE. He may even require an LBGT quota too.

The key is they (the liberals) want to try to make everyone equal at the graduation, not at the entrance. They don’t want to see success in some – they want to penalize from the get go in order to make achievement all the more difficult, rather than actually help by tutoring the weak and encouraging them to work for success. What is it with liberals? They seem to not want quality education. Instead, they opt for NUMBERS. Schools are rated not on the quality of the education, but the numbers of students that get diplomas – as if getting a diploma for sitting on a seat is worth the paper it is written upon. Schools are rated on the “diversity”, not the quality of the class. Bad behavior is not only condoned, it is encouraged.
Look at the latest news releases: Schools found to be teaching children even in Kindergarten about sex. WHY? In fact, why aren’t such teachers in jail for abusing the morals of minors? Sex between teachers and children are becoming quite common, yet little is done about it other than someone saying there needs to be more “legislation”.
Children are caught stealing, fighting, bullying and all sorts of mean, nasty, ugly things, but what happens? The are not punished nor shown the error of their ways. In fact, there has been instances (such as found in Florida) where police were conspired with to withhold any evidence of wrongdoing by children to protect the schools’ funding.
I say that the school administrators, teachers and liberal leaders had better watch it – citizens are nearly ready to revolt over the muslim and deviant indoctrination being done in lieu of education.
Tenure may be a thing of the past fairly soon. It obviously doesn’t work to have someone believe that they cannot be held accountable in any public-held position.

Pamela, this really peaks my ire to the highest decibel level! Stuyvesant was my late husband’s alma mater, and Bronx Science was my sister-in-law’s! I know all about academic excellence – and in more ways than one..
Now, I am not sure about others, but destroying the crown jewels in NYC’s (mis)education is the last step toward the destruction of high school excellence for high achievers, and not just in NYC. And for that, and so much, if New Yorkers don’t converge on City Hall in MASS protest, well, they will deserve the fall out!

As is usual with libs, rather than make them work harder to succeed, they give a free pass to the people that cannot pass the test. I seriously doubt tutoring a child has that big of an effect on his or her intelligence. Either they can pass the test or not. If not, work harder to prove yourself. This policy will dumb down the brightest because the teachers will have to slow down the curriculum for the “disadvantaged” to keep up.

Why is the idiot Deblasio so intent on bringing down the standards of the city’s best schools. Just who is whispering in his ear to do all this nonsense. This is not only going to drive down the standards of these schools but, will hurt the students who so deserve to go there.
So…….when all these “academically diverse” students start to graduate from these schools, will their diplomas reflect that they were given special status for admissions. It’s only fair.

Unbalanced diversity can be very dangerous and self-destructive. What is more, in itself, diversity may not necessarily be a panacea, especially as applied in modern liberalism and identity politics.
