A Chinese writer, Ding Gang, recently musing on the dangers of Islam in Asia, wrote an article that asked this question: “During a trip to India not long ago, a question came to me: Why does it seem that Muslims in India have remained largely apart from the radicalization that has happened to Muslim groups in other parts of the world?”
He appears to believe that India has escaped any large-scale Muslim terrorism, and even that Hindu-Muslim relations in India are relatively amicable. But to arrive at this pollyannish conclusion, he has overlooked a great deal. In the first place, there was the Partition in 1947 of India into Hindu and Muslim states. Millions of people were killed in inter-communal violence. But a main result of Partition was that in one fell swoop, some 70 million people, or two-thirds of the Muslim population of India at the time, were no longer part of India. Had they remained in India, the Muslims would have been, and would have felt, much more powerful, and their behavior toward Hindus would as a consequence have certainly been more aggressive. Muslim aggression is not constant, but reflects various factors, and especially, in non-Muslim lands, their percentage of the population.
In his study “Slavery, Terrorism, and Islam,” Dr. Peter Hammond offers his observations on the connection between the behavior of Muslims and their percentage of the total population:

When the Muslim population remains under 2% in a country, they will be seen primarily as a peace-loving minority and not as a threat to other citizens.
As the Muslim population reaches 2% to 5%, they begin to recruit from ethnic minorities and disaffected groups, within prisons and street gangs.
From 5% on, they exercise an inordinate influence in proportion to their percentage of the population. For example, they will push for the introduction of halal (clean by Islamic standards) food” and increase pressure on supermarket chains to feature such food on their shelves — along with threats for failure to comply.
The violence increases when the Muslim population reaches 20%.
After reaching 20%, nations can expect hair-trigger rioting, jihad militia formations, sporadic killings, and the burnings of Christian churches and Jewish synagogues.
At 40%, nations experience widespread massacres, chronic terror attacks, and ongoing militia warfare.
He offers a half-dozen examples of countries for each of those percentages of Muslims; the details can be consulted here.
Hammond was describing the behavior, and violence, of Muslim civilians within a larger non-Muslim population. But when it came to trained Muslim warriors conducting Jihad, and not merely angry civilians on the warpath, they were able to subdue much larger numbers than Hammond indicates. The Muslim rulers of India successfully subjugated the Hindus, and did so when the Hindus, initially, were twenty times as numerous. After centuries of Hindus being killed, or converting to avoid paying the Jizyah, the Muslims just before Partition were still under 30% of the total in what had been British India. But this Partition made things more secure for the Hindus in India, and, of courses, less secure for the greatly-outnumbered Hindus in West and East Pakistan. From being close to 30% of the population, Muslims in post-Partition India were now about 10%, a number that helps explain their relative quiescence. They were just too few to cause large-scale trouble. It might also be that the Muslims who had to move out of India to live in East and West Pakistan were among the more fervent Believers, for whom it was most important to live in a Muslim-run polity. At least some of the Muslims who remained in India may have been self-selected, as being those who were most willing to reconcile themselves to their new Hindu rulers.
Ding Gang writes about the absence of “radical Islam” in India. It is true that many of the most spectacular examples of Muslim terrorism in India have been carried out by Pakistani, not Indian, Muslim terrorists. There was the attack on the Indian Parliament in December 2001, by Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed, and the attacks in 2008 in Mumbai, killing hundreds. The terrorists involved were all from Pakistan. Might one reason that Indian Muslims have been less active as terrorists be the fact that the Pakistani groups, Jaish-e-Muhammad and Lashkar-e-Taiba, were doing it more effectively for them as for all Muslims, with more powerful weapons, and better preparation inside Pakistan, than would have been possible for the Indian Mujahideen, who are closely watched inside India, while Muslim terrorists planning their attacks on India from Pakistan are not watched at all? But this does not mean that there weren’t plenty of attacks by Indian Muslims as well.
Ding Gang overlooks a great many of the terrorist attacks carried out by those Indian Muslims. The Muslims who in 2002 set fire to a train full of Hindu pilgrims returning from a disputed religious site were definitely from India. The Muslims who for several decades have been attacking Hindus (and occasionally Sikhs) in Kashmir, have also been locals. The major attacks for which the Indian Mujahideen group has taken credit include a long series of bombings or blasts. Here is a short list, up to 2013:

2008 Jaipur bombings
2008 Bangalore serial blasts
2008 Ahmedabad serial blasts
13 September 2008 Delhi bombings
2010 Pune bombing
2010 Jama Masjid attack
2010 Varanasi bombing
2011 Mumbai serial blasts
2013 Bodh Gaya blasts
It is true that Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Muhammad, two Pakistani groups, have been responsible for more attacks in India than the Indian Muslim groups. But it is not true, pace Ding Gang, that Indian Muslims have failed to be “radicalized.” Kashmiri Pandits, the Brahmins who were the original inhabitants of Kashmir, have been almost completely driven out of their ancestral lands in Kashmir by Indian Muslims; diabolical persecution and orgies of murder led as many as 200,000 of the Pandits to flee, with only a few thousand Hindus still hanging on. It’s a gruesome tale that has not received its due in the Western media, but will be discussed in the next piece on Hindus and Muslims in present-day India.

I’m pleased that you are reading our media, I hope not the Daily Rupert.
But yes, it seems that there was a non fatal stabbing. Without checking I’m sure out of 25 million people there was probably a few road fatalities, a number of domestic violence cases, probably no shark attacks but somewhere a dog bite and a bee sting.
But we haven’t declared martial law. I suppose one could say in US on the same day there was , on average over 20 shootings. Did guns not afford sufficient protection?
So over all ,we’re miles ahead.
But while we are talking about blasphemy
There are apparently still blasphemy laws here, carried over from UK laws. But here’s the thing.

A very much “WASP” law. although in practice not used. There are many unused laws, There used to be one and maybe still is , permitting a man to urinate in a public street if he was in charge of a horse.
We are heading in the direction here of all religions becoming less relevant and less powerful

An antipodean thing with the blasphemy law I think. I believe NZ still has one on the books as well. Now that ‘hate speech’ laws and social media censorship have filled the void no-one’s too concerned to notice they have a similar effect. Religions are less powerful and relevant? Why then do you have armed security outside your Faith schools and abattoir animals facing west when they are slaughtered?

I haven’t sourced the numbers of knife attacks but as police point out, it’s a damn side harder to kill , say, 52 people as in Las Vegas ,with a knife as opposed to a gun.
And the general homicide rate here is only .98/ 100k as compared to US 4.88/ 100 k of population.
It’s pleasing to see your concern for animal welfare. I’m not sure that animals specifically worry about facing west,as opposed to the method of slaughter. Like KOSHER slaughter there is no stunning . I’d be happy to see BOTH banned.
But here fewer people attend churches , In previous censuses “Jedi”was listed as the fastest growing religion until the govt refused to count it . Now it “no- religion”
You might like to read the Ages report today on the real estate holdings value of the Catholic church here.. and in the case of the archbishop, how prime real estate was sold to him privately at less than commercial rates.

The animals may not mind facing west but many of your citizens object to the halal slaughter of animals they consume and the jizya tax they are obliged to pay for the dubious pleasure of doing so. It is just one example of how beholden the food industry is to Islamic extortion. I understand 90% of your animals are stunned prior to slaughter so you can relax a little there. Kosher does, of course, section which makes it less barbaric.
Those rich Catholics (and Prods as well I hear) are very caring and sharing, often donating land and helping with building of mosques. The parish of Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray also donated church land for the town mosque that nourished the two vipers who murdered Jacques Hamel. Liberals would chastise the parish no doubt. Should have done more to help the newcomers integrate.

Halal like kosher is not only about how animals are killed. The 90% of animals stunned of course , doesn’t include kosher. But all that isn’t much consolation to the remaining 10 %

Personally though i would stop all kosher and halal slaughter and they could become be vegetarian. And stop live export as well have seen horrendous footage of the treatment of animals, in both Muslim countries and Israel.
I presume you read the Age article. At the same time the Catholic Church was crying poor in the amounts of compensation they could pay to child abuse victims, they were sitting on assets often of billions and that’s just here. But also continued to pay convicted priests when they eventually were released from prison
And the proddies are very similar. The richest C of E dioces is NSW and they also hid child abuse.

Well actually i was firstly wanting to know how much, Is it an actual amount or something that gets lost in the rounding at the supermarket checkout. And there are so many discounts available i suspect it would be hard to detect. As even our weirdly right wing deputy PM , Barnaby Joyce, who has amused us by getting his media assistant preggers, to the annoyance of his wife[ and party] There are savings in bulk. So that it’s cheaper to have every item in a group halal certified if we want to export, that to have a system where makers have to keep track of which part is and which isn’t. And there are various other certifications that add a minute cost to individual items. Heart foundation cert etc But actually some items i buy dare marked are Kosher, And I think Achmed on another topic here may be relieved to know that dog meat isn’t halal certified

The major food manufacturers here, say that the economic benefits out weigh the costs. That is because it expands their market and there is efficiencies of scale ,we actually pay less.

I guess barbeques can be termed cooking, of sorts, not that ingested charcoal has ever appealed to me. But you’re right, eating the canine is more generally thought of as a Chinese practise; Muslims (well the young males really what with boys being boys) seem to prefer injecting them with some type of acid solution. Maybe they like to rate the resultant high, maybe they get off on it. Not sure but from what I’ve seen and heard it’s not that great for the dog. Know of any groups fighting to stop that? It’s a cause to which I would donate.
So the prolific Ms James continues her domination of the BDS movement? Like barbequed dogs her outputs are not to my taste but I will be interested to observe the ensuing catfight amongst the sisterhood (has little potato added that to the M103 list of cursed words yet? Unfortunately mistreatment of animals on an individual basis knows no religious boundaries. At the moment we read that the shooter at last weeks school massacre used to torture small animals.
And large multinational corporations hold rabbits down and pour irritants into their eyes.
I recall seeing footage of turkeys in a US abattoir being used as footballs.
Obviously if I have never heard of acid injection , I’m unlikely to know of groups specifically fightlng it. But there are no shortage of needs if you feel like donating . Perhaps to rescue bears from bile farms [ there’s no Islamic connection there]

Indeed that method[s] of killing dogs is atrocious But it’s not particularly related or confined to Muslim countries. Also used in Bali which is not particularly Muslim. And when various panics about bird flu where around,we saw film of hens being buried alive

EL James is the author of the appalling 50 Shades of Grey series. As I recall more than a few women were keen to make that a #MeToo movement which James was eager to encourage as it made her quite a tidy sum. Most cultures and many religions past and present have ritually sacrificed animals. There’s only one I can think of that is currently intent on colonising the world for the sake of their god. There is always an older and a younger twin. It can create quite a problem when the younger becomes jealous of the elder, adopts many of the elder’s habits and beliefs but eventually turns against the sibling and vows to destroy the descendants.

No, sir, I meant the opposite: Indian Muslims are not a “special case” (purportedly less violent than other Muslims) because of their religion, but in spite of it. Some Indians claim their Muslims are less violent than those from Pakistan or other countries, that is what the article is trying to say.
I do strongly believe that Islam is not a truly peaceful religion, and has caused massive devastation to India as a whole.

No one know or ignore this fact, that Islamic State, named as Pakistan was formed by Gandhi, who lead Caliphate movement, not only against British Government of that time, but also against Hindu people too, that has make Muslim people success in creating Pakistan and Killing large no of HIndu….

In the last few years, I have travelled to India on business. I can assure you that the Muslims are being radicalized. My Hindu colleagues told me that the general attitude of Muslims has changed in the last 40 years since the time when they grew up. Relations between the two groups are not nearly so friendly, and the Muslims present themselves are distinct and different. I predict there will be plenty of Indian Muslim homegrown jihadi attacks in the future.

No such thing as Pakistani ethnicity. Pakistan was carved out of India when Ghandi got independence from the British, and was done so that Indian Muslims could rule themselves. Those statistics regarding percentages of Muslims to violence in a country mean nothing (even if they were accurately collected). There are many other factors that influence violent behaviour and calculating statistics is NOT a controlled experiment.
The real problem, as far as I can tell, is that indians and muslims tend to associate together, as Islam was spread east while Christianity spread west. You can see it in the offices where they tend to stick together and form office “political parties”; once a large enough number gets into management every other ethnicity and religion suddenly stops moving up. You can look at Microsoft (where the majority of technology work is now being moved to India) and Metrolinx I&IT (Indian and Islamic Technology). Due to this dynamic, it’s much easier for more radicalized elements to band together to commit acts of coordinated and planned violence.
