Finland Responds To Deadly Terror Attack By Arming Police With Submachine Guns

Story continues below advertisementOfficers will carry Heckler & Koch MP5s, in addition to their existing Glock and Walther handguns. The move comes two weeks after two people were killed and another eight were injured in a jihadi-inspired knife attack in Turku.
“We must pay attention to what’s going on in our surroundings,” the Finnish police board’s Ari Alanen told newspaper STT. “Increasingly, we need to consider the weapons and kinds of protective equipment that are needed.”
Alanen said the move is meant to give people a feeling of calmness rather than intimidation.
“The police don’t want to leave a militarized impression, but rather a sense of being a reliable department that citizens feel comfortable approaching,” Alanen said.
Moroccan asylum seeker Abderrahman Bouanane was arrested shortly after the attack. Finnish broadcaster YLE reported Friday that Bouanane released a manifesto and a video prior to the attack where he outlined his motives.
“It is a kind of declaration or manifesto, but what it means, that’s currently under investigation,” chief investigator Olli Töyräs told YLE. “Now we’re looking into how it should be read. Not just a word for word translation, but what it means in relation to this incident and these events.”

Copy paste of what i posted on Facebook in response to this. I’m a native Finn.
This
is ineffective and only treats the symptoms, and anyone who knows
what’s going on is well aware of that. The government is still asleep,
they are unable and unwilling to admit that the country is at war.
This is what we need:
1)
Identify all travel nodes into and out of the country, once this has
been done a strict control of those nodes need to be authorised, so that
no one comes in or goes out of the country without us knowing who that
person is.
2) The asylum system needs to be frozen
indefinitely and an investigation must be started, to find out whether
the system can be reformed in such a way that its reinstatement will not
cause significant security threat to Finland or its people. If the
system cannot be reformed in such a way, it must be abolished.
3)
Any threat elements in the country must be identified, located and
taken into holding facilities until they can be deported from Europe
entirely. If they cannot be deported without causing significant
security threat to other European nations, they must be held in those
facilities indefinitely.
A Finnish Defence Forces
Captain, Antti Paronen wrote on his facebook wall in the aftermath of
the Turku jihad stabbing spree. He has a PhD in military science from
The National Defence University, specialising in Jihad.
Translation of what he wrote:
The
fact that the motive for the crime was found to be terrorism is a big
thing. This is because it’s not just about of violence related to the
growing pains of a young man, which alcohol-Finland has had its fair
share of.
It’s about a motivation, in which violence
is used in an effort to achieve a political and/or religious-political
goal. This ideological effect connects the user of violence into
something bigger and makes the act far more dangerous than e.g. ordinary
drunken stabbing or drunken fist swinging. It’s about a non-acceptable
attempt at changing society and it’s far more significant than
structural sickness. This kind of use of violence cannot be compared to
traffic mortality or even the victims caused by crusades. This kind of
violence threatens our society in a way that shakes its foundations. The
user of that violence is at war and in their mind facing a situation
where they must use violence.
The identification and
acknowledgement of the previous sentence is the first step in resisting
this kind of activity. This problem cannot be removed with hugs, nor
can it be silenced to death. The state of war must be acknowledged and
after that we must use enough – but at the same time as little as
possible – force in order to remove the threat. This use of force must
be connected to a strategic message about the unity of Finland and how
this country and its citizens will continue in unity towards the kind of
time in which the threat of terror is nothing but an ancient memory in
our country.

Now,
i’m pretty sure that he knows that this is not just terrorism, it’s
jihad, but he most likely chose that word to protect himself, he is an
active duty research officer after all. But still, this is significant,
given that it’s coming from an active duty soldier within FDF. Sadly,
our government is still doing the usual superficial stuff and in all
likelihood, it will have to get a whole lot worse before they are
willing to do what is needed.

The first step is precisely what the Finnish police are taking. Control the situation, then deal with root causes when they are fully understood. Trying to deal with the massive haemorrhaging of muslim terrorism by letting it continue while trying to figure out what the cause is, is not the way to do it. A reading and understanding of the qur’an will explain exactly what causes this.

What counts most is not weapons but determination.
The Poles of the Polish Uprising in WW2, Spartacus when fighting the Romans, Israel when fighting the combined Arab armies (to name a few that come to mind) were all inferior to their enemies in terms of weaponry. Yet it was their faith in their cause and their determination that made the difference, not weaponry.
Europe is lame, has no faith in itself, has no cause, and has no will to fight for its survival.
Your list of numbered items would have been sufficient 20 years ago, but it is way less than I think would be needed today. The enemy is now inside the walls, and in large numbers. Stopping further immigration is not enough any more—those of them who are already here need to be made to leave. No country with a sizable Muslim population can survive without becoming Muslim or dhimmi. The later this is understood, the less the chances of success.

Well the measures i listed were meant to be taken in the context of Finland, given how the news is about Finnish police patrols getting mp5s as standard equipment from now.
I completely agree that what i listed above is grossly insufficient in the context of Europe. For that, we need the defence and security community to get together, and be given authorisation to plan and carry out Europe wide military operations to drive out all the threat elements of Islam. But sadly, i don’t see that happening anytime soon, given the lack of political will to do that.
Regarding willingness to fight in defence, the Finnish population has one of the highest, if not the highest will to fight in Europe: http://brilliantmaps.com/europe-fight-war/ It’s measured annually. I’m willing to help defend any European country, but the priority for me is of course Finland and its people.

Just a word about Israel and the Six Day War…it is not “faith” in oneself or one’s cause that wins against great odds. “Faith” is a word that is inappropriate in this context. One has confidence in oneself, not “faith”, since FAITH must be reserved for God. God won the Six Day War, not soldiers! Remember that the Poles, and Spartacus, were slaughtered, while Israel prevailed. Think about it.

The even bigger problem is that the EU is controlled by the OIC, the largest voting block comprising 56 Muslim countries and the PA. The OIC has a 10-Year Plan of Action renewed every 10 years. If you look up the one issued in 2005—“Ten-Year Programme of Action to Meet the Challenges Facing the Muslim Ummah in the 21st Century”—you’ll be amazed. Especially interesting is Chapter III (“Islam – The Religion of Moderation and Tolerance”). And boy are they forging ahead.

How very curious that only former Iron Curtain countries are resisting the Muslim invasion in Europe! The “west” had socialism and freedom of religion, a ripe breeding ground for liberalism. The “east” had communism and limited freedom of religion, with no room for liberal fantasies. Communism is mandatory socialism. Eastern Europe can easily see the threat of Islam because they remember totalitarianism. Western Europe, with their dreams of a future liberal utopia, were like lambs being led to the slaughter in the eyes of the Muslims.

For that same reason the Visegrad group is defying the EU’s mandatory quota of immigrants, however low the amount. They lost their case before the CJEU, face stiff fines, but will not give in to yet another dictatorial pact . The fences are staying up. Good luck to them.
