Woke teachers want Shakespeare cut from curriculum: ‘This is about White supremacy’

The crown teachers once put on William Shakespeare now lies uneasy upon his head as the English playwright comes under assault from teachers who fault his unwoke attitudes regarding race, sexuality, gender and class.
Story continues below advertisementFor the new breed of teachers, Shakespeare is seen less as an icon of literature and more as a tool of imperial oppression, an author who should be dissected in class or banished from the curriculum entirely.
“This is about white supremacy and colonization,” declared the teachers who founded #DisruptTexts, a group that wants staples of Western literature removed or subjected to withering criticism.
The anti-Shakespeare teachers say fans of the plays ignore the author’s problematic worldview. They say readers of Shakespeare should be required to address the “whiteness” of their thinking.
If Shakespeare must be taught, these educators say, then it should be presented with watered-down versions of the original or supplemental texts focused on equality issues.
Elizabeth Nelson, who teaches English at Twin Cities Academy in St. Paul, Minnesota, told School Library Journal that she gives her students Marxist theory when reading Shakespeare’s tragedy “Coriolanus” about the Roman leader.
Sarah Mulhern Gross told the journal that she delivered “toxic masculinity analysis” to her students reading “Romeo and Juliet” at High Technology High School in Lincroft, New Jersey……….

What ignorant fools. If they are worried about slavery, they should try to eradicate it now. Roughly 50 million people are held in slavery today around the world (compared to the 3 million in the Antebellum South). They serve in various industrial, domestic, field work, and sex trade servitude. Western culture and philosophy (of which Shakespeare is a major part) has been responsible for awakening the populace to the ideal of freedom and has eradicated slavery in the modern Western world. Where slavery still exists it is in parts of the world outside of the Western cultural tradition, such as Africa, the Middle East, and parts of Asia and Southeast Asia. If anything, these idiots should be championing Western culture as the noble sword against slavery and oppression of all sorts. Tearing it down will only reduce the whole world to the savagery from which Western culture saved it.

But at least try and realize that it is absolutely necessary to demolish the socialist-atheist on his secular ground. The socialist-atheist is not going to be persuaded that rights are real and necessary, that rights are right and moral, by you pointing to your Bible. By you saying “God gave us rights”. It won’t work, can’t you see that? But if you present the socialist with a secular, demonstrable, evidence-based, rational, logical, air-tight, argument that rights are indeed real, necessary, and moral, you’ve pushed him into a corner. The socialist-atheist is then put in a position where he must agree that rights are real, necessary, and moral or he declares himself intellectually and morally bankrupt. Then at least you have a real fighting chance against the socialist-atheist. On his secular ground you’ve proven him wrong. If he insists on remaining a socialist he knows he’s wrong, irrational, and bankrupt.
You’re welcome to go on being a Christian but at least realize how crucial and necessary it is to demolish the socialist-atheist on his secular ground. To take the secular ground away from under his feet. Only Ayn Rand’s theory of rights can do that.

The Religion of Atheism IS a religion. Religion of Atheism sects have filed law suits that had judges declare it as such. Those various legal actions (over thirty) were not filed by anything other that followers of The Religion of Atheism, demanding to be treated as a religion.
That particular religion (The Religion of Atheism) is filled with little Social Justice Warrior missionaries and evangelists.
Chairman Mao was a member of The Religion of Atheism. Joseph Stalin was a member of the Religion of Atheism. Pol Pot was a member of The Religion of Atheism. They weren’t communists, where everyone lives the same, receives the same currency, same housing, etc. They were simply members of The Religion of Atheism.
I have never stated that I am a Christian, Buddhist, or Animist. Unlike the followers of The Religion of Atheism, I have no need to wear my religion, or lack thereof, on my sleeve, like the silly little boys and girls of The Religion of Atheism feel they need to do.
If someone desires to follow that exceedingly illogical and irrational religion, that is their right. There are no laws against abject stupidity.
And, that particular denomination of The Religion of Atheism, the “Ayn-hoo-ackburr cult … they’re as illogical and irrational as they come. However, that is their right as there are no laws that command common sense or logic.
If the Religion of Atheism evangelists were as courteous as the mormon “elders”, or Jehovah Witnesses knocking on doors, two-by-two, I’d treat them with some respect.
For some reason, The Religion of Atheism members are, typically, rude, uncultured, and ill mannered. It seems to go hand-in-hand with their inability to grasp anything logical.

Uninvited? Do you own this website? NO, Pamela Geller does and she has made it an open forum. Atheism qua atheism, atheism as such, is not a religion, atheism is the lack of belief in the supernatural and nothing more.
I would argue with a Muslim or a socialist, or anyone else, about the validity, merit, objectivity, or lack thereof of any idea.
I don’t hate Christians nor Jews. What gives you that idea except your bigotry, prejudice, assumptions, presumptions, of anyone who doubts your religion. In that respect your vehemence is quite similar to that of a Muslim.
The rest of your reply is nothing more than emotional insults and ad hominems.

One thing {among many} that leftists in the teaching profession have in common in all English speaking nations is this, they have a very poor record of establishing and maintaining upward social mobility in children under their socialist “care” that would benefit from it.
This is a serious failure because they hold back aspirational children from achieving better grades which can lead to better jobs and in some, the desire to better themselves further by reading the beauty of original Shakespearean texts in all their subtle witty Tudor glory.
If he has a good grounding in English, any black kid can benefit from reading good texts, but hey, lets all dumb it down shall we ? In the name of equality of course.

Since these brave teachers are rebelling (should be fired as this isn’t what they were hired to teach) by substituting Marxism and sex theory, maybe, just maybe they should be adding how the black slaves were sold into slavery by blacks?
Wouldn’t those demanding restitution want to know that it wasn’t white men who came to their ancestral villages to take them as slaves. Black (not white) village leaders sold members of their tribe into slavery, raided other villages for people to sell, and sold their own slaves. Yes, black Africans had their own slaves, too.
And to whom were these slaves sold to? Arabs, who also raided Europe for white slaves, gathering women and children for the slave market. Blond teenaged girls were very marketable especially if they had green or blue eyes. Boys were put into military training so Muslims need not die in wars.
BTW, it’s called English literature. Not white book studies. If a writer is exceptional they may be included in the reading list no matter their colour.
Oh yes, as per the times, Shakespeare was an antisemite. No one seems bothered about that. His being white, well get out the pitchforks and start the bonfire!
