Changing the names of sports teams or tournaments is not about racism. It’s about destroying American culture, which the Left believes is systemically racist. In the wake of George Floyd’s death late last month, a wave of social justice rage has resulted in toppled statues, banned Confederate flags, and the renaming of famous American brands such as Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben’s — and now the social justice warriors are coming for “The Masters” golf tournament.
The sports blog Deadspin published an op-ed Monday calling for the historic professional golf tournament, which is held at the Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia, to change its name back to its pre-1939 moniker: The Augusta National Invitational.
Sports journalist Rob Parker, who wrote the piece, argued that the name conjures up thoughts of slave masters in the south and not mastery of the game of golf, and added that the golf club has a history of racist and sexist policies.
Here’s an excerpt from the op-ed:
Augusta National was built on grounds that were once a slave plantation and was the property of a slave owner. And according to a 2019 New Yorker piece about the course, it’s believed that enslaved Blacks were housed on the property.
And be honest. When you hear anyone say the Masters, you think of slave masters in the South. There’s nothing else, nothing special. You don’t think of someone mastering the game of golf. When has anyone mastered golf?
The only thing worse than the name of the event is the actual venue.
The golf course where it’s held annually held long racist and sexist policies. Augusta National admitted no African American members until 1990 and no women members until 2012. The club long required all caddies to be black and banned black golfers from the Masters Tournament until Lee Elder participated in 1975.Parker even went so far as to link to a dictionary.com definition of the word “master,” which states the noun could describe an “owner of a slave.”
“The Masters never felt good or even sounded good when you said it,” Parker wrote. “It’s a dark reminder of America’s ugly past.”
Preempting any pushback, he argued that to suggest the name change “isn’t out of line or going too far,” and added that “it’s amazing these names and symbols have been allowed all this time.”
According to the Golf Channel, in the early 1930s, investment banker and co-founder Clifford Roberts suggested the tournament’s name be “The Masters” as a reference to the “masters of golf” who played in it, but legendary golfer and co-founder Bobby Jones “thought the name immodest.” Years later, Roberts ultimately got his way and the name was changed in 1939.
The Masters Tournament has not publicly responded to Parker’s demands.
The tournament, which is one of four major events on the Professional Golf Association’s annual calendar, was rescheduled earlier this year over coronavirus concerns. It is now set to take place Nov. 9-15.

If you want, just request it and I’ll list the verses from the Old and the New Testament where God clearly condemns this. In fact, He singles it out as an abomination.
In Biblical days people were often slaves to pay off debts. It was not uncommon for people to have slaves however you were not supposed to mistreat them. I wouldn’t say Paul condoned slavery. He handled it in a Christian way. Paul paid off the debt of a slave and sent him back to his owner. He wanted his owner to treat him as a Christian too since the owner was a Christian.
Here’s an example –
Onesimus was a slave. His master Philemon was a Christian. Onesimus had evidently run away from Colossae (Colossians 4:9) to Rome where Paul, in prison, had led him to faith in Jesus. Now he was sending Onesimus back to Philemon. This letter tells Philemon how to receive Onesimus.
In the process, Paul does at least 11 things that work together to undermine slavery.
1/. Paul draws attention to Philemon’s love for all the saints. “I hear of your love and of the faith that you have toward the Lord Jesus and for all the saints” (1:5). This puts Philemon’s relationship with Onesimus (now one of the saints) under the banner of love, not just commerce.
2/. Paul models for Philemon the superiority of appeals over commands when it comes to relationships governed by love. “Accordingly, though I am bold enough in Christ to command you to do what is required, yet for love’s sake I prefer to appeal to you” (1:8-9). This points Philemon to the new dynamics that will hold sway between him and Onesimus. Acting out of freedom from a heart of love is the goal in the relationship.
3/. Paul heightens the sense of Onesimus being in the family of God by calling him his child. “I appeal to you for my child, Onesimus, whose father I became in my imprisonment” (1:10). Remember, Philemon, however you deal with him, you are dealing with my child.
4/. Paul raises the stakes again by saying that Onesimus has become entwined around his own deep affections. “I am sending him back to you, sending my very heart” (1:12). The word for “heart” is “bowels.” This means, “I am deeply bound emotionally to this man.” Treat him that way.
5/. Paul again emphasizes that he wants to avoid force or coercion in his relationship with Philemon. “I would have been glad to keep him with me…but I preferred to do nothing without your consent in order that your goodness might not be by compulsion but of your own accord” (1:13-14). This is pointing Philemon how to deal with Onesimus so that he too will act “of his own accord.”
6/. Paul raises the intensity of the relationship again with the word forever. “For this perhaps is why he was parted from you for a while, that you might have him back forever” (1:15). In other words, Onesimus is not coming back into any ordinary, secular relationship. It is forever.
7/. Paul says that Philemon’s relationship can no longer be the usual master-slave relationship. “[You have him back] no longer as a slave but more than a slave, as a beloved brother” (1:16). Whether he lets Onesimus go back free to serve Paul, or keeps him in his service, things cannot remain as they were. “No longer as a slave” does not lose its force when Paul adds, “more than a slave.”
8/. In that same verse (1:16), Paul refers to Onesimus as Philemon’s beloved brother. This is the relationship that takes the place of slave. “No longer as a slave…but as a beloved brother.” Onesimus now gets the “holy kiss” (1 Thessalonians 5:26) from Philemon and eats at his side at the Lord’s Table.
9/. Paul makes clear that Onesimus is with Philemon in the Lord. “[He is] a beloved brother…in the Lord” (1:16). Onesimus’s identity is now the same as Philemon’s. He is “in the Lord.”
10/. Paul tells Philemon to receive Onesimus the way he would receive Paul. “So if you consider me your partner, receive him as you would receive me” (1:17). This is perhaps as strong as anything he has said: Philemon, how would you see me, treat me, relate to me, receive me? Treat your former slave and new brother that way.
11/. Paul says to Philemon that he will cover all Onesimus’s debts. “If he has wronged you at all, or owes you anything, charge that to my account” (1:18). Philemon would no doubt be shamed by this, if he had any thoughts of demanding repayment from his new brother, because Paul is in prison! He lives off the gifts of others. Philemon is the one who is to prepare a guest room for Paul! (1:22).
The upshot of all this is that, without explicitly prohibiting slavery, Paul has pointed the church away from slavery because it is an institution which is incompatible with the way the gospel works in people’s lives. Whether the slavery is economic, racial, sexual, mild, or brutal, Paul’s way of dealing with Philemon works to undermine the institution across its various manifestations. To walk “in step with the truth of the gospel” (Galatians 2:14) is to walk away from slavery.

Lest we forget all the WHITE people who were SLAVES …… you call them “indentured servants”, yet you know NOTHING about them.
When you own something for the life of that thing, you do all you can to care for that item and to make sure that the life of that thing is a long as possible to get the maximum usage out of it.
However, when you own something for a limited amount of time (indenture), you really don’t give a damn how long it will last as long as you get the absolute maximum amount of use from that item in the limited time that you will have control of that item.
Most ‘slaves’ were well cared for and take care of (much like the new pickup truck, or car, that you recently bought …… most ‘indentured’, or ‘rental’ item are used, abused, and returned (much like the tool that you rented from “tools R us”.
Why don’t you people do a little bit of ACTUAL RESEARCH, use the internet to search “white slaves”. Learn about the CHILDREN who were worked to death because they were English orphans purchased by NORTHERN FACTORIES. Young boys had ropes tied around they chest and ankles so when/if they died cleaning hot chimneys they could be pulled out so they would not plug the chimney – yes, hot chimneys,k because the NORTHERN FACTORIES could not “afford” to be shut down any longer than ‘necessary’ for maintenance.

Nor me although I was aware that Steve Stills’ song with Buffalo Springfield (For What It’s Worth) was about Kent State. I’ve got the Grateful Dead with Bob Dylan. I worked in Vancouver for a time and a young draft-dodger from Seattle came to work with us. That was the first time I came into contact with US domestic policy. Our society is becoming a mirror image of American society although it is very different. We’ve never had a race problem except for a few problems in the 1960s. We never had slavery on British soil although I realise we were in the business of moving slaves from Africa to the southern states and the Bahamas. We were also the first country to abolish slavery. Ipswich, Suffolk museum has an exhibition concerning the abolition of slavery because one of the main abolitionists of slavery was a native of Ipswich.

I played Augusta National twice which is hollowed ground to golfers worldwide.
Bobby Jones built the club was brilliant golfer, an Attorney from Atlanta.
I played golf for 50 yrs. I NEVER once thought the Masters referred to slavery.
The Masters refers to golfers that mastered the game as the course is very demanding due to the very fast putting greens, the tight fairways, the ponds & creeks on the property. Frankly this is a socialist ploy to undermine society –

A proposed policy platform for the Democrat Party, drafted by supporters of presumed Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), would give asylum to the world’s migrants — inviting them all to the United States to live and work.
The document, known as the Biden-Sanders Unity Task Force Recommendations, would provide amnesty and a pathway to U.S. citizenship to the 11 to 22 million illegal aliens living in the nation and welcome hundreds of millions of the world’s migrants.
The proposed Democrat platform would expand asylum for migrants arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border, freeing them into the interior of the nation while they await their hearings. Gallup research from 2018 finds that nearly 160 million migrants around the world would move to the U.S. if given the opportunity — five million of which are located in Central America.
Likewise, the plan ends construction of the border wall, halts deportations for illegal aliens, ends all travel bans on national security-risk nations, China, Europe, Brazil, and Iran, ends agreements between the U.S. and Central America to reduce illegal immigration, and ends most federal detention of illegal aliens.
The plan also calls for:
Restarting DACA for young illegal aliens
Restraining DAPA for the illegal parents of DACA illegal aliens
Rescinding Trump’s “national emergency” at the border
Increasing refugee resettlement
Gives Obamacare to DACA illegal aliens
Forces Americans to subsidize welfare-dependent legal immigration
Expands the scandal-plagued U visa program
Restarts employment-based green card system
The massive expansion of illegal and legal immigration — in addition to the hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens and more than 2.5 million legal immigrants and foreign workers added to the U.S. population every year — would come as more than 35 million Americans are unemployed or underemployed.
An amnesty for all illegal aliens, expansion of asylum, more refugee resettlement, and continued admissions of employment-based green cards would mean tens of millions more foreign nationals for whom unemployed Americans would have to compete for jobs against.

The basic title for any man is ‘Mister’, a derivative of ‘Master’. The basic title for any married woman is ‘Mrs.’ which means ‘Mistress’. Boys used to be called ‘Young Master’ but that’s a bit archaic.
There are people working long and hard on changing not just English but all Indo-European languages. Apparently, those first Proto-Indo-Europeans (PIE) were unapologetic misogynists and structured that into their language and today’s feminists are forced to demean themselves every time they open their mouths to talk. The Democrat Party is Fascist and Socialist like Hitler and Antisemite like the Left is. The Democrat Party champions blacks, but they used to harass blacks when the Democrats created the KKK. The Democrats used to make kids with their black slaves and they didn’t want their black kids to talk back to them so they dressed up in hoods at night, in order to keep their black babies quiet. They remind me of my uncle who dressed up as Santa and came to the house and my cousins were all giggling that whispering to me that “it’s our dad Uncle Jan” and I couldn’t understand how he managed to hide so well because I was stuck with the idea of Santa and that impression overwhelmed me. Finally, I got the idea that he was some kind of morphed form of half-Uncle Jan and half Santa. I guess that’s what the Democrats are about. They’re half Left and half Right like my Uncle Jan. What disturbed me about Santa/Jan was that he also stunk of beer and was sweating the hell under his fake beard and I thought that was not the Santa I loved and worshiped as a young child. But I was a five year-old kid and my cousins were doing a trip on my mind to mix me up. damm those wicked kids! Always messing up things! There’s no respect any more. Damm them kids!
