John Kerry says Earth has 9 years to avert the worst consequences of climate crisis: “There’s no faking it on this one”

The wild winter weather this week has been called historic and unprecedented, and John Kerry, U.S. special presidential envoy for climate, wants to stop it from becoming typical.
“Obviously we want to prevent this from becoming the new normal to the degree that we can,” Kerry told CBS News’ Ben Tracy.
Many people wrongly believe that climate change only relates to temperatures increasing, not decreasing.
Kerry said it threatens all weather patterns.
“I think it’s a very appropriate way to think of it, so it is directly related to the warming, even though your instinct is to say, wait a minute, this is the new Ice Age. But it’s not,” Kerry said. “It is coming from the global warming and it threatens all the normal weather patterns.”
The planet is warming in large part because of greenhouse gas emissions that are pumped into the sky from power plants, cars, planes and industry. It even comes from the way we raise and grow our food. America is the second-largest emitter behind China of greenhouse gases that are warming the planet.
That warming is believed to make storms stronger, droughts drier and oceans higher. That means certain places on Earth where people currently live will become unlivable. In fact, it is already happening.
Kerry said we have only a few years left to avoid a climate catastrophe.
“Well, the scientists told us three years ago we had 12 years to avert the worst consequences of climate crisis. We are now three years gone, so we have nine years left,” he said.
That’s where the Paris accord, a climate treaty dedicated to lowering greenhouse gas emissions in more than 180 countries around the world, comes in. It was named after the City of Light, where it was agreed to back in 2015. But the pledges made then by nearly every country on Earth to cut their planet-warming emissions will no longer cut it.
“Even if we did everything that we said we were going to do when we signed up in Paris we would see a rise in the Earth’s temperature to somewhere around 3.7 degrees or more, which is catastrophic,” Kerry said.

When Kerry was secretary of state in 2016 he signed the Paris climate accord. A year later he watched his signature accomplishment erased by then-President Trump. In 2017, Mr. Trump announced he was pulling out of the landmark deal. His administration rolled back more than 100 environmental regulations.
But renewable energy like wind turbines and solar panels are now much cheaper and are providing record amounts of energy in the U.S., putting some coal plants out of business.
Automakers like Tesla that make luxury cars that run on batteries have inspired other car manufacturing companies to do the same. General Motors announced in January it will go mostly electric by 2035. Kerry said that’s great news, but the country will need to transition to clean energy much faster and this will both create and cut jobs. He also said there’s been too little action and too much hot air.

They’ve been laughing their sick freaking asses off ever since they convinced the world that oil comes from dead plants and animals. That raised our energy prices as high as they could go, sent us to the ME (instead of elsewhere in our own hemisphere) to buy oil from our enemies, and protect their oil, and protect their shipping lanes….at our expense. We NEVER needed a drop of oil from the ME. They added another big laugh by convincing the world that a greenhouse effect is possible in our atmosphere AND that a trace gas (or any gas) causes it. Now they use the term “climate change”, confident that everyone will suck up that BS too. Lie on top of lie on top of lie on top of lie = the last century. We also never needed cheap junk from China, but they have us enriching that enemy as well, at our expense. We’re being slowly strangled to death by a bunch of sadistic billionaire families with far too much wealth and power.

Everyone knows that all we need to power those electric cars are outlets in our garages. Electricity is magically generated by those outlets. And batteries. They are easily manufactured with battery stuff; no need to talk about what goes in them or what to do with them when they are no longer useful.

How many times have these climate alarmists cried wolf but the wolf never shows up? In fact, the data that is used to support global warming; that our use of fossil fuels is responsible for it, is fake through and through. Carbon dioxide lags some 800 years behind a rise in earth’s temperature. In other words, carbon dioxide does not cause the earth’s temperature to rise. Use all the petroleum you want, it will only help to green our planet. Yes, carbon dioxide is plant food.

These climate disaster predictions are so convenient. When 9 years pass and nothing happens they can simply move the disaster time-line up another 9 years.
Remember in the early 2000’s when they preached Florida and other locations would be underwater by the mid-201*’s.

Earth’s climate must be viewed in terms of geologic time (NOT human life time) because it is driven by one thing – the thermal energy from the Sun. The amount of energy injected into the atmosphere and Earth’s surface varies over very long time periods that are controlled by the Milankovitch cycles. Milankovitch cycles were proposed in the early 20th century and validated by NASA in 1976. They accurately show that the Earth goes through temperature swings on a 100,000 year cycle. We experience ice ages that last 95 to 125,000 years and interglacial warming periods that last 10,000 to 15,000 years. We have been in the current interglatial warm period for about 11,000 years. In addition, CO2 is a very weak greenhouse gas (GHG). With increasing concentrations in the atmosphere, the ability of CO2 to warm the atmosphere decreases with increasing concentrations. Water vapor, at 1-4% of the atmosphere is a much better GHG than CO2 at 0.04% of the atmosphere by volume.
