The ICC’s chief prosecutor was sanctioned based on the court’s “illegitimate attempts to subject Americans to its jurisdiction,” said U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

The United States sanctioned two top officials at the International Criminal Court, which U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, in announcing the move on Wednesday, called a “thoroughly broken and corrupt institution.”
ICC chief prosecutor Fatou Bensouda and Phakiso Mochochoko, head of The Hague court’s Jurisdiction, Complementarity and Cooperation Division, were sanctioned for the court’s “illegitimate attempts to subject Americans to its jurisdiction,” Pompeo told reporters at the U.S. State Department.
He warned that individuals and entities “that continue to support those individuals risk exposure to sanctions as well.”
The ICC has been investigating whether war crimes have been committed by the United States in the war in Afghanistan and by Israel during the 2014 summer war with Gaza (the Israel Defense Forces’ “Operation Protective Edge”), in addition to alleged crimes in the West Bank’s disputed territories.
In June, the Trump administration authorized sanctions against ICC officials behind those investigations, in addition to visa restrictions against ICC officials and their family members.
Last year, the United States revoked Bensouda’s visa after she requested ICC judges to open a probe into alleged war crimes by the United States in Afghanistan.
Neither the United States nor Israel is a member of The Hague court.
Richard Dicker, the international justice director at Human Rights Watch, told the AP that the move is “a stunning perversion of U.S. sanctions, devised to penalize rights abusers and kleptocrats, to persecute those tasked with prosecuting international crimes.”
“The Trump administration has twisted these sanctions to obstruct justice, not only for certain war crimes victims but for atrocity victims anywhere looking to the International Criminal Court for justice,” he said.
Human-rights lawyer and Middle East analyst Irina Tsukerman told JNS that Bensouda and Mochochoko have aided and abetted what she deemed corruption.

Anyone know under what authority this court operates? Is it yet another EU thing? I think since Trump & Pompeo are against it the dems are going to want to open America up to them which would be a big mistake, as we have our own justice system and are not globalists, we are Americans.

The U.S. is not part of this court. This is their attempt to create a one world court. It’s often called a World Court. It’s under the U.N.

19 are Asia-Pacific States,
18 are from Eastern Europe,

25 are from Western European and other States.
It could be they mistakenly see Trump as weak with our “divided” country and hoping to take advantage of that.

The U.S. is a sovereign country. We are not part of or under the thumb of the ICC. The ICC has no jurisdiction over us. Under Trump, you will not presume that has changed and suck us in to submit to your dream of a one world court. Trump will not bend over for you!
