Communist Cuba Cracks Down On Protesters Marching For “LIBERTAD!”

Silence from Democrat communists such as AOC and Bernie Sanders. They want this third world life for you and your children.

From the Wall Street Journal editorial board: It isn’t clear if this outburst has staying power or can be crushed like all the others. The regime is taking no chances. Mr. Díaz-Canel has unleashed his military and Ministry of Interior agents to stop the protests with arrests and beatings. On Sunday he called for “revolutionaries”—plain-clothes thugs—to take to the streets to attack protesters and warned that his opponents “will have to go over our dead body if they want to overturn the revolution.” This state use of violence is standard operating procedure in Cuba, and there are reports that Mr. Díaz-Canel has cut off all internet service that the regime controls. He won’t give up easily because he has much to lose (WSJ). Biden issued a statement of support to the protestors (Twitter). From Hugh Hewitt: Great start by @JoeBiden. Now get on plane to Miami and speak it there, w/ @VP @SecBlinken @jakejsullivan @marcorubio @SenRickScott @RonDeSantisFL flanking, and ditto to @RepMcGovern @AOC etc / @HouseGOP added in. One front. #CubaSOS #CubaLibre (Twitter). From Donald Trump: “I stand with the Cuban people 100% in their fight for freedom. The Government must let them speak and be free!” (Daily Caller). A passionate speech on the Senate floor by Marco Rubio (Twitter). From WaPo Cuban columnist Abraham Jimenez Enoa: Those who came out in defiance included the woman I saw leaving her old apartment building in downtown Havana to confront a group of police officers who were beating a man with their batons. The man was screaming, “You are doing this to me just because I want to live and eat.” That’s exactly what moved people to the streets. The woman stood in front of the officers and yelled at them about the lack of medicine and food, about her covid-19 diagnosis, about the ambulance who had to pick her up a few days ago. “Do you think this is a country? Is this the trash you are defending?” she asked them. The man and the woman were handcuffed. They were taken away while a group of people chanted, “Freedom, abusers, freedom!” (Washington Post). Walter Russell Mead looks at how Cuban dictators retained power through the difficult times (WSJ). Socialist Bernie Sanders finally weighed in with this: All people have the right to protest and to live in a democratic society. I call on the Cuban government to respect opposition rights and refrain from violence. It’s also long past time to end the unilateral U.S. embargo on Cuba, which has only hurt, not helped, the Cuban people (Twitter).
