That Rogue Nintendo Switch Featured In A Recent Video Walkthrough Was Actually Stolen
Finders, keepers? Not in the case of the Nintendo Switch. It turns out the the Nintendo Switch GAF user Hiphoptherobot received two weeks early from an “unnamed store” was actually stolen “by employees of a U.S. distributor.”
Nintendo released the statement, “Earlier this week, individuals claimed to prematurely purchase a small number of Nintendo Switch systems from an unspecified retailer. Nintendo has determined these units were stolen in an isolated incident by employees of a U.S. distributor, with one system being illegally resold. The individuals involved have been identified, terminated from their place of employment and are under investigation by local law enforcement authorities on criminal charges.”
GAF user hiphoptherobot stated that he did not realize the Nintendo Switch was stolen until after his unboxing was uploaded to VidMe. At the time, he believed that he was just one of the lucky few who accidentally received an early shipment. Other GAF users speculated that Nintendo has bullied hiphoptherobot into returning the device, however, this appears not to be the case. He remarked, “So while it was unknown to me, once I found out that it had probably been stolen I [didn’t] feel comfortable keeping it”. hiphoptherobot has since returned the Nintendo Switch and taken his video off of VidMe.
hiphoptherobot offered a glimpse of the Nintendo Switch’s software. The video revealed that once a user has selected their language and agreed to the terms of service, they will need to put the device online, connect to their television, and configure the Joy-con controllers.After the initial setup is complete, users can create their account with a pre-selected avatar. Most who viewed the video agreed that the Nintendo Switch's interface was surprisingly clean and modern. The biggest disappointment appears to be that the device only boasts 29.5 GB of internal storage space.
