AMD Ryzen 5 CPUs Appear To Arrive At Retail For Purchase Weeks Before April 11 Launch
AMD is getting ready to flesh out its Ryzen lineup with its new Ryzen 5 series consisting of 4-core and 6-core processor options. These reasonably priced additions to the Ryzen family will arrive on April 11, or at least that is the official launch date that AMD announced last week. However, it appears that some opportunistic buyers were able to make a Ryzen 5 series purchase several weeks early.
Over at Reddit, a user who goes by "marcosmcc" posted a couple pictures of a retail boxed Ryzen 5 1600 processor. He claims that "a fellow Brazilian" shared the pics with him, adding that his friend "recently bought" the part. The pictures are not exactly professional quality photographs—they look like they were taken in less than ideal lighting—but they at least look legitimate.

The Ryzen 5 1600 is one of four Ryzen 5 series processors coming out April 11. It's an intriguing value at $219 (MSRP), as are the rest of the Ryzen 5 series, which range in price from $169 to $249. While they have less cores than the Ryzen 7 series, all of them feature clockspeeds of 3.2GHz or higher.

The 65W Ryzen 5 1400 will ship with a Wraith Stealth cooler, while the Ryzen 5 1500X and 1600, which are also 65W processors, will include a Wraith Spire. Note, however, that these coolers do-not feature built-in RBG light rings. Only the AMD Wraith coolers included with Ryzen 7 processors have the built in lighting. And like the high-end Ryzen 7 1800X, the 95W Ryzen 5 1600X will ship without a bundled cooler.
