Androsians have high hopes that the upcoming 6th Andros Business Outlook will be key to the recovery of the island’s economy, which was devastated by Hurricane Matthew in late 2016. This year’s lineup will include a special workshop by the Department of Inland Revenue and a presentation on the World Trade Organization (WTO).
The Outlook, a product of TCL Group, will be held on September 13, 2018 at the Love At First Sight Hotel & Restaurant, Stafford Creek. Minister of Public Works, Desmond Bannister will speak to the forum’s 2018 theme: “Creating a World-Class Bahamas”. Prescott Smith, owner of Stafford Creek Lodge anticipates that this year’s Outlook will attract the largest attendance to date.
“Andros is the national resource bank of The Bahamas. It’s time that we focus on developing Andros. It is the perfect opportunity for Bahamians to embrace and get a piece of the economy of this country,” said General Manager, Andros Tourism Office, Peter Douglas s. Both Smith and Douglas will present at the Outlook.
Other speakers will include M.P.for North Andros and the Berry Islands, Carlton Bowleg Jr.; Chairman of the Bahamas Agricultural & Industrial Corporation, Michael Foulkes; Karlos Mackey, Principal, Prime Finance & Consulting; Captain Shawn Leadon, and Andros Outdoor Adventures.
Joan Albury, President of TCL Group and founder of the series, noted:
“At the Outlook, Androsians will be able to communicate not only their hardships and frustrations, but also the natural wealth of Andros. In concert with the other speakers, they will discuss avenues to generate income sustainably.”
Peter Douglas said he looks forward to shedding light on the earning potential in the islands natural resources, namely its: pine forests, blue holes, fresh groundwater, mangroves and arable land.
“This year will have the biggest turnout especially because there will be successful local entrepreneurs and Chief Councillors speaking,” Prescott Smith said. “That is very important in terms of the role that the Council plays in supporting the local business community.
“Over the years, the Business Outlook has given us the platform that no other platform has given us to be able to address the real issues in terms of a path forward for ownership and growth in terms of the local economy based on the resources that we have,” Smith said.
The Andros Business Outlook is a member of a seven-island series, geared toward bringing island communities and their local decision makers in one space to discuss concerns and possible opportunities relative to that particular island.
