Vegetarian Gets Mad That Roommate Cooks Meat In Dorm Room, Roommate Feels Bad

It's not easy sharing a living space with another human being in close quarters. The reality is that most of us have specific preferences that everyone else might find different or may not understand at all, but when it comes to non-medical dietary preferences, it's hard to argue that everyone should behave one way to appease one person. Reddit user u/pumpkinthighs took to Reddit's chief morality community r/AmITheAssshole to ask whether they were in the wrong for refusing to cease cooking meat at her vegetarian roommate's request after the roommate witnessed them cooking chicken.

While this situation doesn't sound overly dramatic, it does sound like this college student acted unreasonably in asking her roommate to stop cooking meat whatsoever. The original poster already said they use completely separate dishes and utensils and go out of their way to only cook meat when they think the roommate is out; the vegetarian roommate had no problem with the situation until she witnessed OP cooking chicken.

This roommate is going to have to learn to deal with someone else having a different diet and recognize the OP is trying to be fair. Unless a severe allergy or medical condition is involved, it's not going to end well if you attempt to police what other people eat. Life's far too short as it is.
