It’s astonishing that the executives and athletes of these sports leagues do not understand that insulting at least half of their audience is a terrible business practice. The NHL could have shown true leadership (as they did initially) by rejecting all support of BLM. Instead, they chose to follow the anti-America and pro-thug NBA. NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman had finally made the NHL successful in the United States after decades of irrelevance. However, his refusal to take a stand against BLM may send the NHL back at least a decade.
Dallas Stars CEO Admits to Losing Fans over Black Lives Matter

Story continues below advertisementBrad Alberts, the CEO of the NHL’s Dallas Stars, said that his team is losing a growing number of season ticket holders over the team’s vocal support of Black Lives Matter.
But, losing customers does not appear to be a big enough reason for Alberts to change anything.
“But we/I stand by our organization’s commitment and support our players 100% to express their views,” Alberts said according to the Dallas Morning News.
Alberts added that the loss was both from individual fans and companies that had previously purchased season tickets. But he hastened to add that they had not lost any advertisers.
The NHL went all-in on Black Lives Matter with a league statement on Thursday published after cancelling its games.
“Black and Brown communities continue to face real, painful experiences,” the league said in a statement. “The NHL and NHLPA recognize that much work remains to be done before we can play an appropriate role in a discussion centered on diversity, inclusion and social justice.
“We understand that the tragedies involving Jacob Blake, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and others require us to recognize this moment. We pledge to work to use our sport to influence positive change in society,” the statement continued.
In response to the cancellations, Dallas Stars coach Rick Bowness said he was 100 percent behind the players who wanted to protest.
“We’re all against the social injustice and racial discrimination that’s going on around the world. If our players think that this is the best way that they can support that, then they have our full support and we are proud of the stance that they have taken,” he said according to the paper.
The Stars also became the first NHL team to protest during the national anthem when the players took a knee on August 3.

Since the first fist raised at the Olympics it has been a slow snowball rolling down a hill gathering speed. Now this.
I stopped watching sports. I stopped bothering with sports. Maybe I will watch a championship game, but I don’t even bother watching it to its conclusion. Well paid athletes have decided that their opinions and pet projects must be forced on the spectators. They are paid to play, period. They have the right to their opinions, and can make them known, but on their time; their time as in not at work.
But what is most incredible is how the team owners have bowed to their overpaid employees. These are adults playing teenager’s games and being well paid for it. They are millionaires complaining about lack of opportunity and wealth for the average man, forgetting that in today’s North America opportunity is open to all. Wealth, you get what you work for.
Let the players forfeit the season, even next season. Let them be released as they don’t want to play. Then listen to the new complaints about how their views, not their refusal to play, has destroyed their careers and ended their employment. I’m certain that a Go Fund Me campaign will compensate them. You know, it costs a lot to run a European sports car.

I stopped watching all sports also, and my whole life has basically revolved around sports. I miss it a little bit, but sports went political on me, I didn’t go political first. My Basketball and Hockey teams are still playing(Flyers and Lakers) but I am not watching. Not only have the owners bowed to their overpaid employees, but so have the commissioners, and that’s a disgrace. Goodell and Silver are nothing but puppets, and Manafort isn’t far behind in having no balls.

Apparently, these teams don’t realize that the VAST majority of supporters are white, middle class folks who just want to enjoy a game. They want a respite from the constant political barrage. If these professional leagues and their grossly over-paid players continue to behave as imbeciles, bankruptcy is around the corner. I, for one, will do an ‘end zone dance’ when that happens!

You lose some, and you gain others. It’s beyond my why people get so ruffled about shows in support of not-being racists. Move on. Enjoy your teams knowing the team is made up of those who share your ideologies and those who don’t, just like any other place (work, stores, etc) you support and spend time in. Seems easy enough.
