Creative Inking Blog Hop: Saying Goodbye to Favorites

Blog Hop Prior Blog

Welcome! This month for our blog hop theme we are saying farewell to some of our favorite retiring items…

So I decided to share this lovely card butterfly card with you today. I have a free PDF tutorial for you at the end of this post. The beautiful ornate frame die on this card is new and will be staying (yay!), but the pretty butterfly die, embossing folder, and the cute Label Me Bold greetings stamps are retiring (darn!).  The greetings are "relief image" stamps so the ink (Basic Gray used here) is actually on the rectangle around the word and the word becomes whatever color your card stock is. So I stamped the greeting on white which makes my words white – cool, right?!

Butterfly Beauty Dies0000

The butterfly comes from the awesome Butterfly Beauty die set. This set of dies has two LARGE dies that are an entire series of butterflies which are meant to layer. For this card I used just the large detail die (the other big die in the set is a bit wider and layers under this one so you can have two tone butterflies). You can cut all of the butterflies using a  4 1/4" x 5 1/2" piece of card stock like I've done in this photo, and then cut them apart to use on different projects OR you can cut a small square of card stock and just cut the one you want (and trim off the excess).

In this close up photo you can see that I embossed a piece of vellum with the retiring Beads and Baubles embossing folder. I layered it over Petal Pink card stock which gave the card a very soft, delicate look. At the center of my butterfly, I've added a bit of "bling" with the Champagne Rhinestones.

For the inside of the card I added the sentiment in Basic Gray from the Positive Thoughts stamps set and then die cut a few of the tiny butterflies from the Butterfly Beauty set of dies. The strip of designer series paper is from the Best Dressed Designer paper pack which is retiring. Did you know there is an exclusive Facebook group JUST for Stampin' Up! demonstrators to get ideas? It is managed by Stampin' Up! and is called "Demonstrator Planning Place". Hundred and hundreds of amazing card ideas shared continually! That is where the inspiration for this card came from, a fellow demonstrator, Donna Ross shared a pink and gray card that totally inspired me! Thanks for the idea Donna!

I love the elegant, finished look that you get when you add ribbon to your card – so I added a beautiful bow with the gorgeous Petal Pink 1/4" Metallic Edge ribbon – I'm so, so sad this one is retiring!!0001

Here is a free step by step PDF tutorial for you that includes all the measurements and walks you through how to make this card step by step:
