Just get on with life. Especially the young. 73% of people being hospitalized were 51 and older …
And Cuomo should stop sending stricken seniors to their deaths in nursing homes.
Two-thirds of New Yorkers hospitalized with the coronavirus were admitted from their homes, a “shocking” statistic that defies social-distancing logic, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday.
The curious conclusion was reached in a three-day survey of patients hospitalized with the bug conducted this week, and revealed by Cuomo during his daily press briefing.
“Sixty-six percent of the people were at home, which is shocking to us,” said Cuomo.
The same survey found that 46 percent were unemployed, and 37 percent retired.
“So, that says they’re not working, they’re not traveling,” said Cuomo. “These people were literally at home.”
‘Shocking’: 66% of new coronavirus patients in N.Y. stayed home: Cuomo
By Denis Slattery New York Daily News | May 06, 2020 | 4:37 PM
ALBANY — The majority of recently hospitalized coronavirus patients in New York are people who have followed the precaution of staying home, Gov. Cuomo said Wednesday.
The governor said it was “shocking” that 66% of new coronavirus hospitalizations are people who are either retired or unemployed and not commuting to work on a regular basis.
The statistic comes from a preliminary survey of 113 hospitals, done over three days, that included 1,269 responses as the state seeks more information about how COVID-19 spreads.
According to the data, 18% of new cases came from nursing homes, 4% from assisted-living facilities, 2% from congregate-care facilities, 2% were homeless, less than 1% from prisons and 8% were marked as “other.”
“This is a surprise: Overwhelmingly, the people were at home,” Cuomo said during a briefing on Long Island. “We thought maybe they were taking public transportation, and we’ve taken special precautions on public transportation, but actually no, because these people were literally at home.”
A total of 46% of new cases were unemployed and 37% were retired. Age also played a factor, the data shows that 73% of people being hospitalized were 51 and older, the survey found.
Promote health. Save lives. Serve the vulnerable. Visit who.intMost of the hospitalizations have been concentrated in the city and surrounding suburbs, which have been hit hard by the pandemic, Cuomo added.
There were 232 COVID-19 deaths and about 600 new coronavirus patients admitted into New York hospitals a day earlier, the governor said, indicating that the state’s hospitalization rate is trending downward.
The data is important as the state looks toward reopening parts of the economy as the end of Cuomo’s strict stay-at-home order approaches and other states begin lifting restrictions. The state is working with former Mayor Michael Bloomberg on a tech-heavy approach to tracing cases and tracking the virus.

Russia Overtakes Germany And France After Record Rise In Covid-19 Cases
https://www.theguardian.com/world/live/2020/may/07/coronavirus-live-news-trump-says-covid-19-task-force-to-continue-indefinitely-as-us-china-rift-widens
The number of coronavirus cases in Russia overtook France and Germany on Thursday to become the fifth highest in the world after a record daily rise. The official tally surged to 177,160, meaning Russia now has more registered cases than Germany or France, as the number of new coronavirus cases jumped by 11,231 in the past 24 hours.
Moscow’s mayor said the real figure, not captured by official statistics, is much higher.

My comment: Historically, epidemic statistics have always been distorted by politics. And governments usually under-count the numbers, to hide the crisis. Russia is cruisin’ for a bruisin’, because this is no time to hide the problem.
Cuomo is doing similar things. Hiding from what works and what doesn’t makes things worse.
That’s good to know. Initially, I was so scared at the outset that I went and bought some Seagram’s VO before liquor stores were deemed non-essential.
Perish the thought.
Vodka too. Combined with 99% Isopropyl alcohol, to make 60% alcohol strength, can be used to clean hands. Seagram’s too, but would be smelly and expensive!
It’s a little trick I learned in the Seventh Fleet. We took a mandatory flu shot and got sicker than hell. I drank VO and water into the night and was well enough the next morning to make my 4 a.m. flight. It works.
MUST be VO? That’s a picky virus…
I always get flu symptoms after a flu shot, many people do. I’m always fine the next day too.
1 in 5 American workers has filed for unemployment benefits since mid-March …. 33.5 MILLION Americans have lost their JOBS !!!

If the lockdowns were pointless, I would never know. I never observed them, going about my life business as usual.
Maybe that’s why I am virus-free.
If you have not been tested you do not know
Let’s just say that I’m “asymptomatic”, in the current vernacular.
I wish Pamela would get off this horse. The facts show that Sweden, which she has been touting, is now in trouble with a very high number of cases and deaths relative to countries which have had lock downs, many of which were more strict than USA. Eg, Taiwan, Singapore, New Zealand, Israel. All these have got their epidemics under control. I am amazed that PG would criticise Israel even by implication.
I am as much against the Dems as most but just bashing Dems for the sake of bashing Dems does not wash. Have no Repubs had lock downs then?
All this for me casts doubts on the rest of her reporting
Seoul has had only 2 deaths without all the aggressive lock down drama because they are using Hydroxychloroquine to treat their ill. India has a very low death rate for the same reason. Honduras is now using it to treat everyone. Their death rate will be low. Other countries are even using it prophylactically. All these numbers tell us is that the politicians in these countries are depriving people of access to proper treatment. There is no reason for anyone to stay at home, except out of fear of the politicians, who apparently want a high death tally.
What does stay at home mean? Does it mean they didn’t go into the elevators of their buildings down to the lobby’s out to the store and back?
They could have ‘stayed at home’ and had been visited by family members bringing food. This is no proof of anything.
Their staying home kept them from spreading the virus, which was the point of the lockdown. Is Geller really too obtuse to figure out something that obvious?
That brings up an interesting question, if releasing dangerous criminals from jail is a mitigation effort to slow the spread of the virus, is incarcerating someone for social distancing violations a case of cruel and unusual punishment?
