15 cops ‘raid’ restaurant allegedly over too many customers — a COVID-19 violation — and owner may get year in jail, $5,000 fine

The owner of a Maryland riverside restaurant could face steep fines and a year behind bars after 15 police officers allegedly showed up at his business — Lee’s Landing Dock Bar in Port Deposit — over too many customers, which violates COVID-19 social distancing orders, the Cecil Whig reported.
What are the details?
State troopers arrived at the restaurant on the afternoon of April 19, and Sgt. S. Spayd told the Whig that police found more than 70 motorcycles in the parking lot — plus they had already responded to reports of large numbers of patrons at Lee’s Landing a week prior and issued a warning.
But there would be no second warning.
“Apparently they thought it was OK to serve drinks at the bar and the dock bar while people waited for their orders,” Spayd noted to the paper, adding that customers were lingering in the parking lot and around the establishment.
Greg Shipley, Maryland State Police spokesman, told the Whig that Gov. Larry Hogan’s executive order and state of emergency were violated. In February, Hogan ordered all restaurants that can’t offer takeout or delivery to close, the paper said, adding that the governor also banned gatherings of 10 or more people in one place.
“The investigation indicated the restaurant was selling ‘to go’ food and drink orders, but some of that food and drink was being consumed on the premises,” Shipley added to the Whig. “The crowd dispersed, and those who remained were determined to be waiting for carryout orders.”
The other side of the story
Dave Carey, managing owner Lee’s Landing, told the Whig he was following Hogan’s social distancing and crowd size orders “to the letter of the law” and is upset that 15 uniformed officers from four agencies showed up to his establishment Sunday.
He added to the paper that in addition to state police, deputies from the Cecil County Sheriff’s Deputies, officers for the Maryland Transportation Authority, and Perryville police officers also arrived at Lee’s Landing. He said law enforcement found staffers wearing masks and other protective equipment while taking orders, placing them in tied-shut plastic bags, and handing them to customers who were in measured lines with proper spacing, the Whig reported.
In addition, Carey told the paper there were no more than 10 motorcycles in the parking lot, and customers waited for their orders and then departed.
“What exactly did we do wrong?” Carey asked the Whig. “And who had the authority to take that many resources off the road?”
He added to the paper, “It’s hard enough to get two cops at any other time. If I called for a riot I wouldn’t get that kind of response.”
Hard times
As you might expect, Carey is trying to keep his business afloat while taking in only about $2,000 per day — a fraction of the bar and grill’s typical daily revenue — and being open only three days weekly, the Whig said.
“I’m selling my 32-ounce drinks for $5, beer for $1, and crab cakes for $10 when they are normally $18.99,” he added to the paper. “I’m trying to give great deals to my customers at this tremendous time.”
“To raid a local carry out that is doing everything by the book … is this what the governor wants?” Carey also asked the Whig.

According to a separate story from the outlet, managing owner Carey apparently was not charged — but state police did throw the book at Lee’s Landing owner Charles “Bud” Harry Craven Jr.
Craven, 58, was hit with two violations of Maryland Emergency Management Administration regulations, the Whig said, citing court records.
The most serious misdemeanor charge — punishable by up to one year in jail and a $5,000 fine — alleges that Craven willfully violated an order prohibiting on-premises consumption of food and drink served by bars, restaurants and similar establishments, the paper said.
Charging documents indicated an officer “observed an exterior trash can overflowing with what appeared to be recently disposed of drink and food containers,” the paper said.
The second misdemeanor lacks the “willful” violation distinction and carries a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine, the Whig reported.
Craven was not arrested but instead was issued criminal summonses, the paper said, citing court records.

Capitalism is a crime UNLESS you are a large monopoly like Amazon that leans LEFT. Isn’t it odd how there are no complaints about people working at Amazon? You can work at Walmart and grocery stores and that isn’t a crime. Both are hring more people too. They aren’t keeling over dead with customer contact. You can’t give a cashier payment six feet away.

I think a lot of us feel that way. This has all gotten out of hand. There was never any basis for the lockdown, the economic destruction, or the lives destroyed. But this stuff really gets my blood boiling. Sending out entire swat teams against peaceful citizens doing nothing but grabbing something to eat.

David: Does anyone recall, just about two (2) years ago, at six o”clock AM, the raid by numerous SWAT teams with guns drawn, with over a dozen (12) vehicles, even door busters ramrods, on the sleepy morning at Roger Stone’s house in suburban Wastington(sp), DC? There was no one but he and his wife–as usual–were in bed, fast asleep when their front door was battered open? The Stone’s computers, records and other documents were taken, along with Mr Stone in handcuffs, and sleepwear, by order of a control-freak judge and the orders of a judge-approved warrant!
That situation will soon be happening sooner and–even worse–more frequent than most can even imagine! Those invasions will continue with more frequency, and daily happenings If the radical Progressive politicians keep getting voted into Congressional House and Senate offices. The voters of mostly big city’s urban low information crazies, where the Dumbocratic useful idiots continue to elect more Socialist, Communists and Marxist “lawmakers” which will ensure America’s road to a Venezuelan-style Socialist armageddon! It’s crazy to think otherwise, but the German populace in 1932 and 1933 never saw the destruction and devastationof their country coming within the next several years either KAG/TRUMP2020.

My local grocery store tried to read me the riot act for not wearing a mask, I asked them if it was Halloween. They told me not to come back unless I wear a mask.
Over the last 12 years I figure I’ve spent a bit more than 72 thousand dollars in their store, as of this past Saturday, I’ve spent my last dollar in their store. I wasn’t the only shopper not taking part in their masquerade. I didn’t see the other gentleman being accosted as I was.
Never in our history have we quarantined the healthy. That is the act of a tyrannical dictatorship. We fought the revolutionary war during a small pox epidemic. This entire hysterical exercise I feel is the precursor for something far more sinister than a measly virus.

I was so incensed I wrote Wolf and President Trump. How dare them give money to this organization that is responsible for funding the very terror that killed and maimed many of our military. So much abuse by people who should know better. It makes me want to vomit relentlessly unto death. I have been so consistently ordered to do as store managers order (or else face denial of services- or the police will be called) it makes me ill. When this is over, I’m only shopping at small businesses who care about not losing my business. Too many “essential” businesses have so many millions shopping at their stores, they do not care about losing a customer or fifty. Nor do they care how their customers are treated. They can afford to lose half their customers. They have grown too big to not fail and customer service is irrelevant to them.

Actually, about 95% of the time the police spend is harassing law abiding citizens. Two reasons, they are in little danger doing it and the politicians collect substantial sums of money for minor infractions. It is a lot more profitable for the city, state, whatever level of government to do this than arrest actual criminals.

NOW, I vote Independent, but mostly CONSTITUTIONAL CONSERVATIVE, which btw, doesn’t seem to be ANY OF THOSE POLITICIANS LEFT ANYMORE. Now, We, the People are faced with people who CALL THEMSELVES CONSERVATIVES, like Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney and of course, John McCain, until they get into political office, then their masks come off within 1 or 2 years of their servitude to themselves.
The only thing I can think that is left IF BIDEN WINS, is a WE, THE PEOPLE UPRISING in a MONUMENTAL WAY! I think our U.S. Govt needs a total RESET, throwing them ALL OUT AND STARTING ALL OVER. BUT, I AM SO GLAD TO SAY THAT EVEN IF THE DEMS CHEAT, THEY WILL STILL LOSE.
TRUMP **WILL** BE RE-ELECTED BY A LANDSLIDE AND IT WILL BE THE DEMS FAULT.

I believe the surprise will be in the voting Black and Hispanic communities….the Blacks finally got equal rights after generations of being told where to go and what to do.

You do not have the right to religion . You do not have the right to maintain and bear arms . So on and on and on.
Governor will tell you what you can and can’t and when and if you can or can’t . There is no appeal , there is no defender of liberty or freedom anymore .

It’s not just Blue States … we have problems with Law Enforcement all over the DFW area. About the only difference between Dallas and any Lefty area – is that most of the cops complain about the double standards, stand down orders, and …
the discrimination against officers who try to do their jobs.
When I did pro-bono – I had to send demand letters to Law Enforcement several times to get incident reports out of them. They just didn’t want to do their jobs – both out of laziness and because there was no reward for making politically incorrect decisions …
… and this is still Texas! At least for now.
Good cops try to get into DFW to get experience – and then get out to find safer – and more pro-LEO pastures – in rural Texas.
Most ordinary Americans – the not-yet red-pilled – would be terrified if they knew how messed up Law Enforcement already is – even in their own backyard.

They also brought criminal summons to the business owner, not the guy running the specific establishment. Why? That was a calculated choice.
I think the business owner should SUE whoever in the government ordered this, at the highest level they can.

The question to ask is: how does going full dictator and pissing people off help put a Democrat in the WH? That’s what all this is about, and nothing else.
If people are sick of being forced to stay home, and they’re financially crushed because of it, would they tend to want to go through it again? When round 2 comes along will they ignore warnings?
If a media/internet campaign makes people think that this lockdown was completely unnecessary will they tend to think it is unnecessary when the next bug comes around?
Voting by mail is the only way Democrats can take the WH, so they have to have a valid reason for voting by mail. The current situation didn’t work, so they need a new situation that will work, in key states if not nationally.

I hope there were security cameras inside and outside with video showing that the regulations were followed.
You can put up a sign stating no eating or drinking on the premises but whether people do so is a separate issue. What is the manager supposed to do? Arrest people?
