Here’s my question. Is the Covid-19 coronavirus truly a major pandemic threat, such that we are RIGHT to get upset over China’s all-too-typical muddying of the waters of truth regarding the facts of the outbreak due to the way those cowardly evasions increased the threat of death and serious illness for the whole rest of the world?
OR, as Ms. Geller’s Morning Report newsletter announced in THE VERY SAME ISSUE that sent us this warning about China, an overblown, nonexistent threat to the US, with an incidence and fatality rate no worse than that of the recurrent seasonal flu?
Because the Trump administration is trying to have it BOTH ways. A win-win for THEM, but a lose-lose for US, since the first casualty of this hypocritical, say-whatever-makes-US-look-good approach is the truth.
Which means the Trump team is not that far apart from China in its authoritarian desire to preserve its own power at all costs, including the health of our own people, and to twist the truth to make themselves look good.
Which I find scary as hell. Can we PLEASE let somebody with real expertise in this area — like Fauci — organize a nationwide response, based on science, instead of having to play catch-up to whatever cockamamie idea Trump comes up with at the moment (remember hydroxychloroquine? It’s useless, maybe even harmful for Covid-19 sufferers, new independent studies show) and finding workarounds to Trump’s evasions of responsibility and dumping the whole mess in the laps of state governors? Then, of course, berating the governors for “tyrannical” closedowns when they DO do something about it, in the absence of national standards?
I’m sick of the administration’s hypocrisy. But worse than that, I’m afraid Trump’s inept and cravenly self-protecting “the buck stops elsewhere” response, while he continues to focus only on casting blame on others, and to meddle for political advantage in the desperate attempts of the actual experts to do what is needed, is going to make it more likely that I and those I love will get sick, physically, for real. Make it stop!
