As the American economy collapses due to the Chinese Virus, America’s suicide hotlines are seeing a huge spike in calls. Re-open America, Mr. President! The cure is already worse than the disease.
We’re going to have to trust Americans to reopen the economy in the right places, in smart ways, at the right time.
If we don't, it's going to collapse, and, if the U.S. economy collapses, the world economy collapses.

Feeling the pressures of the pandemic: Suicide hotlines see 800 percent spike in calls
By Fox 17 Nashville, April 14, 2020:
Story continues below advertisementASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Jobs disappearing, businesses shutting down, and separation from friends and family due to COVID-19 have placed an uncomfortable, emotional strain on people. Some describe feelings of unmanageable stress, isolation sadness and thoughts of being trapped or powerless.
With that, Former Congressman Patrick J Kennedy says calls at suicide hotlines have increased by 800 percent as resources shift to COVID-19 relief. The mental health advocate sounded the alarm at a Metro Nashville news conference, raising the question – Will the silent killer of mental illness be our country’s next major crisis?
“The tragedy of COVID is it exacerbates this already prevalent mental health and addiction crisis. No one doubts that mental health and addiction is real,” Kennedy commented. “Every single American has been faced with a mental health issue in this COVID crisis, themselves, not just a family member, but themselves.”
His short answer: yes. Kennedy believes mental illness and addiction crises are right underneath the COVID-19 emergency, not waiting to creep out.
“We ought to be concerned about people dying. Whether they’re dying of the COVID or whether they’re dying of overdose, it’s still a death and there’s not one that’s worse than the other because both deaths rob families and a loved one, and they ought to be paid attention to,” Kennedy said.

Just take one aspect. The many tens of thousands of recovering addicts who cannot attend their AA and similar meetings and are thrown back into isolation and despair. I ASSURE you the death total of just this group will be startling after a few more weeks of ‘lockdown’.
Yes, and drug addiction is a co-morbidity for this disease. Anything that compromises health status, especially lung or heart, adds vulnerability.
Strangely it seem heart more than lung. Don’t ask me why.
Looked at this..answer below.
Well the main cause of death is still ‘viral pneumonia’. Heart and bowel are also affected because Covid-19 replicates abundantly there. And of course, with hypoxia from pneumonia, ischemia happens everywhere, causing multiple organ failure.
So it is really potluck to a degree as the heart just provides a quick coup de grace on what could otherwise be a painfully slow death (I saw the child breathing 60/min he would have had to die of exhaustion. Nasty). Tell me about the bowel involvement as I had not heard of that although in a viraemia it is everywhere. Obstruction? Perforation? Haemorrhage? Apologies but I have not looked at any real sites on the virus and am just curious.
Published autopsies of Covid-19 patients have found high concentrations of the virus in heart and bowel [and of course lung]. Furthermore, the patient’s stool contains Covid-19, and the virus can actually exit from an uncovered toilet as ‘fecal spray’. About 20% of serious Covid-19 patients give diarrhea as a symptom. Notice also that Covid-19 was found intact, as it is now, in bat feces. So bats also carry it in their bowels. Some surveillance in New England has been done by tracking Covid-19 in sewage samples, and it looks like a promising method. Icky, but promising.
I have not seen any direct proof of obstruction, perforation, or hemorrhage. However, some Covid-19 patients DO vomit blood, in substantial quantities. It is not just bloody sputum.
And of course, one’s mind immediately leaps to the high toilet paper consumption going on. Does this indicate loose stool in the 90% of those who are infected, but do not present for treatment? Or is it just panic buying? My hunch is that it is both.
Increased toilet paper consumption can often mean that people are using more to cover toilet seats (anyone who has used a public toilet knows that trick) as much as using it to clean themselves. Of course when far from home we used such as tissues, to clean our pots, pans and plates when water was scarce and to mop up blood and other unpleasant fluids. Had we run out of toilet paper then we would have been in a right mess.
Virus in the stool is not a real problem except for others and remembering some of the toilets I have seen on this planet(plus the common desire of muslims to put their faeces in water or food) that is probably nearing respiratory spread in the non west.
I am curious about the haematemesis as I wondered if this virus could have a haemorrhagic effect if it managed to attack the bone marrow. If it can attack T Cells it may be able to attack more primitive cells there and drop the platelet count. Any evidence for liver damage as that could be a mechanism also although stress/vomiting can cause bleeding?
Michelle [the warrior]: RE the haematemesis, I don’t know what causes it, or even where the blood comes from. [Maybe blood in the lungs is entering the stomach?] Images of it show bright red vomit with no real lumps or clots visible. There does seem to be a hemorrhagic effect, in some Civid-19 patients, sometimes seen in bleeding from nose, mouth or eyes. But that’s all I know there. I have not seen mention of bone marrow involvement. The evidence of T cell problems seems preliminary. I don’t know about platelet count.
But yes, there is evidence of liver damage, and some of that may persist after recovery. Presumably, that damage is different from the damage one would expect from the cytokine cascade and sepsis that leads to multiple organ failure. Sorry if that’s sketchy.
The mechanism of pulmonary death from ARDS is not as our late friend posted. All lower respiratory viruses stop cilial motion and fluid accumulates in the lungs as a result. CV19 does this of course. But it also attacks the cells that target it: killer T cells and neutrophils and once inside both (and I think that this is where the inserted HIV RNA strands come into it) take it over and make frenzied attacks on all host cells but especially those lining the lungs. This is how HIV killed people(different organs) and is a forced auto-immune disaster as it can totally destroy the lungs permanently. WRT the lung damage any other problem will just be exacerbated by the stress load and although you might die from the other problems directly, it is CV19 who is the reason.
Hey Michelle, you might find this interesting. Healio is a pretty good health site, much better than the MSM for Covid-19.
“Patients with COVID-19 may experience GI symptoms, possible fecal-oral transmission”
‘2019-nCoV might lead to direct damage of intrahepatic bile ducts’
https://www.healio.com/gastroenterology/inflammatory-bowel-disease/news/online/%7B991f3ae0-6f4d-4211-93c6-b53bba5daf75%7D/patients-with-covid-19-may-experience-gi-symptoms-possible-fecal-oral-transmission
Thank you! Interesting that as I thought it might be possible as the auto-immune response could in theory attack every or any system.
Yes, and Statnews.com is also a good medical site for Covid-19 info. And if you ‘unprivate’ your Disqus home page I can send you stuff there.
Thank you but “no” WRT the latter as I post across many varied boards(although not often now) and they tell too much about me.
However thank you for those sites as I no longer keep up with medical news and for good reasons.
Hey Michele, I may be overdoing my interest in this topic, but here I go again:
“Cells most vulnerable to coronavirus are in lungs, nose, intestines: study”
https://www.foxnews.com/health/most-vulnerable-cells-coronavirus-lungs-nose-intestines
They are using extremely loose standards for cause of death to increase the Chinese Virus death rate. Now everything has “co-morbidity” for this virus.
Yes and no. All epidemics do a bad job of estimating mortality. And this is the best job ever done to fight an epidemic. For example we will eventually do death certificates online, to standardize the methods across the country. Relevant medical info can be attachments. RE the detail of the current counts, remember that over-counting and under-counting are occurring simultaneously. We have years to straighten those data out.
Also remember that this epidemic is not just about current mortality statistics. The BIG thing is that we do not know what will happen next, no one does. It COULD go to 10 million mortalities, and last 3 years, and then the CDC would just say, “Oh. Yeah. Sorry.”
Our job is to fight it now, with strong collective efforts, to get the mortalities as low a possible. And if mortalities are zero, then we won! We won’t lose if that happens.
How is data to be corrected when no testing is required? Pursuant to CDC guidance, no testing to verify if the deceased was even infected with Covid-19. Are they going to dig up bodies and cremains to test a year from now?
Maybe. Tissue samples can be stored and analyzed later. And those guidelines will change, when saliva and blood antibody testing is ubiquitous. It will still be far from perfect. The best I can say is that the system must bootstrap itself to be ready for the next inevitable epidemic. Enough is enough.
NEW TOPIC: When Birx gave her talk today, she showed a graph with several years of flu season infection counts, and I thought of your interests. It appears at 27:06 on the video of Trump’s talk today:
http://b1ff5939f6.nxcli.net/2020/04/watch-live-president-trump-major-news-conference-at-6-pm-to-announce-guidelines-for-opening-up-america-again.html/
It’s not a mortality count, just people who went to ERs because of flu-like symptoms. This 2019-2020 season is in the high normal range. Not way above normal, so Covid-19 plus flus are still just high normal for symptoms. Also, the H1N1 swine flu 2009 epidemic was a dog, below normal for ER visits.
The question is, are they keeping tissue samples that can later adjust the numbers, up or down? If it’s down, will Medicare be reimbursed?
ER visits, when in some locales, that is the only way one can gain entry into a hospital …. what does that number truly represent?
I become more and more confused as each day passes. I’m to the point of calling myself, “Vinnie Barbarino”.
Good, confusion is a very good sign. You are morphing smoothly into an epidemiologist.
I cannot pronounce that, much less spell it correctly.
OK, call it ‘epi’
Is the “e” long or short. Is the “p” soft or hard. Is the “I”‘ pronounced short, long, or as a long “e” sound?
ep as in epidemic, and the i is like eee!
I believe that I have it. Short “e”, hard “p” and the long e sound for the “i”.
Yes, perfect.
Breaking: Smithfield, the pork producer, is Chinese owned!
“Pork Plant at Center of South Dakota’s Virus Outbreak Had Visit From CCP-Tied Owners”
https://www.theepochtimes.com/pork-plant-at-center-of-south-dakotas-virus-outbreak-had-visit-from-ccp-tied-owners_3313529.html
In S. Dakota, the Chinese owners did everything they could to exacerbate the outbreak. They kept sick employees at work, denied the problems, etc. Hundreds got sick with Covid-19, and now S. Dakota has an epidemic.
——————
So was the Mexican H1N1 swine flu 2009 pandemic really from China? It started at Smithfield swine stockyards in Mexico.
That’s not really breaking news. China made that purchase in 2013. I believe Smithfield sold for Seven Billion U.S. Yankee Greenback Dollars, with four billion of it outright cash. Seven years ago is hardly “breaking” news.
On the Mexican Swine Flu, that was before any Chinese interest in the purchase. 2013 minus 2009 equals four years.
Seriously … supposedly …. a large number of the Mexican employees were caught, on security video footage, “mounting” sows. That’s the theory of how it all started. Of course, that might be a vicious rumor started by Cargill.
If you’re interested in why beef and pork production (raising, not slaughter) are located in Mexico and Canada, so very close to the U.S. border … that’s a fascinating conversation that can be had. To protect the health of the American citizenry .. we need TWO walls. One north and one south.
Thanks for that. Yes, China had no control over Smithfield in 2009. But of course, there still remains evidence that China is deliberately spreading Covid-19 in the USA:
1. Once the Covid-19 virus left the lab, the ChiComs let the virus spread rapidly in Wuhan, creating a pool of infected cases. After that they let the infected people flee to other countries: “China moved quickly to shut down travel domestically from Wuhan to the rest of China, but did not stop international flights from Wuhan.”
2. Chinese visitors to S. Dakota started an outbreak there
In S. Dakota, the Chinese owners did everything they could to exacerbate the outbreak. They kept sick employees at work, denied the problems, etc. Hundreds got sick with Covid-19, and now S. Dakota has an epidemic.

Supposedly, that’s up to today’s date. This is from the South Dakota website: https://doh.sd.gov/news/Coronavirus.as
I struggle to consider 1411 cases and 7 deaths as an “epidemic”.
That number will double in a week, and then double again, etc.
epidemic n.
1. An outbreak of a contagious disease that spreads rapidly and widely.
– online dictionary
That could readily happen, IF they follow CDC “guidance” where the deceased doesn’t even have to be tested to determine if they were infected with Covi-19.
Hey Marge … How many people died today? Well, if they’re over sixty-five and on Medicare … we get a substantial “spiff”. And, don’t forget … if they were uninsured, the federal government will pay the full cost, PLUS …
So, even ol’ Joe over there, that was hit by the bus …. He’s a victim of Covid-19. Hayull, Marge .. put Covid-19 on ALL of ’em.
By the way, do you think my summary of Confucianism was accurate?
Before I answer that, have you read Mencius?
no. Here is my summary:
Confucius wasn’t very metaphysical. He didn’t concentrate on a pantheon, or much detail about gods. His spirituality focused on a smooth, graceful, and harmonious life, full of virtue and good intentions. Dao and Buddhism are ascetic religions, full of worldly renunciation, and sacrifice. Most Chinese friends I’ve had were implicitly Confucian. No asceticism. They did Buddhist rituals and stuff, but their day-to-day life focused on a smooth, graceful, and harmonious life, full of virtue and good intentions. Of course they never achieved that, but westerners have trouble with the 10 commandments too.
I could take exception with much of that. But, not getting into hundreds of pages of back-and-forth, have you read The Three Li?
I don’t think so.
Hard to understand Confucius without reading and being familiar with his major works.
Of the Three Li, good to start at …. The Book of Rites.
This reminds me of a great line from Benny Hill:
All your comedy consists of innuendo!
I always though innuendo was an Italian suppository!
When I read that the lowest mortality rates in China, of those infected, were tobacco smokers. Time to kick it up from three packs a day … to four.
No silly. The studies of serious cases and mortalities in China found that smokers were over-represented in the mortalities. About 50% of Chinese men smoke.
I just read two articles, today, that state the opposite. I’ll try and find them and give you the links.
Time to light up another 555.
In Californication I recently saw, at a stoplight, the driver of a car taking a huge bong hit and then promptly coughing her lungs out. I laughed so hard I thought I was going to die. Considering marijuana is legal though, maybe she wasn’t committing a crime?
I don’t know if this is true or not … just another legend that I read on the internet. Hey … if I read it on the internet it has to be true, right? Here she goes …
At outdoor concerts, in Colorado, it is illegal to smoke tobacco. However, it is legal to smoke marijuana. One person, surrounded by people smoking marijuana, lit up a Marlboro Light (reason enough to arrest someone with such plebeian taste), but security came and removed the Marlboro smoker and didn’t even bat an eye at all of the marijuana smoke around him.
Hey, I read it on the internet … It must be true.
?Cigarette smoking replaces the single layer columnar epithelial cells with stratified squamous cells and supposedly the latter are not as good as the former as hosts for the virus. This means that while you will still have that dreadful cough (only way now to get up the sputum as there are no cilia left) you are less likely to die of CV19????
I cannot agree with that I actually read the opposite and would guess that while they can do less damage (as there are far more cells in the stratification ) you still have pretty lousy lungs at the start. It takes near 20-30 years to replace the SSE with the original columnar epithelia cells if you cease smoking.
Using Pennsylvania’s language, “life sustaining businesses” are the only ones able to remain open. Of course, liquor stores and marijuana emporiums remain open. Therefore, they must be “life sustaining businesses”.
In Californication the herb is life bro.
I have given up on cooler heads prevailing, Trump is trusting people who want him defeated in the election. 30 MILLION will be unemployed, 7 million private business are going out of business, and never coming back. It is too late already, and for political short term gains, our young will be paying for generations. How many Federal, State, and City government workers have lost THEIR jobs? Thats what I thought. And bigger government means more jobs for their families, cronies, and donors. To hell with the common man, they are expendable.
And like after 9-11, how many “temporary changes for your safety” do you think will become permanent ?
No new laws brought in will be repealed. This is an old trick. The laws are simply ignored or held in abeyance until the elite decide that they want to show us who is boss and then they reimpose them upon us and they can do so for no reason as the laws are already there. It is potentially a freedom/liberty disaster and well engineered by the globalist elite. Thinking this way makes me wonder totally about its :”accidental” nature.
There was a line from “Brother” Dave Gardner (a long-deceased Southern comic who in the early ’60’s had a following among Northern audiences) that deals with your last part:
“See, I don’t go along with ‘accidents’, I think it’s premeditated carelessness.”
Combine these elites with docile, servile, supine sheep who won’t lift a finger to assert themselves and, indeed, you have disaster in the making for liberty and freedom.
While I agree that it is a disaster, blaming Trump for it and the decisions made is the act of a fool. But then we are talking about people who believe the MSM. No wonder Pelosi looks so smug.
As far as gummint employees … I was having a conversation with someone earlier today. We were talking about our $1200.00 bribes. Neither of us had gotten one, however, one of his neighbors received theirs on Monday. That neighbor worked for the USPS. NO layoffs … but the bribes received. We wondered if there would be any money left after the government employees were bribed first.
Suicide rates during WWII actually declined. This is a very different kind of war. Science Fiction has focused on virulent epidemics for a reason. It’s very scary to have thousands of mortalities in one week, and then have them double the next week. The Yellow Fever epidemic in Philadelphia, 1793, was more terrifying than things are right now. Yellow Fever is spread by mosquito bites, and no one knew that.
Yes when bombs are dropping, bullets flying and the casualty lists come out every day, you gain a further appreciation of the gift of life.
Yes, in WWII, everyone had a job, they worked long shifts, and they had a distinct purpose in life: to beat the enemy.
Trump has run into an area where his business expertise is of no help and hence is totally dependent upon his advisors. If he realized that medicos have been infiltrated and almost totally controlled by the Left over the last 20 years he would have been prepared but he cannot know everything.
I know a doctor who disagreed with a certain official procedure and did it his way with no problems unlike others who followed state departmental advice. His lawyer told him that they could not protect him if anyone sued him if he did not follow official guidelines. He had to revert to doing what he was told much to his disgust as he would have lost everything including his home and business. He was later told that such a case was just about to be prepared by the department to teach him a lesson. He knew of no such possible problems that could justify this but was told that such could always be found. THAT is what the Left have brought to health and it stinks of communism.
As for suicides. It is hard to have any sympathy once you have been close to death a couple of times yourself and realize just how precious and how temporary anyway, life really is.
Michelle = Micheal = St. Micheal, the avenging warrior, from the Book of Daniel.
Boy are you barking up the wrong tree w/this reference.
Daniel lived in a tree? Not really:
Daniel 12:1
“At that time Michael, the archangel who stands guard over your nation, will arise. Then there will be a time of anguish greater than any since nations first came into existence. But at that time every one of your people whose name is written in the book will be rescued.”
And he is nowhere else mentioned in the Old or New Testaments.
Why? Just because I refuse to blame atheism for the crimes of communism, as do you
and I do not trumpet my religious beliefs nor let them dictate to me in my posts.
I actually thought it was meant to be facetious and found it funny.
You absolve atheism for the (continuing) crimes of Communism.
Duplicate post.
A debate with you is like talking to a parrot. No absolution is necessary as atheism is NOT the cause.
Atheism is a belief structure and therefore can be classified with and as a religion I see no evidence, other than your rants which are scarcely proof, that atheism supports any of the evils of communism.
We all know that you hate atheists for the perceived injuries you claim to have suffered, but to blame them constantly by repeated boring, sneering, comments directed at me constantly for the communist inspired ethics-less behaviour of the Left including the gender and LGTB etc. lunacy is illogical and incorrect. One day you will work out(I so hope) the difference between religion and politics but I must have made 20+ posts in trying to help you, so I doubt it.
The Scotsman fallacy in operation:
Many communists are atheists;
Communists kill people and commit crimes;
Ergo(in your “logic”) atheists kill and commit crimes. This is false
Let me try another one:
Muslims kill people for not being muslims.
Muslims do so upon the orders of islam
Ergo Islam kills people for not being muslims. This is true.
Having posted that can you now put it to bed and please stop your constant sniping?
WRT the original point above(the St Michael one) how could you possibly know or not know what kind of a person I am or what I have done or not done and whether or not I do or do not deserve it? Disagreeing with you and others is not a sin although it is often perceived as crime by some here
I called the Suicide Hot Line in Minnesota. It was answered by a Middle Eastern Woman who sounded like Omar.
When I told her I was suicidal, she asked me if I knew how to drive a truck
That is soo bad and sooo old. You should be ashamed of yourself : )
Annnnnnnnd Trump was right again.
Muslum suicide hotline: Can you drive a truck?
