Respected scientific journal issues apology for associating coronavirus with China over racism fears

A British scientific journal has apologized to China for associating the coronavirus with the country despite scientific consensus that the virus originated there.
Story continues below advertisementAn article published Tuesday night by Nature apologized for the “error on our part” and said the publication is taking responsibility for linking the coronavirus to China.
“It’s clear that since the outbreak was first reported, people of Asian descent around the world have been subjected to racist attacks, with untold human costs — for example, on their health and livelihoods,” the article read.
Washington Post contributing columnist Isaac Stone Fish responded to the news on Twitter, “This is unbelievable. @nature, one of the most respected scientific publications, apologizes to China for erroneously ‘associating the virus with Wuhan and with China.’ The virus started in China. That is a fact. Shameful.”
A follow-up tweet read, “I appreciate that Nature wants to reduce stigmas against Asian people, and I don’t support calling it the Wuhan Virus. But pretending that the disease didn’t start in China — or pretending that the Party’s early reaction didn’t help spread it — is deeply problematic.”
President Trump and others were widely criticized for pointing out that the virus originated in China, which is undisputed by experts. Critics argue that calling attention to that fact is in and of itself racist.
News outlets, including the Washington Post, the Guardian, and the New York Times, have published several articles over the last few months linking racial tension to the virus outbreak.
Communication service Grammarly recently announced its program will automatically change “Chinese Virus” or “Wuhan Virus” to “COVID-19” due to fears of racism.

Demand all you like, Congress will never pass a law for term limits – and why should they, when they can sit and RULE for as long as their stupid constituents keep voting for them. The ONLY way to have term limits is by having an Article V Convention of States and that requires 36 states to be involved with it. At this point, only 12 are signed on.

Matthew, I’m an Army vet and a strong patriot. I’ve fought all my life for term limits, but there is NOTHING We The People can do to force Congress into passing a bill that LIMITS them! They simply won’t do that and anyone thinking they can force it, need to think again. Instead, work on helping form the Article V Convention of States, because that is the ONLY way to get term limits!! And time is running out!

How long is one term for a congress member?
On the other side of the Congress are the House of Representatives members. A U.S. House of Representatives term is two years, after which they can run for reelection in their home state. The member of the house needs to start to seek reelection within those two years.

Senate term is 6 years and THEY have to be reelected as well. That does limit their term, but nothing keeps them from being reelected 20 times!

Nature as one of the preeminent peer reviewed scientific journals, has no business apologizing for speaking the truth by calling a spade a spade.
The Spaniards got a bad rap n 1918, when the flue outbreak was dubbed The Spanish Flu of 1918, even though it originated in the United States. Spain was neutral in WWI, and therefore accurately reported their flu deaths. This resulted in very high reported numbers, unlike those of the US, France and Germany, who severely underreported the problem. Hence the moniker of Spanish Flu stuck.
Setting aside the geographic origins of the Wuhan Virus, solid evidence points towards the manufacture of the virus by a Chinese virology laboratory situated on the outskirts of Wuhan, and not by bat meat sold in the market. They took a bat corona virus, which is non-infective to humans, spliced RNA sequences from the HIV virus, and changed certain protein sequences in the “spike” proteins (the spikes on the surface of the virus) so that the virus could invade human cells. Basically, the Chinese engineered this bioweapon, and it got out of the lab somehow.
This viral engineering is the subject of published papers by researchers in the Wuhan laboratory dating back a few years, one of which, I do believe was published in Nature. The virology lab was then completely taken over by the Chinese military when the coronavirus started spreading, and its webpage has since been scrubbed of any references to the research.
Calling this virus anything but the Wuhan or Chinese virus is acting part and parcel to the coverup of the Chinese government of their illegal bioweapons research. The creation of this virus was deliberate, although its release at the present time, appears to have been accidental.

The Spanish Flu was never demonsrated to have come from the U.S. That was probably a Chinese virus that spread to Europe and then the U.S.

Actually it was. patient one was located on a Kansas farm and he was then drafted into the army and became of all things a cook dishing out food to the troops! It was reported to senior officers but not taken seriously, It was 1918 after all. Viruses were almost unknown to medicine. Then as USA was sending thousands of troops to Europe in WW1, it was take there

Probably no one knows about patient one, but there were a lot of sick people reported in Haskell, Co, Kansas at the time, and the three people from there going to camp Funston, Ft, Riley, Ks, and probably someone carried the flu to the military post. A good report of it in the Smithsonian.

I have to agree that calling this virus the WuFlu or ChicomFlu or Chinese Flu is inappropriate. The correct term for this VIRUS originating out of China should be called the CCPFlu or CCP Virus!!!!!!!!!!!

This is off topic, regarding China and the kung-flu, but I was somewhat taken aback when it was brought to my attention.
Earlier this morning, I opened an email from an acquaintance that I haven’t spoken to for a few years.
It had a chart overlay and side charts for other years.
Within the first overlay, it showed a “death count” for seasonal influenza and pneumonia.
Lo and behold, the deaths from the seasonal flu and pneumonia, even bacterial pneumonia, has dropped to ZERO. Yup, we’ve really whupped those two. I was shocked that, in some years, the death count from those two were relatively high this time of year. Yet, lo and behold, modern “medicine” has really gotten them under control …. We’re losing NO one, in a time when we normally are seeing thousands of deaths.
I’m not a research type of a guy, but he claimed that these figures were all from the CDC. I haven’t verified it … but, it does sound plausible.
And, we’re supposed to trust “modern medicine”?

I read that 21 million mobile users have disappeared since outbreak of Wuhan Flu in China as quoted by Bloomberg. Extent of Chinese Communists lies knows no bounds.China is just North Korea with money. I truly hope you’re right, but unfortunately, China owns more farmland in the midwest than American citizens own. Nobody seems to be focusing on THAT!! The U.S. needs to nationalize EVERYTHING China owns in this country, which is a MASSIVE amount of businesses, and then sell those to American citizens!

The monstrous murders and gigantic economic damages caused by Chinese biological warfare exceed several times the value of the property bought by China.
Expropriation can undoubtedly be just one of the reparations and consequences to stop, punish and wipe out the murderous Chinese government.
The COVID-19 is artificially created in Chinese laboratories, and on purpose used as a weapon of war by the Chinese government.
It can never be wiped out again!
And the United States is just one of the over 100 hardest hit countries!

I agree, and the liberals are apologizing to China for it having been called a Chinese Virus, which it IS. And when it was first released in Wuhan, 5 MILLION Chinese people were told they couldn’t go to any other Chinese city, but they COULD go to ANY other city in the whole world. They were infected by it and they scattered all over the world. It is nothing short of a WEAPON used on every country for Chinese control of the world. EVERY country should refuse to do ANY business with the ChiComs!

This is a bizarre news release from Nature journal, which has been very rigorous in what it publishes, however it appears to be taking a political correctness approach here not seen since the 19th century when Charles Darwin published his book concerning the origin of the species.
Science in China is politicized with so called scientific Marxism, but seeing scientific denial from Nature which is published in England is an attack on the scientific community which is practically unprecedented.
It likely has to do with the Chinese demanding that scientific nomenclature not be followed when the Covid-19 virus was first discovered.
Ordinarily in scientific nomenclature is adhered too, the site of origin of the virus be referred to, which in this case would have been referred to as the Wuhan virus, however it was named SARS-nCov-19 or novel SARS virus and then due to Chinese pressure on the scientific organization charged with naming viruses, the name was changed to Covid-19.
It may not make a lot of difference in the Western scientific community, but it makes enormous difference to the Chinese people who live under a repressive Communist regime which filters all news and even scientific information so that the Chinese people are only permitted propagandize information from the Chinese Communist Party, which likely is the reason the Chinese Communists were recently giving speeches that the Covid-19 was brought to Wuhan by the US Army.
This is equivalent to the Chinese Communists Party censoring any information about the Tiananmen Square Massacre.
I believe the virus should be named for Dr Li Wenliang, the doctor who first noted the “mysterious illness”, and sent a warning to other doctors and medical students. He was summoned by the local police, apparently forces to sign a confession that he had done something unlawful, but then he himself died of the illness, and other doctors with him. He was a whistle-blower and was punished by the Chinese Communist party. The Chinese Communist party is Maoist, and regards all who oppose it as expendable and is, like Mao was himself, ruthless.

Nature USED to be respected. However, when they adopted political advocacy and strayed from Science, they have lost their credibility. I am one of many who cancelled their subscription due to the Nature conversion from Science to Political Propaganda.
C&E News from the American Chemical Society is another example of Science being convoluted into politics. This appears to be the case for virtually evey “scientific journal”. It is driven by the source of “research” funding being the government.

Nature apologizing sounds like the same thing as happened to Dr.Li Wemliang, who warned other doctors in Wuhan that there was a mysterious illness like SARS and to be careful.
Then the local police apparently visited him and he had to sign an apology that he violated the law. Him and about ten other doctors.
Then he got the illness himself and died, causing outrage against the Communist regime by the local populace, who saw Dr. Li as a whistleblower and was trying to save people’s lives.
There should be the same outrage against Nature Journal for bowing to the demands of the Chinese Communist Party to relieve the Chinese Communist Party of any responsibility for igniting the pandemic by suppressing information about it, unnecessarily exposing crowds of people to the virus, and even destroying laboratory specimens and laboratory reports about it. No one blames the Chinese People of China, but rather the Chinese Communist Party with it’s dictatorial policies and suppressing information and widespread use of propaganda.

Science and academia has been taken over by liberals and corrupted till people seeking the truth are having to research on the internet which is even more laden with BS. Whenever i see that some “study” has been done doubts arise in my mind. A lot of it started with climate studies, first we were doomed to freeze, then the oceans were go rise because the ice caps were going to melt. Both were just scare mongering.

Yup, a way to control the masses, like this virus, that isn’t any more awful than the swine flu was, less in fact. We were told all the hospitals would be overwhelmed so government set up a huge one in a sports center in NYC, which is now being unassembled. Same with Franklin Graham who set up a field hospital in Central Park for naught. We were LIED to! Our economy has been shut down, we locked in our homes, people are being given huge tickets for meeting in their church PARKING LOTS and staying inside their cars! This country will NEVER heal from what has been done to it by all the panic BS!! And hospitals are almost empty! The hospital ship in NYC has all of 3 patients. The one in California has 7 patients. This so called “pandemic” DID kill people, but so does the flu every year! The country was whipped into fear by the constant coverage on TV on every channel! I tried to watch a home shopping channel, and they were yammering about it too, so I shut off the TV and decided to just READ. I don’t know about you, but I’m OUTRAGED about what has happened to this country because of the stinking liberals!
