Mayor Bill de Blasio said on Friday that people ‘need to be ready’ for New York staying in lockdown until the end of May as he gave the grave prediction that at least half of the city would become infected by coronavirus.
Speaking on Good Morning America as the US topped the world’s COVID-19 hotspots with 86,000 infections, de Blasio was asked if the city would stay shuttered ‘through May’.
He answered: ‘I think we need to be ready for that,’ then went on to slam President Trump’s Easter deadline to reopen the country as something that gave ‘false hope’ to the nation.
De Blasio also warned that ‘more than half’ of New York City – which has a population of 8.6million – would become infected with the virus at any one time.

He said the majority, 80 percent, would suffer flu like symptoms but that some would die.
‘Here’s the reality in NYC, people we have to be real honest about where this is going.
‘Unfortunately we think it’s going to go through April and in to May. It’s just a blunt reality.
‘Over half of people in this city will ultimately be infected.
‘Thank god for 80 percent, that will be very little impact in truth – it’s like having cold or flu and you get through it in seven to 10 days.
‘But for 20 percent of the people infected, it’s going to be tough and for some of them, of course it’s going to be fatal,’ he said.

In New York City alone, 365 people have died and there are more than 23,000 cases.
De Blasio said the biggest challenge the city is facing is the lack of ventilators in the hospital system.
He has received 2,500 from the federal government but needs 15,000 to combat the onslaught of patients yet to come into hospitals.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has already said that the state needs 30,000.
President Trump undermined that number on Thursday night and suggested he was exaggerating it.
De Blasio said the president was ‘not looking at the facts’.
‘We need help now. When the president says the state of New York doesn’t need 30,000 ventilators, he’s not looking at the facts.
‘A ventilator means someone lives or dies. If they get the ventilator in time they can come through but if they don’t, they’re not going to make it,’ he said.

The Governor of Florida should declare that NO New Yorkers are permitted to visit. And because NY refuses to enforce citizen requirements for drivers licenses, the are not an acceptable form of ID.
The only thing this native Floridian wants to see is NY (and NJ) plates on northbound vehicles.

Probably a stupid question, but I’m not known for being the sharpest machete in the shed …
If 80% of the populace is to be infected, what good have any, and all, “lockdowns”, mandatory government ordered business closures, etc., done?
So everybody is forced to stay at home, yet there is the “given” that 80% shall (no question about it) get infected …. Why the government mandated closures?
With the closures, it’s 80%, but without them it could be 85%(?) ….. Is that the reason?
Would someone please explain this to a simple minded country boy?

Assuming that 80% get the CCP Virus,a big assumption,then it would be best if they exhibited symptoms over a period of several months rather than all at once which would overwhelm medical facilities.

The REAL reason they are shutting down is because New York is BANKRUPT! They have misspent and mismanaged their budget so they need to milk this for all it is worth. They see this as a golden opportunity to be bailed out by the federal government!

But… But… But NYC and NY are well to do. Sanctuary, no minor crime going punished, free theatre and baseball tickets to entice criminals to appear in court, sheltering and paying for illegals, and so on.
de Blasio wants federal money. Go to the governor. The governor wants federal money, he already taxes everyone to the hilt as a good liberal “progressive” does. Maybe if the two weren’t giving so much money to illegals, schooling them essentially for free, giving them meals and helping them with shelter, there would be more money for New Yorkers – state and city.

For the businesses that are closed down are their property taxes suspended while they’re closed down? Because how are they expected to pay their property taxes if they’re not generating profits? Magic?

Until further notice, NO evictions. But, when querying the local taxing authority(s), there will be no waiver of property taxes. Already, property taxes take up to half of a year’s rent. It’s the United States way, protect the deadbeats and punish the productive.

Have evictions for non-payment of rent been suspended in Ohio too? In Californication it’s insane, the no evictions for non-payment of rent is across the board and NOT subject to any sort of oversight whatsoever. Anyone who doesn’t want to pay rent doesn’t have to because there’s no investigation into whether or not they’re lying about being unable to pay rent. I thought I lived in a republic, not a dictatorship. I don’t even understand how cuck-holsters like Garcetti (mayor of Los Angeles) and Newsome (gubernator of Californication) even get the authority to make edicts like these. Don’t they have to declare martial law FIRST?

De Blasio’s objective is to destroy the economy not only of New York City but also of the entire US. The goal is not the health and welfare of NYC residents but to push his agenda of eliminating Trump and Trump supporters and pushing the nation towards socialism and that can best be facilitated,in his mind at least, by collapsing the economy.
