Trump tears into media at coronavirus briefing: They want economy to stay closed, ‘would like to see me do poorly in the election’

President Trump doubled down Wednesday on his assertion that the media wants to keep the country closed in order to prevent his reelection during his daily coronavirus briefing at the White House.
After Trump had earlier slammed the “LameStream Media” on Twitter, CBS News correspondent Paula Reid asked the president if his recently announced goal of reopening the economy by Easter was solely a political strategy.
“You’ve tweeted earlier linking the closing of the country to your election success in November. Is this Easter timeline based on your political interests?” Reid asked.
“What do you mean it’s about my election success? No,” Trump responded.
“You said that the media wants the country to remain [closed] to hurt your odds of being reelected,” Reid continued.
“No, the media would like to see me do poorly in the election,” Trump said.
The CBS News reporter grilled the president. saying lawmakers and economists have warned that opening the economy by Easter “is not a good idea.” But Trump pushed back.

“Just so that you understand, are you ready? I think that there are certain people who would like it not to open so quickly, I think there are certain people that would like it to do financially poorly because they think that would be very good as far as defeating me at the polls,” Trump told Reid. “And I don’t know if that’s so, but I do think it’s so that there are people in your profession that would like that to happen.”
He continued, “I think it’s very clear that there are people in your profession that write fake news. You do, she does, there are people in your profession that write fake news. They would love to see me, for whatever reason, because we’ve done one helluva job. Nobody’s done the job that we’ve done — and it’s lucky that you have this group here right now for this problem or you wouldn’t even have a country left.”

Senate coronavirus bill bars Trump companies from receiving federal aid

Washington — Included in the $2 trillion stimulus package aimed at delivering relief to families, small businesses and industries reeling from the coronavirus pandemic is a provision that blocks businesses controlled by President Trump and his family from receiving federal relief.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s office said Wednesday morning that the New York Democrat secured the provision in the bipartisan deal, prohibiting companies like the Trump Organization from receiving loans or investments from Treasury Department programs.
Businesses controlled by Vice President Mike Pence, members of Congress and Cabinet chiefs are also barred from benefiting from federal funds, according to Schumer’s office. The prohibition extends to children, spouses and in-laws of the government officials.

Properties owned by Mr. Trump have not been immune to the effects of the coronavirus. According to The New York Times, the Trump Organization has cut staff from its hotels in New York and Washington, stopped new reservations at a hotel in Las Vegas and closed golf courses in California and Florida.
In Washington, D.C., which has ordered nonessential businesses to close and placed restrictions on restaurants and bars, the Trump International Hotel, a gathering place for allies of the president and administration officials, has closed its restaurant, bar and spa. Mar-a-Lago, the president’s South Florida resort where he often hosts other world leaders, has also closed.
Mr. Trump was pressed Sunday to commit that no taxpayer dollars would go toward his properties.

Inadvertently Making POTUS Look ‘Competent’

As President Donald Trump’s approval ratings hit all-time highs, Trump’s critics are now arguing that the nightly news broadcasts are inadvertently upping his ratings by inadvertently making Trump seem “coherent,” “competent,” and “presidential” by truncating his rambling responses during the Coronavirus crisis.
Press Watch’s Dan Froomkin argued on Wednesday “that the broadcast networks shouldn’t break into regular programming to show the briefings live anymore. Watching them, unfiltered, makes their viewers dumber and less safe.”

But cable news producers and hosts are struggling to figure out how to prevent Trump from “hijacking” the briefings and turning them into “virtual campaign rallies.” MSNBC’s Chris Hayes simply did not play any sound on Tuesday while airing Trump’s clips and corrected Trump’s “lies.” According to the Daily Beast, “privately, several staffers at CNN and MSNBC have acknowledged that airing Trump’s pressers live and in full likely amplifies the spread of misinform.” An NBC News “insider” even reportedly told the outlet that Trump needs to be “quarantined” like the Coronavirus: “I think the best way to handle the president in the briefing is that you handle the president like you handle the virus. He has to be contained and quarantined and his falsehoods have to be scrubbed so that they don’t rub off on you.”

Trump is way too nice to media scum like CBS News manipulator Paula Reid, who is a despicable subversive constantly undermining his every move. I don’t know how the great man can be so moderate in his responses to a filthy creature like Reid instead of unleashing a torrent of abuse on the anti-American traitor (in private of course ).
Trump has to be the most abused President in American history. Yet here he is, still standing strong, and ready to battle the MSM until they – NOT him – are ready to admit defeat. They might as well because the Donald is simply unbeatable!

Unless and until we know how widespread the epidemic is (we aren’t even close to knowing) and have isolated the sick to prevent it spreading further, opening the economy would be at best dangerously premature and at worst criminally insane.
