Thousands crowd Colorado Springs arena ahead of Trump rally

As many as 20,000 people gathered in Colorado Springs for a Trump campaign rally Thursday afternoon at an arena that holds half that number.
Air Force One landed at 3:48 p.m., and President Donald Trump met with Democratic Colorado Gov. Jared Polis on board. Trump was scheduled to take the stage around 5 p.m. at the Broadmoor World Arena. Vice President Mike Pence is also attending the rally.
U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner, a Yuma Republican, spoke before the president, touting Colorado’s economic success during Trump’s tenure. Gardner also criticized the Democrats running against him and Trump as far left.
“Vote Democrat if you want Bernie Sanders, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, AOC and the rest of the far left implementing their socialist agenda!” Gardner said over the loud crowd.
“We have to go on the offensive,” he added. “It’s our job to explain why their radical policies will hurt Colorado, why they will hurt this country. Because while they want to bribe you with ‘free,’ I will stand with you for freedom. Together, we must stand.”
The crowd outside the arena Thursday afternoon included people dressed up as Uncle Sam and Trump and at least a dozen protesters carrying signs with phrases such as “Little lying Donny boy.”
Thursday’s speech will be Trump’s second in the conservative bastion of Colorado Springs in the past year. Last April, he spoke at the Air Force Academy’s graduation, delivering a tightly scripted speech.

Barely lost Colorado? No, Trump lost by more than 4% of the vote in 2016. The Republican Party in Colorado has been in disarray for years. Cory Gardner has hardly been a strong Trump supporter. But let’s pray Trump wins Colorado this year and Gardner is reelected..
