Ukrainian President Zelensky Calls Impeachment A TV Soap Opera

A stunning rebuke to Democrats — albeit a pedestrian euphemism for a treasonous coup.

Ukrainian President Zelensky Calls Impeachment A TV Soap Opera

In a rebuke to Democrats, the Ukrainian president dismissed the impeachment of Trump as a television soap opera.

In a wide-ranging interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky referred to the impeachment of President Donald Trump as a television series, specifically citing the soap operas “Santa Barbara” and “Dallas.”

Throwing cold water on what Democrats alleged to be a pressure campaign on Zelensky and his government, the Ukrainian president also said he looks forward to his next conversation with Trump and hopes to visit the White House.

Zelensky did bristle when asked about corruption in Ukraine, asking President Trump to stop referring to his country as one of the most corrupt in the world. But he did acknowledge that in the past, Ukraine has suffered under great government corruption. He promised his administration is changing that and operating openly and honestly.

The interview severely undermines the entire premise of the Trump impeachment effort. Why on earth would Zelensky look forward to further conversations with Trump if the latter was, in Democrats’ words, extorting him in their July 25 phone call?

Story continues below advertisement

According to the Democrats and their allies in the media, Zelensky has been lying when he says he felt no pressure from President Trump to launch investigations into the energy company Burisma tied to Joe Biden’s son Hunter. The entire impeachment effort was based on the notion that Trump was dangling military aid to Ukraine until such an investigation was announced. But no investigation was announced, and the aid flowed before its deadline.

Further, while the Obama administration sat on its hands when Russia invaded Ukraine and only managed to send non-lethal aid such as blankets, the Trump administration has given significant lethal aid in an effort to thwart Russia’s military advances. Clearly, Zelensky is interested in further cultivating this relationship with Trump and the United States.

Aside from the fact that Zelensky, a former comedian, should upgrade his cable package, as he’s watching TV shows from the early 1980s, his dismissive view of the impeachment debacle is telling. One gets the sense from his remarks that he feels Democrats have been using him and his country to further attacks on Trump’s presidency when those same Democrats should be focused on helping his country defend itself from Russian aggression.

Just over a week after Trump’s acquittal in the Senate, this interview further cements the fact that impeachment was a cynical political ploy, not a serious investigation into an alleged abuse of power in which the person allegedly being bribed didn’t even know any bribery was happening.

The soap opera is over, and it is obvious Zelensky wants no reboot of it. Nobody shot JR. What the Ukrainian president wants and what we should all want is to put this sham impeachment behind us and to move forward with a meaningful and productive relationship with our ally. Hopefully now, that is exactly what will happen.

It’s a soap opera in wake of enslavement of Africans in Saudi Arabia, forced declitorization of girls & freedom-loving people in Muhammadist prisons.

Now the Leftocrats are attacking Trump’s tweets as an abuse of power. They are hysterical because he complained about the sentencing of Stone. This is going to keep going on as long as Trump is President. Every week if not every day, shrill MSM and Leftocratic voices will continue to cry out for impeachment…yes, they want and we may yet see a second impeachment!!

Wait until Barr fires all the Obama attorneys or the President fires Christopher Wray and a new FBI Director comes in and fires all of Obama’s people or at least demotes them to field agents.

They have no Constitutional right to muzzle the President’s free speech.

I would like him to have a bit of a filter, but that’s my opinion, he’s doing what he has a Constitutional right to do.

Sad thing is I live in Ukraine and you will not find this article or anything like in the Kyiv Post, the major English Language publication, in Ukraine. The Sr Ed, Brain Bonner, has made no secret of his loathing and contempt for DJT both verbally and in writing. Up until the acquittal there was daily trashing of DJT. It only subsided the last few days. But when an article does appear it is again negative. What DJT, Trump Jr., and Giuliani need to do is take the Kyiv Post to task. They also have no “letters to the editor” section where one can rebut the left leaning bent.

Shows KP is Left Center.

Analysis / Bias

Reporters Without Borders ranks the Ukraine 101 out of 180 countries in the 2018 World Press Freedom Index. According to a Columbia Journalism Review article dated 2014 and titled “Kyiv Post’s unlikely success”, they describe how an editor from Minnesota and a Pakistani billionaire are riding the story of their lives as Ukraine unravels.” The Kyiv Post’s main focus is on stories about corruption and war.

In review, the Kyiv Post utilizes emotionally loaded language in their headlines such as “Ukraine continues to build case against Russia in International Court of Justice in The Hague.” Sourcing is typically through large blocks of quotes via interviews or utilizing local sources which we have not verified at this time, such as Ukrayinska Pravda, Ukrainian News Agency, The UNIAN, (The Kharkiv Human Rights Protection Group (KhPG), and . In this article there is a good example of word choices/opinion that favor the left: “It is likely that the 30 young masked thugs who burned down a permanent Roma settlement in Rudne, near Lviv on 9 May were also from far-right groups.” The Kyiv Post also republishes articles from a variety of left leaning sources such as the Washington Post, New York Times, Buzzfeed and CNN. A factual search reveals that the Kyiv Post has published misleading or false information in the past.
Overall, we rate Kyiv Post Left-Center Biased due to word choices and story selection that favor the left and Mixed for factual reporting due to some misleading claims as confirmed by fact checkers. (M. Huitsing 6/14/2018)

Just curious, when did the spelling change from “Kiev”, which was the spelling from the time I was a kid (I’m 65), to “Kyiv”, which I first noticed less than a year ago?

Sad to say the Dems will not stop. It is only a matter of time before they come up with another hoax.

The country is hopelessly divided. It is time for a peaceful convention where the country is divided between the LibTards aka Communists and the Patriots aka Constitutionals. Let the LibTards create the socialist hell they so desire and let us be free of them for good. It will be just a short time before they scream for aid.

Finally, some gratitude from the international community.

“The Lies and Loves of Adam Schiff” was a soap opera ratings failure.
It will be replaced with “Get a Life to Live”, Monday through Friday 1pm ET.
