Haley: Tillerson tried to stop US Embassy move to Jerusalem

The secretary of state “declared” in a meeting, according to Haley, “that he wanted to be on record opposing the move.”

By World Israel News Staff, November 13, 2019:

Story continues below advertisement

Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley says that the previous secretary of state in the Trump administration, Rex Tillerson, opposed the president’s decision to move the U.S. Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem and tried to stop it from happening.

In her new book, With All Due Respect, Haley – who stepped down as U.N. envoy at the end of 2018 – says Tillerson was her biggest adversary in the administration.

Trump announced American recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital in December 2017. The dedication of the new embassy took place in May 2018.

Tillerson left as secretary of state at the end of March 2018. He was replaced by Mike Pompeo.

Haley writes of her own support for the move of the embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, arguing that it was “simply common sense” because “in virtually every country in the world, the U.S. embassy is located in the host country’s capital city.”

She charges that Tillerson, among others in the administration “seemed to be thinking primarily about how the decision would affect their reputation.”

The secretary of state “declared” in a meeting, according to Haley, “that he wanted to be on record opposing the move.”

Others in the cabinet argued that moving the embassy “would set off violence that would damage the peace process,” she writes in her book.

Haley also asserts that some top administration officials, including Tillerson and former White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, wanted her help in acting against the president in order to “save the country,” but that she declined.

They said that the president “didn’t know what he was doing,” writes the former ambassador, and believed that it was “their decisions, not the president’s, that were in the best interests of America,” adds Haley, who was interviewed by CBS ahead of Tuesday’s release of the book.

“Instead of saying that to me, they should’ve been saying that to the president, not asking me to join them on their sidebar plan,” said Haley in the interview which aired on Sunday.

“It should’ve been, ‘Go tell the president what your differences are, and quit if you don’t like what he’s doing.’ But to undermine a president is really a very dangerous thing,” according to the former U.N. ambassador.

No, someone who worked his entire life in the private sector, and then accepted a position as a political appointee, is not a “swamp creature”.

Moreover, Trump has done nothing of enduring value to “drain the swamp”, at least when it does not involve his direct political adversaries. No significant reforms enacted into law or even submitted to Congress. This administration’s trumpeting “drain the swamp” is pure political theater.

Tillerman holds the same values as a swamp creature. He feels he knows better how to run the country, than the duly elected president and actively and secretly worked against his boss. . He may have worked his whole life in the private sector but he was a consummate swamp creature from the get go

They said that the president “didn’t know what he was doing,”

I fully believe that, and frankly, given Trump’s tendency to run the government out his hip pocket according to his instincts, that scares me a bit. I don’t think he’d be in this impeachment mess over his interaction with Zelensky if he had more understanding both of how government works and his own limitations. But I question any POTUS does know what he’s doing: the system is simply too complicated, with unpredictable elements.

But talk about not know what you are doing. Warnings by deeply knowledgeable “experts” produced such wisdom as

moving the embassy “would set off violence that would damage the peace process,”

Nope, it only would have if Arab leaders decided to fan the flames. Turns out, Jerusalem, which has no real religious significance in Islam, really wasn’t that important after all. AFAIAC, State has had a long history of wrong-headed Arabist thinking.

One of my favorite examples of “knowitalls” in government was the Clinton administration official meeting with Israeli officials and the end of Clinton’s second term. An Israeli observed they could not relinquish control over the airspace over Judea and Samaria because they feared missile attacks on planes taking off or landing from Ben Gurion Airport. Some self-presumed sage in a responsible in the administration smarmily replied, toward the end of 2000, that the Israeli had a “vivid imagination”. I wonder if the dolt rethought his position on Sep 11 of the following year.

Interesting that in spite of Trump putting the embassy where it is suppose to be, in Jerusalem, Israel’s relations with many Arab countries are better than ever. Tillerson was clearly wrong. Tillerson put money ahead God’s plan. Jerusalem was, is and will always be the eternal Jewish capital!

She was a Never Trumper with Trey Gowdy…they back Ooooobio….
Here parents were not Americans and Dad is an academic….and we know what they teach…..
She was not reared in the US….India and Canada….she is subject to the Left…they got her to take down a National symbol….and so much more.
I won’t ever vote for her for anything.

I’ll have to look into that. Face it though, most of the Republican Party and especially conservatives, including our hostess Pamela Geller , did not choose Trump as their first choice. I liked him because he was not a typical Republican. I thought Democrats might be willing to work with him as a result of his unconventionality, but I was underestimating the depth and decay of the swamp.

True….and I remember that Cruz and Glenn Beck were all cozy and hated Trump….Beck has done a one eighty….and Cruz appears to have, but don’t trust it.

If I had the time I’d tell his very long history with the Bush Cabal starting from college all the way up to the time he ran and I could make a good case that he should never be in the Presidency. It amounts to putting in another NWO Bush.

He also co-authored an op-ed in the WSJ with RINO RYan…PROMOTING TPP.

One quick fact though: when Jebito quit the race, Neil Bush went from his brother’s campaign as finance manager…immediately to Cruz’s campaign. Neil is the Gonif that was in on the Keating Five along with Lame McCain…..they cost the savings of ten’s of thousands of Savings and Loan Customers….and not one day in jail. If memory serves me, John Kerry was in on that also,

Conversely, I thought the world of General Kelly (I’m former military wife) and then he goes behind Trump’s back with the Globalist Tillerson and stabs President Trump in the back. I mourned that all day.

Now I won’t trust any of them…especially military big wigs….proves there actually is a Military Industrial Complex like Eisenhower warned us.

My main thing about Haley is….she was too quick to bow to the Left about the Historic Flag that honors the soldiers who fought in the Civil War for the South. Just because they didn’t win is no cause to forget their deaths…..they thought they were fighting for States Rights.

Haley doesn’t know our American History….so how can she ever honor it or resist future pleas to tear down our history.

History is there to remind up of what to do in the future….and definitely what not to do in the future.

I agreed with most of what you wrote, especially about the Bush family, esp. Neil and Jeb, and the strangeness of Ted Cruz. However I don’t think you are right about Haley or that the Confederate flag should fly over the South Carolina statehouse. She has spoken about that experience and her respect for the history and that it was difficult to decide. I think she made the right call. Yes, Southerners are proud of their culture and history but that flag is a also a very painful reminder for too many people of when their family members were slaves/treated as property. Thirty percent of SC is black so that’s a lot of people affected. As Haley said, that flag belongs in a museum, not on a government building which represents all the people. I did read something about her background and that she had experiences as a child of her father being a victim of racism which affected her decision — something awful she didn’t forget. I remember as a child traveling with my family through the South and seeing signs on water fountains designating Colored or Whites and signs in motels which said, No Jews allowed, which kept us out. That was terrible and I’ve never forgotten it. The Confederate flag for many people is a symbol and a reminder of a way of life which was based on slavery, and yes, as well a reminder of people of courage. People have a right to feel proud of their heritage and express it anyway they want, they can have a Confederate flag if they want imo. But as you know, our government represents and serves all the people, it shouldn’t be a slap in the face. I wouldn’t want the flag flown over the state house to celebrate the glory days of slavery or to pretend it didn’t happen and a war wasn’t fought over that.

Good post.
I still say every citizen needs a reminder of what not to do….as much as what to do. And those who had family in that war who were fighting for what they thought was a right to direct their own states and lives deserve to see the honor of their sacrifice.

Here’s a question: How do you feel about the same “triggered mobs” who irreparablely defaced George Washington’s bust? How about the same ones tearing down generals and others, statutes in New Orleans?

And what would you do if you woke up one morning and the big news was that the same jerks had set off explosives at the Lincoln Memorial and obliterated Abe?

My point is, where does it stop? Who gets to decide what is offensive and what is not? What if a violent bunch of jerks decided Martin Luther King’s statue should come down? How about the tomb of the Unknown Soldier?

I would prefer that they put another statue next to the “offending” one representing the ones who fought against the “offensive” one Say like, put a statue of Betsy Ross who was an abolitionist next to or near the one that fought for States’ Rights. Two separate views…then people can decide for themselves. A contrast.

When others with an “agenda” to tear down all things American….that is Totalitarianism….Hitler did that with the youth to the point they ratted out their own parents to the SS.

Right now there is an alarming rise in group think on campuses…Some of these kids have called in the Rush Limbaugh show and told how professors failed them because they didn’t “think” right…or they disagreed with what the professor said….

Professors who won’t go along with the group-think of the administrators are being fired….their careers lost.

Jewish kids are being beat up on campuses…groups wanting to get rid of Jews are actually invited to give speeches on campus…while at the same time those supporting Jews are run off of campuses and beat up.

It starts with a flag and statues….it ends in Socialism and control of everything in our lives to the point life isn’t worth living anymore.

And since we are posting on the Geller site….Pamela is banned from going to the UK to speak about the evils of Islam….and now that country has prevented anyone from disagreeing with anything Islam. And it is a very unsafe place to be now.

I know what you are saying but there is a difference between a sculpture which honors someone from the past and flying a flag on a public building which is more of a living symbol. That’s why I agreed with Haley when she said the Confederate flag belongs in a museum, not on the statehouse which represents all of the citizens. Yes, I also believe the left has gone crazy with its attempt to remove our history and denigrates our founders for being “imperfect people.” As far as the Robt. E. Lee statue in Charlottesville was concerned I thought it was a great piece of art by a renown sculptor, Henry Shrady, who did the Grant Monument in front of the US Capitol, finished by Leo Lentelli because Shrady was too ill to complete the work. (I majored in art history but as far as the left is concerned I must be a white nationalist, right?) I would have kept the artwork because of its quality. I agreed with the local people who voted to keep the sculpture and who noted the town could not now afford a work of that quality. There was value in the piece regardless of the individual portrayed. We don’t reject Greek or Egyptian sculpture because we don’t worship their emperors and gods, etc. But I live 3000 miles away and felt that the town should decide what they wanted without outside interference. People who go around destroying public monuments are barbarians looking for anarchy or a totalitarian state of their design. Phewy on them.
Our conversation inspired me to watch some movies about the South. On Amazon Prime I watched a film called “Judge Priest” with Will Rogers — yes they were a genteel society but it was very sad and sobering to see blacks portrayed as happy and inferior beings. Now I’m watching “Birth of a Nation” which definitely portrays the aristocracy of the South. I’ve been close friends with some people from the South and I do respect the refinement. However I am glad we have gotten to a place as a nation where people like Candace Owens and Ben Carson etc., are given due opportunity and respect. That would never have happened if the Confederacy and slavery had prevailed. I think you have to separate out your support for the Confederate flag and the Confederacy from your support of the USA and our ideals because the Confederacy did not represent the highest ideals. It was a very race and class based society, not based on equality of all people under the law.

Rex Tillerson is just one example of a much bigger problem in the United States government. President Donald Trump stands in the way of the plans of the Democrat Party for socialism, globalism and other things. So many people in the Democrat Party hate President Donald Trump and have been trying to put Him out of office ever since He was elected, with the latest effort being this baseless attempt at impeachment that is being illegally conducted.

I was all for Tillerson and wondered why the president seemed to hesitate hiring him. After not too long it
was abundantly clear why. Tillerson was/is a stuffed shirt, arrogant, with an ill-advised and inflated belief
that he made the decisions, not the President.
Incompetent people like Tillerson are so common.
People like our President Trump are one in a trillion.
