Taibbi: Impeaching Trump Would Establish ‘Intelligence Community Veto over Elections’
Rolling Stone contributing editor Matt Taibbi reframes the House Democrats’ impeachment inquiry — and its latest development in the arrest of two associates of Rudy Giuliani — as a “permanent coup” against President Trump playing out more slowly than coups he has experienced firsthand in other nations.

The men who are the proxies for Donald Trump and Rudy Giuliani in this story are asserting that “official channels” have been corrupted. The forces backing impeachment, meanwhile, are telling us those same defendants are obstructing a lawful impeachment inquiry.

My discomfort in the last few years, first with Russiagate and now with Ukrainegate and impeachment, stems from the belief that the people pushing hardest for Trump’s early removal are more dangerous than Trump. Many Americans don’t see this because they’re not used to waking up in a country where you’re not sure who the president will be by nightfall. They don’t understand that this predicament is worse than having a bad president.
The Trump presidency is the first to reveal a full-blown schism between the intelligence community and the White House. Senior figures in the CIA, NSA, FBI and other agencies made an open break from their would-be boss before Trump’s inauguration, commencing a public war of leaks that has not stopped.

I don’t believe most Americans have thought through what a successful campaign to oust Donald Trump would look like. Most casual news consumers can only think of it in terms of Mike Pence becoming president. The real problem would be the precedent of a de facto intelligence community veto over elections, using the lunatic spookworld brand of politics that has dominated the last three years of anti-Trump agitation.
CIA/FBI-backed impeachment could also be a self-fulfilling prophecy. If Donald Trump thinks he’s going to be jailed upon leaving office, he’ll sooner or later figure out that his only real move is to start acting like the “dictator” MSNBC and CNN keep insisting he is. Why give up the White House and wait to be arrested, when he still has theoretical authority to send Special Forces troops rappelling through the windows of every last Russiagate/Ukrainegate leaker? That would be the endgame in a third world country, and it’s where we’re headed, unless someone calls off this craziness. Welcome to the Permanent Power Struggle.

Time for Trump to use the Marine Reserve he activated to take down the left, and locking out any department that may try to block him, including the Pentagon.
It’s gone on for far two long this cup against Trump, arrest the lot and give them all time in detention centres way out in the desert, no luxuries and chespest of meals and just water.

we have the unelected democrat-controlled deep state trying to overthrow the president. i believe this is a first in american history, so we are in uncharted waters. in such a situation, i would support a president declaring martial law, hand-picking military officers to run the military, tanks and soldiers on the streets of DC, and widespread arrests of civil servants suspected of trying to overthrow our country. i would also support the arrest of the CA state government leaders and replacing them with people loyal to the US. and to make this stick, voting would be restricted to americans citizens with a valid ID, paper ballots with a numerical ID on them and a receipt that is given to the voter, ink on the index finger after you vote, and ballots counted in each precinct and verified by a group of 7 people, with the entire process open to the public to observe. my guess is that this would last several years, and all americans still opposed to the rule of law and adherence to the constitution will be allowed to go play basketball in china

If NOTHING ELSE is possible – this ONE ISSUE should be settled. VOTING in America should be ABSOLUTELY RESTRICTED to AMERICAN CITIZENS with a VALID ID, ballots with a numerical ID on them, and a receipt given to each voter. Ink on the index finger after voting. etc.

First of all, Trump will be reelected in a massive landslide. The political theater we see being played out before us is an attempt to manufacture an impeachable offense. It’ll never happen.
Should the Left engineer something and try to negate the 2016 election, this country would be reduced to a state making the Civil War look like child’s play.
You cannot create an impeachable offense on the same order as making chicken salad out of chicken sh*t.

This problem with the intel community is because of past administrations.. The last time the intel community did its job was during the Reagan admin. Bush started pulling it apart after the Soviet regime was taken down, Clinton decimated many of its programs keeping us safe (9/11 occurred partly because of Clinton) Bush jr allowed the influx of Muslims instead of Arab Christians after 9/11, Obama decided to use it as his own spy organizations: spying on people to glean info and use it against them. A real KGB type operation.
Until we have at least 2 administrations with a full eight years who understand how deep the swamp is and takes efforts to completely overhaul the intel community, these organizations will continue to be a threat to America, its laws and freedoms.
A country depends on its intel community. That is the first line of defense. We don’t have that now. They’re too busy trying to depose Trump instead of protecting this nation.
