Trump orders Navy to rescind medals from lawyers who prosecuted SEAL Eddie Gallagher

28

The prosecution was troubled long before the not guilty verdict. The lead prosecutor was removed from the case after being caught attaching tracking software to email messages sent to defense lawyers. Then another SEAL who was given immunity by testifying from the stand that he was the one who had killed the captive.

Nonetheless, the Navy hosted an award ceremony on July 10 for four lawyers who worked on the case, as well as four legal support workers, all of whom were awarded Navy Achievement Medals, according to Task and Purpose, an online news site focused on the military and veterans.

The left is bemoaning that Trump did this in public. The left, who entire mission is dumping all over America, every day in every way, is what? Concerned with the optics for the military? The despise the military. And they herald Obama for going around the world apologizing for America.

The NY Times writes;

Other presidents have been dissatisfied with military prosecutors, but experts could not recall another instance in recent times when a commander in chief intervened so directly in a case like this. In other administrations, they said, any objections to medals would usually be expressed privately and resolved outside of public view.”

“What makes this unusual is the president’s decision to do it through Twitter, thus making it a very public rebuke of everyone involved,” said Peter D. Feaver, a specialist on civilian-military relations at Duke University and former national security aide to Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.

“Of course, the president as commander in chief has the prerogative to give his rebukes however he wishes,” Mr. Feaver added, “but the approach President Trump has chosen to take seems calculated to inflame rather than calm the issue.”

The NY Times is lamenting the transparency.

Trump orders Navy to rescind medals from lawyers who prosecuted SEAL Eddie Gallagher

By: NY Post, August 1, 2019:

President Trump said Wednesday that he would order the Navy to rescind medals given to military lawyers who prosecuted a former Navy SEAL the president supported during his court martial on murder charges.

“The Prosecutors who lost the case against SEAL Eddie Gallagher (who I released from solitary confinement so he could fight his case properly), were ridiculously given a Navy Achievement Medal,” Trump wrote on Twitter.

“I have directed the Secretary of the Navy Richard Spencer & Chief of Naval Operations John Richardson to immediately withdraw and rescind the awards,” Trump continued.

”I am very happy for Eddie Gallagher and his family!”

The four attorneys who prosecuted Gallagher were given Navy Achievement Medals last month, the Navy Times reported.

Gallagher, 40, was acquitted by a military jury July 3 of a murder charge in connection with the 2017 death of an ISIS fighter in Iraq and released after getting credit for time served.

The commando thanked Trump for intervening in his case.

Trump returned the praise, tweeting, “Congratulations to Navy Seal Eddie Gallagher, his wonderful wife Andrea, and his entire family. You have been through much together. Glad I could help!”

The president had Gallagher transferred from a military brig to a less restrictive facility.

The Navy Times artcile, linked in the NY Post article, had this to say:

Those pair of awards raised eyebrows because although those Navy attorneys weren’t found culpable of wrongdoing, the prosecution team was sanctioned by Navy judge Capt. Aaron Rugh for violating the constitutional rights of Gallagher.

I meant the junior Seals who “dobbed” him in for supposed wrongdoing as he did not like their lack of professionalism while on duty in the ME and they had an axe to grind.

They should have to go through 6 months of “Hell Week”.

So by acting directly and at his discretion, Trump by doing the right thing in the name of natural justice gets up the backs of those deep state military people who were observed purring contentedly every time a progressive came into the room in earlier times.

Tough, a decent man serving his country at the behest of politicians is cleared.

I don’t know that that is true at all, although I concede it may “inflame” the situation. But I think it also may draw a very public line that basically says: Do Not Do This, whereas quietly taking back the awards would have sent a signal more along the lines of ok, we lost this round, but it’s still business as usual for us.

There is a dire need for many such lines and not a few should be drawn around mosques and madrassas let alone the evil sinkholes of the left.

No! The First True Western leader since Churchill as Reagan had it easy by comparison (NOT meant as an insult to he who Gorbachev called “the dinosaur” as I value his presidency)

Agreed, but methinks the poster had meant American President/Leader, one hopes. We would all be speaking German if it were not for Winston Churchill. If the attack on Pearl Harbor had not occurred or had later during the War, the Germans would more than likely have succeeded in the ultimate downfall of Great Britain. A Churchill is desperately needed today; however, it is highly unlikely.

True! Reagan had one problem, and that was GHW Bush, who is probably why he signed the 1986 immigration bill legalizing more than 3 million illegal aliens. The Bushs have been internationalists for a long time and they make money when we’re at war.

Those prosecutors should also have their commissions rescinded.

This had to be on twitter and very public – the MSM has been protecting and concealing the deleterious actions of PC Military leadership which thrived under Obama and has attempted to continue under Trump.
The failed prosecution got medals for what? Manipulating and withholding exculpatory evidence? Spying on the defence team?

Medals for reprobate lawyers is never a good idea…worse is “what kind of Military leadership ordered the medals in the first place.?

Eisenhower in his farewell speech to America: “Beware of the Military Complex.”

Dwight D. Eisenhower ends his presidential term by warning the nation about the increasing power of the military-industrial complex.

His remarks, issued during a televised farewell address to the American people, were particularly significant since Ike had famously served the nation as military commander of the Allied forces during WWII. Eisenhower urged his successors to strike a balance between a strong national defense and diplomacy in dealing with the Soviet Union. He did not suggest arms reduction and in fact acknowledged that the bomb was an effective deterrent to nuclear war. However, cognizant that America’s peacetime defense policy had changed drastically since his military career, Eisenhower expressed concerns about the growing influence of what he termed the military-industrial complex.

No, one staffer said that the original Eisenhower speech was actually
“Beware of the Congressional Military Industrial Complex” but was told to drop “Congressional.”

Yours was a well thought out and constructed comment. I especially liked your remark ”
“what kind of Military leadership ordered the medals in the first place.?”

There are many other imprisoned military men right now who must fight for their freedom. If they were guilty of wanton criminality it would be one thing. But these are people who did what they had to do to protect their men or the civilian population. Some of those military brass are aligned with the devil. And some are not. Obama got rid of many good leaders in the military and promoted the kind of sickos that made soldiers wear red high heels and promoted the rape of heterosexual military by homosexuals with greater rank. It is past time for Americans to stop being silent.

What a kind and thoughtful President. It’s about time we had a President who stood up for “Truth, Justice, and the American Way.” He really is a “super” man.

Translation: Mr. Feaver of Duke University objects to the fact that President Trump publicly revealed the evil of the America hating military prosecutors and tweeted about having their “rewards” for evil doing publicly rescinded. Bravo POTUS Trump.

Twitter recently had the gall to delete one of Trump’s tweets. I do not agree with everything Trump does, such s his recent lambasting of Rep. Justin Amash. But deleting a tweet from the POTUS is another indication that the social control tech giants need to be sued and brought under law.

It’s not just these specific lawyers that should be dismissed from the service, it is the entire culture of the several JAG outfits, including the Air Force and the Army. They were stacked with Obama appointees and hires and reflect the most extreme views on enforcing military regulations and rules of engagement. They are intimidating our the brave men and women of our armed forces. Their actions have led to the deaths and maiming of hundreds of our precious servicemen and women. JAG need to be cleaned out and officers and commanders appointed who understand the dangers and vicissitudes of warfare. Trump needs to do a house cleaning here as well. In addition, these lawyers will probably leave the service and the first place they will apply is to the DOJ or state attorney services. They need to be disbarred and banned from serving as attorneys in any capacity whatsoever. A dishonorable discharge should be a good beginning.

OMG: I had no idea of these things. But of course you’re right.

I never thought of the fact that of course demons like Zero will still be stacking “bodies” in the Military, everywhere. It’s just so hard to think of people with Zero’s mindset even being in the Military…

How horribly diabolical.

When people see a soldier in uniform, with a chest full of medals, they think the soldier is a hero. Not all of those ribbons are for valor. Many are for being a part of an operation, even if that part didn’t actually involve that soldier directly. So, a person who participated in Vietnam but never saw combat will still have ribbons showing he was there.
So when a group of army lawyers put together a murder case and get a medal for doing that, the person the prosecute had better be guilty. Here was this guy, by all accounts a hero, and he might have killed an enemy combatant, but it turns out that he might not. By going ahead with a prosecution, a man’s life is marked forever, guilty of innocent. So, the people who got medals did not seserve them in this case. Those are the medals recinded, not others won in different actions.
We need to be aware that not all medals are created equally. I got a grenade fragment in my hand, and no Purple Heart. But I did get my Vietnam ribbons, and a Good Conduct medal. No, not all are equal. Not everyone deserving one gets one, and some ordinary (but brave) actions are never reported.
