Police in northern Turkey’s Bolu province seized $72 million worth of radioactive Californium, an element used in nuclear weapons and reactors, local authorities said Saturday.

Some 18.1 grams (0.638 ounces) of Californium was seized in a car by anti-smuggling and organized crime police. Five suspects were reportedly being investigated over the incident.

The substance was found stashed under the gear shifter wrapped in a bag. Officers had to cut the upholstery to get to the parcel, RT news reported.

The substance was taken to the Turkish Atomic Energy Authority for a detailed analysis.

Currently, the US and Russia are the only producers of Californium.

I watched a TV show about 10 years ago where they were talking to a Russian admiral. He claimed around a hundred small (1to 2 kiloton,) back-packable, nuclear weapons went missing after the fall of the Iron Curtain. He also claimed a couple of much larger ones were missing too. I heard this admiral disappeared shortly after the interview. Have looked high and low but cannot find this interview.
If true, I wonder who has these nukes now?

Russia used to supply small portable reactors as stand alone power supplies to people in remote rural areas. They have enough material in them to make a large dirty bomb but nobody knows how many of them ended up in the wrong hands or even where most of them are after the fall of the USSR.

The future on this planet promises to be very frightening, especially if the Death Cult gets their hands on such material. My guess is, its just a matter of time till a dirty bomb, actual nuclear blast, or biological attack occurs on one or more Western nations, given the lackadaisical response to domestic Islamic terrorism in these nations so far; especially, as in Canada’s, and Germanys case where they knowingly import ISIS terrorists.

The Death Cult already has their hands on nukes — in Pakistain. I’m surprised the f’ing muslums haven’t detonated nuclear weapons somewhere in the dying atheist West or Israel yet but allah in good time.

Yes
– of the approx 200 world countries
– only about 20 are reasonably stable
– and with 180 tyrant governments
– trouble will persist indefinitely
– because tyrants are psychopaths
– and they are inherently prone to war
– because war is distracting, and it helps subjugation
– therefore, until we get rid of tyrants
– we will be prone to nuclear attack

Those devices are not nuke-capable
– they are just coffin-sized capsules with highly radioactive material inside
– that decays, and gives off heat
– the capsule has multiple thermocouples inside that convert heat into electricity
– so the things work but they are horribly inefficient, hot, and radioactive
– can’t be used to make bombs

You do know what a “dirty bomb” is don’t you? A non nuclear detonation that spreads radioactive material over a large area in case you don’t, so yes, these small reactors can be used in weapons.

True
– but not as nuclear weapons
– dirty bombs have limited lethality
– compared to nukes

Dirty bombs are not meant to be lethal, they are meant to make an area unusable. Imagine a large one deployed in New York financial district or Washington itself. People would flee for miles around creating mayhem and destroying the financial position of the country. Probably more people would be killed in the panic than by the radiation.

That may be true, but the Iranians gave us EFDs thanks to all the graduates of American colleges. This material appears to be a neutron source that can be used to accelerate a fission process. Recall the Russian defector in Britain? Polonium is a terrible way to die. Not knowing what sort of dose this emits, would you like to find out that the guy standing next to you at a Memorial Day parade was carrying some? I would not! We have to think out side the box.

Nukes degrade over time
– so they have to be maintained and upgraded to work
– therefore, even if the report is true
– the nukes are probably not usable anymore
– note also that the US also had/has small nukes
– search term: Davy Crockett nuke
https://armyhistory.org/the-m28m29-davy-crockett-nuclear-weapon-system/
– and even nuclear 155 mm artillery shells
– Israel may also have small nukes, since they would make good bunker busters

I know about the small American nukes, including the Davy Crockett which was dangerous to those fired them due to its extremely short range. But the point is the Americans can account for their nukes but the Russians cannot.
Do you happen to know how long before these missing weapons become unusable?

DemocracyRules
DemocracyRules

About 20 years
– but even the Russians try to maintain what they have
– so I don’t know if there is a good ‘degradation test sample’
– to measure the degradation process over multiple decades

Oh yes, the tyrant countries will target the USA
– for sure
– and they will rely on ‘plausible deniability’
– regarding the source of the nuke attack
– just the way Iran did in the Gulf in the last few weeks
– where Iran did the the attacks, but Iran denies it
– and even Trump is not 100% sure that Iran did it
– that would also work in a nuke attack
– with nukes on Klubs hidden in containers, airliners, etc.
– Israel handles this problem with a clear warning:
– if WMD are used against Israel, Syria will disappear
– and probably Iran too, no questions asked

Its possible they may not have fallen into the wrong(Islamic) hands or they were hidden, or even quietly recovered. There is no way to know.

Was it Californium or Californium-252?

Californium-252 would require Type A Radioactive Transport Container. Rather large and bulky.

I plastic bag is not sufficient for transport.

Only Californium-252 could be used in a weapon. Other forms of Californium are used in various detectors.

Can Californium be refined down to Californium 252?
– for example, by centrifuge?

Phillip Marsh

Californium-249 is formed from the beta decay of berkelium-249, and most other californium isotopes are made by subjecting berkelium to intense neutron radiation in a nuclear reactor. … Californium-252 is a very strong neutron emitter, which makes it extremely radioactive and harmful.

Thanks!
– That makes the whole story suspicious
– because 252 would probably be present in any isotope mix
– and therefore, an inadequate container would be dangerous
– because the driver of the car
– would be bombarded by lethal radiation
– especially since the container was very close to the driver
– and the inverse square law would act strongly

No. A centrifuge is a device that spins at a high rate that allows particles to be separated out.

If Iran causes global warming would we even be able to tell? Not if we relied on the enemedia to warn us. Oh well! How much missing radioactive material will it take? I guess we’ll all find out eventually.
Eat, drink, pray.
I only hope the people who knew better and still did nothing ultimately pay.
They will. Come what may.

Every one of us have dreams to acquire in spite of this we somewhere go missing in this today’s fast paced world. Let’s help to make your goals happen true by letting you earn atleast $39000 per 30 days. On-line work that work well just for you and earns for you. This is awkward to have faith in it because its high providing still its really reliable. It is not a fraud or fraud but an opportunity to spin everything the way you desired. Only two sites produce californium-252: the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the United States, and the Research Institute of Atomic Reactors in Dimitrovgrad, Russia.
As of 2003, the two sites produce 0.25 grams and 0.025 grams of californium-252 per year, respectively.[56]
