Arizona Gov. Ducey to Pull Nike Financial Incentives After NIke Nixes ‘Betsy Ross Flag’ Sneaker Because Colin Kaepernick Didn’t Like It

35

Nike nixed the released of the Air Max 1 USA after having already sent the sneakers to retailers because failed NFL football player and grievance-monger Colin Kaepernick said he felt the use of the Betsy Ross flag on the sneaker was offensive and carried slavery connotations.

“Words cannot express my disappointment at this terrible decision. I am embarrassed for Nike,” Ducey, a Republican, tweeted. “Nike is an iconic American brand and American company. This country, our system of government and free enterprise have allowed them to prosper and flourish.

Thank you, for taking a stand against the left’s war on America. Disappearing America brick by brick, symbol by symbol, town by town, city by city….a great, terrible assault on the greatest country in human history.

What’s Nike going to put on their next model? An Antifa cement milkshake?

Perhaps the best-known figure from the American Revolutionary era who wasn’t a president, general or statesman, Betsy Ross (1752-1836) became a patriotic icon in the late 19th century when stories surfaced that she had sewn the first “stars and stripes” U.S. flag in 1776. (History.com)

Arizona Gov. Ducey to pull Nike plant incentives over reported Colin Kaepernick, Betsy Ross flag flap

By Ryan Gaydos | Fox News

Nike pulls ‘Betsy Ross Flag’ sneaker after Colin Kaepernick raises concern.

Kaepernick said the Betsy Ross flag was offensive and a symbol of racism.

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey announced Tuesday he was ordering the Arizona Commerce Authority to withdraw incentives for Nike building a manufacturing plant in the state.

Ducey made the announcement in a series of tweets after The Wall Street Journal reported that former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick urged Nike to nix a USA-themed sneaker, which featured a Betsy Ross flag on the heel, over slavery connotations.

“Words cannot express my disappointment at this terrible decision. I am embarrassed for Nike,” Ducey, a Republican, tweeted. “Nike is an iconic American brand and American company. This country, our system of government and free enterprise have allowed them to prosper and flourish.

“Instead of celebrating American history the week of our nation’s independence, Nike has apparently decided that Betsy Ross is unworthy, and has bowed to the current onslaught of political correctness and historical revisionism. It is a shameful retreat for the company. American businesses should be proud of our country’s history, not abandoning it.

“Nike has made its decision, and now we’re making ours. I’ve ordered the Arizona Commerce Authority to withdraw all financial incentive dollars under their discretion that the State was providing for the company to locate here. Arizona’s economy is doing just fine without Nike. We don’t need to suck up to companies that consciously denigrate our nation’s history.

“And finally, it shouldn’t take a controversy over a shoe for our kids to know who Betsy Ross is. A founding mother. Her story should be taught in all American schools. In the meantime, it’s worth googling her.”

Nike planned to build a massive manufacturing plant in Goodyear, investing $184.5 million, according to ABC 15. The plant reportedly was going to create more than 500 jobs.

Goodyear agreed to waive nearly $1 million in plan review and permit fees to bring the plant into the city, The Arizona Republic reported. The city also planned to reimburse Nike $1 million for the jobs the company was set on creating.

Kaepernick reached out to Nike officials and expressed that the flag that was featured on the back of the shoes could be an offensive symbol because of its connection to a slavery era, according to The Wall Street Journal.

In response, a Nike spokeswoman told the Journal: “Nike has chosen not to release the Air Max 1 Quick Strike Fourth of July as it featured the old version of the American flag.”

The sneaker originally was slated to be released on Monday, and posts hyping its release said it would cost $140.

Kaepernick, the former quarterback who famously kneeled during the National Anthem starting in 2016, was named as the face of Nike’s latest “Just Do It” campaign last year. After the announcement, Nike’s stock initially fell more than 3 percent, before online sales increased.

more than half. go to their website, you’d think america’s white population was less than 10%, and that there are no white males. nike truly is marketing themselves solely to racial minorities, most of whom apparently hate white americans, so nike has to hate america as well to keep the business going

Somehow he doesn’t seem to be quite psychologically up to date.

Now Gov. Doug Ducey demonstrates leadership in this Nike case …

I’m not familiar with his record so far, but he has made a good decision in this case.

Nike should be bankrupted.

That’s what the Nasties do to anti-Nasties …

We need to bankrupt these pro-slavery commies – and shove their hateful, bigoted opinions down their bottomline.

P.S. Nike has been on my boycott list for a long time – so long I don’t remember what they did to be on it…

But they have been anti-American, anti-liberty, pro-violence, pro-hate, pro-bigoted, ‘down with the cause’ Leftards for a loooooooong time.

Ultimately I came across a remarkable opportunity and I can’t tell you how delightful I am nowadays. The best things about working from internet are: Your Workplace Can Be Anywhere- you’re not bound to your house. You can take care of your work on a trip, enjoying the great out-doors , or even listening to your favorite band at a live music show. You will be able to additionally save on food bills because you’ll very easily be able to whip up your own lunch and coffee if you work at home. You’re guaranteed to come back feeling more energized than you would after 10 mins at your computer desk surfing Facebook or twitter. You Can Learn More and Become More Self-dependent:Because you don’t have co-workers just a few feet away or a tech team 1 floor down, you’ll find yourself developing the skill of searching for your own answers and becoming more proactive to find what exactly you need on your own. Right on, Dan…..
I’m now relocated from Vegas to Tennessee for the purpose of pursuing the ones who killed my Dad with “abuse and neglect” to the point of “homicide.” I believe we’ve talked about this before. This was my birth state….and it is frightening to see this staunchly Republic state crumbling into Purple…..I still retain my voting rights in AZ….Ducey has made a great stand and I will support him.

Yes, I remember your Dad’s story. I hope your investigation and legal pursuits are bearing fruit.

Every state is turning purple. It’s not just the continuous creation of new drones in the indoctrination centers, but the constant import of new ‘peasants’ to serve their Demokkkratic overlords.

May you and yours have a very happy 4th of July!

The city of Goodyear is still moving ahead Dan but – given the Governor’s declaration, will find it harder to move forward to actually have Nike come here.

Anyway, anyone moving to AZ must know water sources are already limited. Blessed 4th to you from here.

Governor Ducey deserves resounding applause and shouts of Bravo. Finally, a man, a leader who does not kowtow to Nike and its pet mascot, the poster boy of hatred and anti-American vitriol, Kaepernick. One would hope it may inspire or instill some backbone in other leaders; I, for one, would not lay a wager on it.

As mentioned by Halal Bacon, Nike with all its self-aggrandizing and self-righteousness is an advocate and partaker in slavery, as are numerous providers of what some perceive as consumerism’s cultural icons.

Regarding Kaepernick, he confirms that as a has been, a squeaky-wheel, a cry-baby, and unabashed racist pays dividends with the likes of Nike and other consumer icon product lines.

Stop bitching. If you object to Nike’s decisions, stop buying their products. They have plenty of competitors that would love your business. Personally, I’ve never owned Nike shoes and now I’m sure I never will.

It looks like a nice design. Kinda like it.

That said, why are they so afraid of Negroes? You feed and freed them or what they call “FREEDING” the Negroes. They OWE you.

Without you or America the Negroes would be starving and naked. Since they do not invent or build anything all that they have come from white people.

Do not fear the Negro. He is an arrogant WAYCIST!

Until yesterday, I was under the impression that Doug Ducey was another RINO, like John S. McCain, III. I live in Arizona, and I think I will vote for his reelection.

In the meantime, Nike may end up offending all Americans (except MarxiCrats and “instant voters” from across the border) by producing red sneakers with a bright yellow hammer & sickle emblem on the heel.

We should all boycott Nike. They make athletic equipment and create suitable (if overpriced) sportswear. They take an object that cost little money because of where it was made, (cheap labor, as well as child labor) and sell it for outrageous prices. That is business, and it is very profitable.
Then comes marketing. Years ago, when I was weightlifting, a Nike representative approached me and offered a sponsorship. I thought I was too old to do anybody’s advertising and declined. Others apparently didn’t.
If we have a product to be sold, do we need to have celebrity endorsements on political matters? I don’t agree with this principle. Sell the shoe, or the shirt, based on it being the best in class.
Nike is wrong. Kaepernick has been a loser since birth. His birth parents didn’t want him, but he was adopted by some good people instead. That should have left him feeling fortunate, but he resents the fact that he can’t have everything he wants just because he wants it. Sorry, but that is life.
To Nike, I say, “Shame on You.” If you went bankrupt, it is because you chose the wrong thing to endorse. You decided to take the opinion of a loser and stand with it. He is falling and has been since he flipped off America. You took a hit along with him, but you came back when we forgot about him. Now you both are back in public, and I urge you to cut your ties with him. You are still a big, wealthy company, making money off the backs of near-slaves, and you should be satiated, but you deserve whatever ill comes your way. Many people stopped wearing Nike a long time ago, and more will follow.
