New border surge prompts 10% jump in 2019 prediction to 1,072,000 illegal immigrants
Calling the surprising May surge in illegal immigrant arrests on the border the “worst case scenario,” a top immigration analyst has boosted the expected level of crossings 10%, to over 1 million.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection on Wednesday revealed that May apprehensions topped 144,000. This year has seen 676,315 apprehensions so far, up 99% over this time last year.
Story continues below advertisementThat shocked immigration officials who had hoped it would drop in part due to the Trump administration’s get tough efforts on the border and the potentially deadly heat migrants encounter traveling through northern Mexico.
Steven Kopits, the president of Princeton Policy Advisors which has predicted that immigrant apprehensions would reach 931,000 this year, expressed concern about the May numbers and boosted his prediction to 1,072,000.
“This is the highest for the month of May since 2000 and the highest for any calendar month since March 2006,” he said in a report provided to Secrets.
“We had expected a major surge heading into the summer months, but this is above our worst case scenario,” he added.
And it could go up again if his predictions of high June illegal crossings comes true.
“Forecasting remains a challenge, but our current estimates, allowing for seasonal fluctuations, projects 1,072,000 apprehensions at the southwest border for calendar year 2019. This would be the highest full year since 2005,” he said.
“No doubt President Trump had a sense of these numbers a few days ago, hence the Mexico tariff initiative. Notwithstanding, we expect a similarly bad June,” Kopits added.

In response to the crisis, President Donald Trump’s administration is moving forward with a plan for large-scale deportations. The proposal would address a current problem area — migrant families who fail to attend their court dates, when they would learn their asylum claims have been denied and be ordered for deportation.

Morgan was clear: “That will include families.”
While ICE will not target families per se, Morgan was clear that no classification of unauthorized immigrants would escape the new operation by means of an exemption.“I think that a significant incentive there is the fact that once you’re here and you’ve gone through the entire due process in this country and you’ve received a final order of deportation … We’re in a position where we need to enforce that to disincentivize these individuals from taking that trip, exploiting the loopholes, and entering our country illegally,” Morgan said.
ICE’s resources are “strained” and the agency is consistently housing more than maximum capacity.
Of course, the left will complain that any reform is evil. Sending them back is “xenophobic.” Keeping them here is “heartless.” Spreading them around is “bigoted.” Tightening the ports of entry is “racist.”
But the truth is that until we address the number of entrants, the drain on resources and over-capacity centers will continue to run at crisis levels.

I have been following Trump on this, and he IS DOING WHAT HE CAN DO ABOUT ABOUT OUR INVASION! In my deep blue state, NJ, we don’t have to declare we are one – we are without announcing it. So YES, we are paying close attention to this and looking for needed relief! I don’t want that endless shiiiiit residing in in my state and paying for them. I am just as pissed as the next person if not more so. Department of Homeland Security nearly doubled the number of H-2B seasonal employment visas available to foreign workers this summer — adding 30,000 to 33,000 already planned. A week later, at the California border, he told migrants that the United States “can’t take you anymore. Our country is full.”
Yes, additional visas will go only to returning H-2B workers who have worked in the U.S. in the past three years. But the Trump administration’s decision to offer more of these seasonal visas than they have in past years — in non-agriculture blue-collar positions, often in the visitor industry — shows the nation isn’t “full.” Employers’ demand is so great that they had submitted requests for nearly 100,000 workers five minutes after they could do so, crashing the system, per The Boston Globe.

The Trump administration’s efforts to change the H-1B program and encourage hiring more U.S. workers don’t appear to be having much effect on demand for the skilled guestworker visas.
The number of petitions submitted for this year reached 201,011, about a 6 percent increase from the 190,098 submitted last year. The rise in petitions, the first in three years, came despite a dramatic uptick in the number of H-1B denials in recent months.
All employers seeking H-1B visas send in their petitions the first week of April, the soonest allowed under the law, because the visas run out so quickly.
Figures show that demand for the visas, a staple of the tech industry, remains high despite the administration’s attempt to scale back the program and encourage the hiring of U.S. workers. Employers such as Amazon Inc., Microsoft Corp., and Alphabet Inc.’s Google. also continue to request the visas in massive numbers despite H-1B supply remaining at 85,000 visas per year.
“The H-1B program is still alive and well,” and the administration “hasn’t done anything to cut it back sharply,” said David North, a fellow with the Center for Immigration Studies and former official in the Johnson administration.

The word on the street is that those engines will now be made in Mexico.

A country can fall very quickly under these circumstances. Obama has also purged allot of military generals too….the lefties are running that show. The are determined to disarm us – Red Flag laws are the next effort. Who’d want a JUDGE determining if you have the right to own a gun?
Our police aren’t all on the level either and our judges are very corrupt. I also have no confidence in our Supreme Court. Not hearing cases on free speech and other issues is not encouraging. Trump has quite a WAR on his hands and few in the swamp support him and why we are in the condition we are in. Every time Trump does something, he is blocked by the swamp or a liberal judge and the Supreme Court picks and chooses what they will hear. If they don’t hear it the lower court gets standing. In my eyes they are becoming useless prima donnas.
4 years agoAs bad as those figures are, pro rata, they’re not as bad as those in UK, but as in all these cases, if the political will is there to stop this, then so is the solution.
In my old home town recently, raids by immigration officers aided by the plod are more frequent that I have ever known them and the favorite businesses seem to be take away food shops, ethnic run curry restaurants, nail bars and building sites.
However as we understand, the proper way to manage human migration is through controlled immigration through secure borders, the very opposite of what the U.N, globalists and Soros demand.
Should business interests conspire with the deep state to frustrate corrections voted for by the people, those to blame must be exposed and held to account to the people they’ve betrayed.
