Austrian lawmakers have approved plans to ban girls in primary schools from wearing headscarves, a move that would add to existing restrictions on veils.
Members of the governing coalition of Chancellor Sebastian Kurz’s conservative People’s Party and the anti-migration Freedom Party supported the measure late on Wednesday.
Kurz’s party conceded that the new headscarf ban is likely to face challenges at Austria’s Constitutional Court.
The parties who proposed it openly admitted that the measure is ‘specifically targeted at Muslim girls’.

The measure bans wearing ‘ideologically or religiously characterized clothing’ that covers the head, and specifies that it refers to items ‘that cover the whole or large parts of the hair.’
Mr Kurz’s government introduced a ban on burkas and other full-face coverings in 2017. The new ban is seen as an extension of the current restrictions.
Austria’s previous government prohibited full-face veils in courts, schools and other ‘public places’ and banned police officers, judges, magistrates and public prosecutors from wearing headscarves.
In June last year Austria’s government announced the closure of seven mosques and plans to expel imams in a crackdown on ‘political Islam’ and foreign financing of religious groups.
Chancellor Sebastian Kurz shut a hardline Turkish nationalist mosque in Vienna and dissolved a group called the Arab Religious Community that runs six mosques.

The rules will ban ‘ideologically or religiously characterized clothing’ from schools including yarmulkes
Interior Minister Herbert Kickl said the residence permits of around 40 imams employed by ATIB, a group that oversees Turkish mosques in Austria, were under review.
The conservative Kurz became chancellor in December 2017 in a coalition with the anti-migration Freedom Party.
In campaigning for the 2017 election, both coalition parties called for tougher immigration controls, quick deportations of asylum-seekers whose requests are denied and a crackdown on radical Islam.
‘Parallel societies, political Islam and tendencies toward radicalization have no place in our country,’ Kurz told reporters in Vienna. He added that the government’s powers to intervene ‘were not sufficiently used’ in the past.

While on the face of it this seems a good idea, the proposal has to go before the Austrian court {before some Islamic group appeals to the ECHR} so there are two good chances it may be thrown out.
If our ambitions to curb Islam and muslims are to be realised, we have to become smarter. In England, a party the state didn’t like was prosecuted for wearing “uniforms” {which consisted of a badge and bomber jacket worn with a wooly hat}.
The excuse to ban their anti sharia patrols was that “uniform”, it was portrayed as being akin to black shirts appearance.
Using the broad brush as Kurz is doing invites a refusal because Christians, Jews and Sikhs are not the problem in Austria, muslims are, so why not refer to the Koranic mandate and point to the fact that such clothing when worn by muslims indicates an individual’s surrender to Islamic theology based as it is on violence and deceit, therefore the person has by their appearance stated their rejection of secular law and all Austrian social norms ?
That fact should be viewed by the state as a fact and not a subjective opinion, muslims certainly regard their clothing seriously in such a way.
How sweet would it feel to use their compliance to Islamic norms to frustrate and illuminate their ambitions – before blocking them as a threat to the state and peoples security ?

Poppey, it does not necessarily indicate any such thing. Matters of dress are highly individual. and often reflect what a person is used to. Some cultural Moslems do not buy into the surpremacy that inheres in Islamic canon.
I grew up on the edge of the Amish country in Pennsylvania. In my elementary school, Amish girls routinely wore bonnets. I don’t think anyone thought much of them one way or other, except perhaps as a curiousity. In my mind, the hajib should be legal- the burka, nyet.

Austria and Hungary once joined in a common empire are leading the way in making it difficult if not impossible for Muslims to colonize their nations. They are welcome to assimilate and become Hungarians or Austrians but not to invade,terrorise and conquer. The Poles on the other hand together with the Lithuanians so not allow them to enter, period. Hopefully, after next week the EU will not be so friendly to allowing the invaders to continue landing on their shores and showing those who have a way to return home.

Muslims are targeting females from childhood forward with degrading, abusive, psychologically violent ideas and practices.
These degrading and humiliating clothing items are a part of that. Islam should be criminalized behavior. Legalizing abuse of females through religious”freedoms” is unacceptable. It’s a hate crime against women, children, and non-muslims.
