Federal prosecutors charged Abdirizak Jaji a former FBI translator with lying about contacts with the subject of a terror investigation, the Justice Department announced Monday.
A Virginia man who previously served as a linguist for the FBI was arrested Saturday night on charges of obstructing a federal investigation and making multiple false statements to FBI officials.
According to court documents, Abdirizak Jaji Raghe Wehelie, aka Haji Raghe, 66, of Burke, was a federal contractor for the FBI and worked as a linguist translating communications captured by court-authorized surveillance of a suspect (Person A) in a terrorism investigation. Wehelie allegedly intentionally misidentified his own voice that was captured when Person A left a voicemail message on Wehelie’s mobile telephone,” the US Attorney’s office in the Eastern District of Virginia stated in a press release.
Story continues below advertisementIn other words, Haji Raghe, who was hired by the FBI to translate wiretaps, was actually caught up in a wiretap talking to a suspected Al-Shabaab terrorist — then lied to the feds about it.
It gets worse.
It turns out Abdirizak Jaji Raghe Wehelie, aka Haji Raghe joined terror-tied CAIR [Council on American Islamic Relations] in their campaign to shut down the US government’s terrorist screening database.
Last summer, CAIR sued the Trump Administration on behalf of the Wehelie family with the goal of shutting down various counter-terrorism efforts by the US government such the terrorist screening database used by US CBP to vet people passing through US borders.
CAIR is fighting to abolish this very important screening database and argued the Wehelie family is being unfairly targeted by the feds.
A law enforcement official said that one of Wehelie’s sons, Yusuf Abdirizak Wehelie, in July 2017 was jailed for 10 years after pleading guilty to felony firearms possession charges.
In a court filing, prosecutors said Yusuf Wehelie had told an undercover investigator that he was interested in joining the Islamic State movement and that, if he could not travel overseas to do that, he had considered launching an attack on a US military recruiting station. After pleading guilty, Yusuf Wehelie was sentenced to 10 years in prison. (more here)

Former FBI Linguist Haji Raghe Arrested in Terrorism Investigation

A 66-year-old former linguist for the FBI was arrested Saturday on allegations of misidentifying his own voice from a recording in a terror investigation.
Abdirizak Jaji Raghe Wehelie, also known as Haji Raghe, worked as a federal contractor providing his services as a linguist to the FBI. The U.S. Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of Virginia, announced Monday Wehelie’s arrest on charges of making multiple false statements to government officials and obstruction of a federal investigation.
Court documents state that Wehelie was “translating communications captured by court-authorized surveillance of a suspect (Person A) in a terrorism investigation,” according to the USAO release.
“Wehelie allegedly intentionally misidentified his own voice that was captured when Person A left a voicemail message on Wehelie’s mobile telephone,” the release continued. “When questioned by FBI investigators about this particular incident, Wehelie made several misleading and/or false statements.”
Wehelie was scheduled to appear in court Monday afternoon.
If convicted, Wehelie faces up to 25 years in prison.

Zebiba is a dark dot or circle intentionally marked on the forehead by radical Muslims to show the world how devoted Muslims they are, meaning they are constantly praying with their forehead to the ground making this mark a sign of Islamic devotion. Wow- I am honored!
I have noted on this site a number of times how impressed I am with people like yourself who have transcended the bounds of the Islam they grew up with, and I have used you as an example when trying to make the point how difficult and costly it can be to break that tie. I doubt I could have done as well.
I am grateful for your presence on this site and your participation in AFDI and I grieve for the people of Muslim world who are mislead by a tragic tradition and corrupt, manipulative leaders.
I encourage all here to read (and buy!) some of Nonie’s books- Now They Call Me Infidel particularly impressed me.

Life in Prison and bacon for breakfast. When I ran a program at Camp Atterbury, Indiana, the Feds would bring in Iraqi troops and others to train up our troops, They hated America and said so. They got to stay in Country if they wanted after the training contracts were over. They NSA,CIA ect would recruit translators from these folks they brought in. When I contacted the Army Command about these issues were, their response was; you like your job, shut up or leave. I left and moved to North Idaho. Great place to hang your hat.
