President Donald Trump turned up the pressure on Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar Tuesday, demanding the first-term lawmaker resign over her Twitter comments that many of her own colleagues called anti-Semitic.
Story continues below advertisement‘I think she should either resign from congress or she should certainly resign from the House Foreign Affairs Committee,’ Trump said – stoking a controversy that prompted senior Democrats and party leaders blasting Omar’s comments about Israel.
Speaking at the top of a meeting with his cabinet, Trump said Omar’s comments were ‘deep seeded in her heart.’ He also called her apology, issued Monday after the entire Democratic leadership issued a statement condemning her comments, ‘lame.’

Omar apologized ‘unequivocally,’ she said. But she added: ‘At the same time, I reaffirm the problematic role lobbyists in our politics, whether it be AIPAC, the NRA or the fossil fuel industry.’
One of the tweets that drew criticism was her one word tweet: ‘AIPAC!’ which referenced the powerful American Israel PAC. She also tweeted ‘all about the Benjamins’ – in comments colleagues said made it seem Israel supporters adopted their positions for cash.
Trump also weighed in on the controversy swirling around Rep. Ilhan Omar Monday night, saying the first-term lawmaker ‘should be ashamed of herself’ for her ‘all about the Benjamins’ comment.
‘I think she should be ashamed of herself. I think it was a terrible statement. And I don’t think her apology was adequate, the president told reporters aboard Air Force Once en route to a Texas campaign rally.
Trump spoke hours after the lawmaker apologized facing a flood of criticism, following a flood of criticism from both Republicans and Democrats in Congress, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Asked what Ilhan should she say, Trump responded: ‘She knows what to say,’ without commenting further. It was the only part of a discussion with reporters the White House allowed on record – reflecting the political potency of the clash and Trump’s desire to weigh in.
Omar, a Minnesota Democrat, apologized for using old anti-Semitic tropes about Jews and money in recent tweets – a move that comes after a phone call with Speaker Nancy Pelosi and a statement from the entire party leadership team blasting the freshman lawmaker.
‘Anti-Semitism is real and I am grateful for Jewish allies and colleagues who are educating me on the painful history of anti-Semitic tropes,’ Omar said in a statement Monday afternoon.
‘My intention is never to offend my constituents or Jewish Americans as a whole,’ she added. ‘We have to always be willing to step back and think through criticism, just as I expect people to hear me when others attack me for my identity. This is why I unequivocally apologize.’

Omar, however, stuck to her guns in blasting the problems of lobbyists and their financial influence in politics.
‘At the same time, I reaffirm the problematic role lobbyists in our politics, whether it be AIPAC, the NRA or the fossil fuel industry. It’s gone on too long and we must be willing to address it,’ Omar said. She tweeted out her statement with the words: ‘Listening and learning, but standing strong.’
The freshman Democrat caused outrage with a tweet Sunday night linking support for Israel to financial contributions with her words: ‘It’s all about the Benjamins.’
Pelosi and her entire leadership team issued a blistering statement after Omar, in her first months in office, penned successive tweets on matter.
‘Anti-Semitism must be called out, confronted and condemned whenever it is encountered, without exception,’ Pelosi and her team wrote.
‘We are and will always be strong supporters of Israel in Congress because we understand that our support is based on shared values and strategic interests. Legitimate criticism of Israel’s policies is protected by the values of free speech and democratic debate that the United States and Israel share. But Congresswoman Omar’s use of anti-Semitic tropes and prejudicial accusations about Israel’s supporters is deeply offensive. We condemn these remarks and we call upon Congresswoman Omar to immediately apologize for these hurtful comments.’

Well, consider that the call is from Trump, and Democrats were largely elected on a mandate to oppose Trump on issues like this. The issue of Israel has become more partisan than many would like to admit. What Trump is saying is that merely criticizing Israel must be banned.

The reason Congress is generally supportive toward Israel is simple: Americans support Israel.

There are five reasons Americans like Israel. One is the same reason predominantly Christian nations around the world admire Israel: the Bible identifies Israel as the land of the Jewish people.
Americans, as a more devout nation than most in the western world, tend to feel that connection more strongly. America’s founders also saw themselves building a new Israel, and some early U.S. leaders hoped to see the Jewish state restored in its ancient land one day.
A second reason is that Americans see our country as having a positive mission in the world. The Second World War, and the horrors of the Holocaust, convinced many — including some formerly skeptical American Jewish leaders — that Jews needed a state to survive.
The Holocaust is not the reason Israel exists — the foundations of the state were already in place — but many Americans backed Israel as a form of restorative justice.
Third, Israel has been America’s most dependable ally, to the point of putting its own citizens at risk for the sake of American security.
In the Gulf War, when Saddam Hussein rained Scud missiles down on Israel in retaliation for U.S.-led strikes on Iraq, the Israeli government obeyed the Bush administration’s request that it not strike back, so that the coalition — which included Arab states, but not Israel — could remain intact. No other country does that.
Fourth, the Israeli and American people have a genuine affinity for one another, one strengthened by political, cultural and economic ties. Israel, like the U.S., is a vibrant democracy.
Israel also has a cutting-edge high-tech sector, and Israeli firms are ubiquitous in Silicon Valley. Israeli television shows have inspired hits like Homeland, and now stream on Netflix.
Military ties have strengthened these bonds: Israeli innovations in missile defense, partly funded by the U.S., are being adopted by American forces.
Finally, the behavior of the Palestinians and their allies has driven Americans and Israelis closer together. Not only have Palestinian terrorists targeted Americans — such as Taylor Force, a U.S. army veteran killed in 2016 — but the Palestinian leaders back anti-American regimes, the latest being Nicolas Maduro’s socialist tyranny in Venezuela.
And Americans will not easily forget the sight of Palestinians dancing in the streets after the 9/11 terror attacks.

In a way it’s good that Muslims are being elected to office. This way their views become well-known to the public. Right now most people know nothing about Muslims or how they think.
All they hear about is the Muslim gang-rapes and terrorism and then there are Leftists and Muslim groups who rush to control the negative messaging to portray them as victims of mental illness.
Let’s air this out, let the enemy make themselves known to us. Only then will people realize that Muslims truly are a threat and don’t belong in the West. I think Trump did the right thing for calling her to resign, it sends a clear message we won’t tolerate anti-semites and Trump showed he’s unequivocally on the side of Israel.
The Muslims until now were pretty cocky thinking they’re getting power and would be able to shove their Jew-hating agenda down everyone’s throat. Trump just put them on notice he won’t let them get away with it.

Amusing to me that Trump wants her to resign when his Department of State is letting up to 22,000 refugees, mostly Muslims, enter the US this Fiscal year. I post this just about everyday and it is rare that anyone Up Votes it. Probably even fewer people actually have the guts to open it and see what’s in it. The Truth can be a frightening reality!

I know the point of the article was about the never ending racism of Democrat Rep. from Somalia Ilhan Omar, but I do get tired of RINO’s like Kevin McCarthy abandoning their own party members when they have done nothing wrong except have their words taken out of context and edited to appear to make them appear guilty of racism when their lives testify to that not being true.
