NY Sheikh: Wife-Beating Only Permissible To Hurt The Wife’s Dignity

During a December 9, 2018 lecture in the Muslim Center of New York in Flushing, Queens, Sheikh Yaser Nadeem Al-Wajdi discussed wife-beating in Islam and said that it is only permissible under very rare circumstances, such as when a woman is being disloyal, and her husband doesn’t want to seek separation or Islamic legal action for the sake of the children. In such situations, Sheikh Al-Wajdi said, the husband must first admonish his wife verbally, and then he must leave the conjugal bed. After these steps, he may strike her using a miswak (dental twig) in a fashion that is not hard and that is meant to hurt her dignity. The lecture was streamed live on the Muslim Center of New York’s Facebook page. Sheikh Al-Wajdi is the director of Darul Uloom Online and the Dean of Academic Affairs at the Illinois-based Institute of Islamic Education. He was educated in Pakistan, India, and the United States.

Sheikh Yaser Al-Wajdi: “[In the Quran,] Allah mentioned beating [one’s wife]. The first step is to admonish them. You admonish them, you warn them. You leave them in bed. The third thing is to strike them. But this person jumps to the third stage, as soon as he feels that his wife is opposing him. He forgets about admonishing her and leaving her bed, and he forgets the correct interpretation of this verse. He thinks: ‘By getting married to this lady, I have a license to treat her however I want. I have a license to beat her, abandon her in bed, and I have a license to treat her as my slave.’ That is completely wrong.

“What is the purpose of not beating them hard? It is so that it doesn’t hurt her physically. Rather, it hurts her dignity. It targets her dignity.

“Allah says: ‘As of those women from whom you fear their disloyalty…’ The Prophet Muhammad said that if they commit an obvious sin, then you have the authority to go through these stages.

“Therefore, if a husband feels that his wife is cheating on him… That is of the rarest of the rare situations. So what are his options? And [if] she has gone to the last stage in this deception… What are his options? Imagine, if there are Islamic laws in place – then the first option is… If he has witnesses, of course, then he can report to the authorities. Those four witnesses will go to the court, they will testify, and she will be punished. If that’s the case.

“But in some situations it happens that the husband sometimes [makes] sacrifices. Why? Because he has little children. He thinks: “Of course I can go to the court anytime and seek separation, but what will happen to the children?” Their mother has to take care of them.

“The first stage is… If you really want to sacrifice and continue living with your wife, for the sake of your children or for any other reason… Admonish her. Try to warn her. Tell her not to do it again. If you don’t want to take the legal route. If she doesn’t stop, leave her in bed. If that doesn’t work out, beat her. [Do it in a fashion] that is not hard, with amiswak [dental twig]. Alright? The purpose of using a miswak is so that her dignity is hurt and she realizes that she is making a big mistake. “Beat them” doesn’t mean that you start taking a whip and beating her. That is not permissible at all.

“If hitting and beating wives was permissible, as some modernists, liberals, orientalists, non-Muslims accuse… They say that Islam, because of this verse, allows domestic violence. If it was permissible, the Prophet Muhammad would have done it. It is not permissible. That is why the Prophet Muhammad didn’t do it.”

Interesting. In Christianity, repentance is a return to dignity. In Islam they choose to subjugate into indignity. I believe that’s called mirroring.

.I view Islam as a proud and arrogant competition for who can be more evil than another and advertising it for praise. Islam is motivated by evil and genuine Christianity is motivated for good. Repentance is more of a humbling experience for a Christian whereas Islam maybe similar but their way of atoning is to do something evil like jihad to please Allah.
For me, I don’t care what flavor of Islam it is, I don’t want more of it here and would love all of it to be deported. I also want us out of the middle east. Nothing good ever comes from Islam, ever!

Males beating females is disgusting.
No matter how butch a female wants to believe she is, she stands no chance against a male when it comes to physical strength. It’s a joke. She can not compete with the upper body strength of a male. This is why, with the exception of the Marines and Seals, females are allowed “girl push ups and “girl” chin ups.. In the military females are constantly getting pelvic injuries. The female pelvic area is different that the male pelvic area. . The female pelvic area is designed for having children – not load bearing. These are just biological facts.
Women can do lots of things but physically there is no competition with a male. The emotional temperament is also different. Unaltered males and unaltered females complement each other! Males don’t make good “females” either… The gender blending and role reversal is not working.

Their temperament is different. It’s really a shame how they are damaging women emotionally and physically with thus fantasy of treating them like men and men being suppressed to be like women.
There is another problem the military doesn’t want to talk about and they are at loose ends on how to deal with it. Whether it is a homosexual male or a homosexual female, one will always play the “male” role and the other one plays the “female” role in a same sex attraction. They try to imitate a heterosexual relationship. The problem is the aggressive one in the same sex relationship. They intimidate the same sex person playing the “female” role. Essentially they bully them.
LBGT has no place in the military and promoting people based on that will eventually be disastrous. It has to be based on merit for a positive impact and not sexual preference or gender. These people have issues. It’s distracting and takes away from cohesion.
Hitler’s SA had allot of homosexuals in it. Rohm was a homosexual and headed the SA. Himmler headed the SS. Rohm promoted men based on sexual prowess and he also had a more Trotskyist ideology than Himmler. To make a long story short, Himmler out maneuvered him. Hitler had Rohm murdered and cleaned out the homosexuals. Bottom line it, it doesn’t work. Due to political correctness, other sources do indicate his homosexuality bothered Himmler. Hitler know about it but didn’t care about that in the beginning.

I used to know an IDF solider who fought in the Yom Kippur War, his wife, who had also had served in the IDF was some sort of sniper, but I’m not sure if she ever saw combat.

A 14-year-old Finnish girl committed suicide after being raped by muslims (iraqi asylum seekers). This took place last fall. The MS media was silent on this sad case until last Friday, January 11. The Hadiths give a number of instances of Muhammad’s brutality toward women, including his wife Aisha (married at six) :
Sahih Muslim (4:2127) – Muhammad struck his favorite wife, Aisha, in the chest one evening when she left the house without his permission. Aisha narrates, “He struck me on the chest which caused me pain.”
Sahih Bukhari (72:715) – A woman came to Muhammad and begged him to stop her husband from beating her. Her skin was bruised so badly that it is described as being “greener” than the green veil she was wearing. Muhammad did not admonish her husband, but instead ordered her to return to him and submit to his sexual desires.
