Fake News: NBC Spreads False Claim President Trump Did Not Visit Troops at Christmastime

This is what they do. They’re so mad to destroy Trump, they don’t care how many lies they tell. In reality, the Trumps visited the troops in Iraq, and were greeted enthusiastically. These kind of trips take weeks to plan, but the NBC News producers don’t care about the truth at all: “NBC has yet to retract its demonstrably fake headline, and has left the fake story up on its website as of publication of this article.” If they make people hate Trump, it will be mission accomplished for them.

“Fake News: NBC Spreads False Claim President Trump Did Not Visit Troops at ‘Christmastime,’” by Matthew Boyle, Breitbart, December 26, 2018:

NBC News and a variety of other media outlets falsely reported that President Donald Trump did not visit U.S. troops in a combat zone during Christmastime. NBC has yet to retract its demonstrably fake headline, and has left the fake story up on its website as of publication of this article.

Story continues below advertisement

On Wednesday afternoon, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders confirmed that President Trump and first lady Melania Trump made a surprise secret Christmas visit to U.S. troops in Iraq.

It is customary for the White House to be secretive when it comes to presidential travel to war-torn areas and active combat zones. The White House did not confirm the trip until mid-afternoon on Wednesday.

In the White House press pool report from Time Magazine’s Brian Bennett, filed from Iraq, he notes that the president left the White House late on Christmas night and arrived in Iraq on Wednesday.

“President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump made a surprise trip to see U.S. combat troops in Iraq on the day after Christmas,” Bennett wrote. “Trump left the White House late on Dec. 25 for an unannounced movement to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland. Pool was prepositioned on the plane and did not see Trump board. Air Force One was wheels up at 12:06 am ET on Dec. 26. POTUS landed at 11:16 am ET/ 7:16 pm local time at Al Asad Air Base, a joint U.S.-Iraqi military base west of Baghdad.”

He also noted that the White House had embargoed the details of the trip until after Trump gave remarks to troops:

The details of the trip were embargoed until POTUS had finished giving remarks to a group of about 100 mostly U.S. special operations troops engaged in combat operations in Iraq and Syria.

But, a variety of media outlets–chief among them NBC News–jumped the gun and on Tuesday published critiques of Trump for not visiting the troops.

“Trump becomes first president since 2002 not to visit troops at Christmastime,” was the headline on an NBC News article from reporter Elyse Perlmutter-Gumbiner.

The sub-headline of the story reads: “Though he called military personnel on Tuesday, Trump did not visit a hospital or a military base.”

The article itself goes even further and says that Trump did not visit troops or wounded warriors this year–after having visited wounded warriors at Walter Reed last year–at all during Christmastime:

On Christmas Day, President Donald Trump took part in a long-running practice of presidents who called troops stationed around the country and the world.

But he broke from a recent tradition of actually visiting troops and wounded warriors. He did so in 2017, when he visited wounded troops at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Dec. 21 (and invited Coast Guard service members to play golf at his course in West Palm Beach, Florida).

By staying home on Tuesday, Trump became the first president since 2002 who didn’t visit military personnel around Christmastime.

After the White House confirmed that President Trump was indeed in Iraq with the first lady, per the White House’s Sanders, NBC News added an “Editor’s Note” to Perlmutter-Gumbiner’s article that says: “On Wednesday, a day after this article was published, President Trump made a surprise visit to Iraq to greet U.S. troops. It was his first presidential visit to a combat zone.”

There are a number of problematic things with the way NBC News has handled this problem. First and foremost, the outlet’s own editor’s note disproves both the headline and sub-headline of the article–as well as key sentences from it.

Even though Trump did not get there until Wednesday, NBC News’s headline that Trump did not visit military personnel at “Christmastime” is patently false–as is the statement in the last sentence of the above-captioned piece of the story. Arguing that the day after Christmas is not still “Christmastime” is frankly silly and will not work as a defense for NBC News.

A spokeswoman for NBC News has not returned a request for comment on if NBC will be retracting the inaccurate headline, and has not answered which editors and NBC personnel were involved in the printing of this inaccuracy. It also remains to be seen if the reporter and other personnel involved in the printing of this inaccuracy will face any kind of consequences for pushing out demonstrably fake news, another question to which the NBC spokeswoman has not replied.

The consequences of spreading inaccurate information like NBC News did here are dire–the fake anti-Trump stories spread into several other media outlets after NBC pushed out its fake story. They include leftist websites Salon.com, Talking Points Memo, and the Huffington Post, in addition to articles in The Hill newspaper, NewsMax, Newsweek, and People magazine–among others. All of the other outlets that printed the fake story relied on NBC News as their main source for the piece.

Several of them have added updates reflecting the fact that the original reporting from NBC News was inaccurate….

As is usual, the only adults in the room are on the right.

My first comment was whisked away. I say that is quite obnoxious.
I had attempted to say that NBC’s actions were disgusting. I certainly hope they rescind their former narrative and headlines, with which they aspired to beat up on the President, and do the right thing, by apologizing and reporting the TRUTH!

I liked that they think the Obama’s taking time away from their $4 million Hawaii vacations each year for a photo op with the troops stationed there qualified as a real visit. They might as well have pointed out all the times he “visited” the troops on the golf course. Of course, by “visit” we mean kicking them off the golf course while BO and his chum gang got the whole facility to themselves and the secret service watchdogs.

Keep in mind too that the Trumps are staying in Washington while the government is in partial shutdown, while he waits for Dems to get him the funding bill with his fence included. Obama never let his job working for the people get in the way of a vacation, golf or photo op. He couldn’t even let the kidnapping and death of an Ambassador get in the way of his sleep and an early morning campaign stop.

Trump can wait forever! He might even see a budget passed over his veto.

Fake news what is it? Trump used that word inflationary, while allowing the spread of real fake news.
The disastrous effect of fake news is Wikipedia, social media, media, education institutions, Army & prisons being controlled & censored by Muhammadists.
Atheists must reject an inferior role, reject a sub-status under Muhammadists & reject a superior role of Muhammadists who try to impose the unjust Muhammad-law on humanity. We must uphold the law of love & ecology worldwide & prosecute Muhammadists worldwide for their clitodirectomy, slavery, enslavement of Africans, killings, detainments, extortion, torture & censorship.
We should utilize armed drones where ever possible to prevent endangering soldiers.
Trump sold wepaons to Saudi Arabia where Africans are enslaved because of unjust Muhammad who started the global African slave-trade by saying his unproven deity had turned Africans black so the African’s descendants would be slaves to Arabs & Turks.
Let’s abolish the Muhammadist tyrannies,
let’s free the atheists from Muhammadist prisons in Saudi Arabia & elsewhere,
let’s liberate society, social media, education institutions & media from the interference of Muhammadist censors & obfuscators,
& let’s protect girls from the Muhammad-commanded lifelong torture of cutting off of clitorisses, forced marriage & rape.

At the time of the story, NBC was right. It changed later, but it was correct to that point. Additionally, Trump used this as a campaign stop photo op; otherwise, why take along Sarah Sanders?

TM…for what is an apology owed?

Another Trump basher, I see. Well, I have to say, at least it’s a pleasure to see a beautiful First Lady, instead of an “ ape in heels.”

Ape in heels? DOES NOT EXIST! Too bad you’re not shot dead for lying.

Oh, I’m sorry. I meant to say, “Obamasow in heels.” Why do so many Trump bashers react with threats of violence? Why is it okay for the negro to bash Whitey, but racism for Whitey to bash the negro?

That’s not racism. Name calling warrants a violent response; otherwise, civility ends.

If you’re tolerant of everything, you tolerate lawlessness. I am proud of intolerance. My response wasn’t leftist.

NBC won’t retract or change this story. Of course, they probably still doubt that the moon landing was real.

Exactly when and by what means is this repetitive story going to change? I have no clue.

MSM FOOL of hatred for Donald Trump cannot even get the dates right.

Anyway, he’s so valuable, right now. HE SHOULD keep people guessing the dates so the “traditions” keep our enemies guessing.

But MSNBC decided to deride him, anyway.

If it was their dear Nerogro you would hear endless stories at how clever the Negro is and it’s always Christmas time when the Negro visits you. Oh, we should be so lucky. Even if it’s July.

It looks as if NBC has cast itself in the same role as that of a Russian historian whose main job is to predict the past.

Don’t news media(s) have to report the truth or be held for liable if they don’t? Seems that freedom of the press applies only to that which is truthful and accurate.
