Major Facebook Shareholders Join Call To Boot Mark Zuckerberg As Chairman

Mark Zuckerberg’s forehead is likely a little more moist than usual this afternoon. On Wednesday, several major public funds issued a statement backing a push to remove the Facebook founder from his position as chairman of the board. Amid countless scandals and a steadily dropping stock price, the effort would be all but certain to succeed at any other company.

This morning, the state treasurers of Rhode Island, Illinois, and Pennsylvania joined forces with the comptroller of New York City to sign on to a proposal first issued by Trillium Asset Management in June. Between them, the officials control hundreds of billions of dollars in state investments and pension funds. They are requesting that Facebook’s shareholders consider replacing Zuckerberg with an independent chairman.

In the statement, they highlighted the fact that 59 per cent of companies on the S&P 1500 separate the roles of the CEO and chairman in order to provide true independent oversight of corporate governance. They also said that this oversight is needed because Facebook has mishandled “a number of severe controversies.” The incomplete list of recent scandals they provided includes:

• Russia “meddling in U.S. elections” on Facebook
• The “sharing personal data of 87 million users” that later found its way to Cambridge Analytica
• “Data-sharing with device manufacturers, including Huawei,” which U.S. intelligence has identified (with little public evidence) as a threat to national security
• The proliferation of “fake news” on its platform
• The propagation of posts on its platform that fuelled violence in Myanmar, India, and South Sudan
• “Depression and other mental health issues, including stress and addiction,” that may result from using Facebook
• “Allowing advertisers to exclude black, Hispanic, and other ‘ethnic affinities’ from seeing ads”

If the letter had been released just a few hours later, the list could’ve included today’s news that Facebook allegedly inflated video metrics intentionally, thus deceiving advertisers and convincing media companies to invest heavily in video departments, according to documents newly filed as part of a potential class-action lawsuit. Facebook has denied any wrongdoing.

In a separate statement, New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer said, “We need Facebook’s insular boardroom to make a serious commitment to addressing real risks – reputational, regulatory, and the risk to our democracy – that impact the company, its shareowners, and ultimately the hard-earned pensions of thousands of New York City workers.” According to the Wall Street Journal, NYC’s pension fund held 4.7 million Facebook shares as of March 31, which would currently be valued at around $US745 ($1,048) million. The other three state officials oversee about $US32 ($45) million worth of Facebook stock.

Aside from a few upticks, Facebook’s stock price has been in decline since July 25, falling from an all-time high of $US217 ($305) per share to the current $US158 ($222) per share. While the company’s most recent scandals (including a massive data breach) might have something to do with that decline, it’s also just a fact that Facebook is running out of people to bring in as new users and fuel growth.

We reached out to Facebook for comment on this story but did not receive an immediate reply.

Whether or not this proposal receives overwhelming shareholder support is almost completely inconsequential. Because of a special structure, Zuckerberg’s shares count his vote 10 times more than other shareholders, and he currently controls about 60 per cent of the voting power at the company. It’s possible that a show of shareholder discontent could get him to step down, but it seems unlikely. In July, he spoke to Recode about all of the scandals and said, “I designed the platform, so if someone’s going to get fired for this, it should be me.” Despite the logic of that sentiment, he’s still there.

Twitter locks LifeSite out of account for ‘HATE’: FACT BASED post on RISE in GAY STDs

October 18, 2018 (LifeSiteNews) – Twitter has just locked LifeSiteNews out of our Twitter account over an article we posted four years ago that provided expert analysis on the rise in sexually-transmitted diseases among homosexuals.

The 2014 piece by Dr. Gerard M. Nadal, a molecular biologist and microbiologist who is also president and CEO of the Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer, responds to media coverage of what was at the time the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s new annual report on STDs.

Contrary to the consensus that the “reason for the documented continued rise in syphilis (primarily affecting homosexuals) has more to do with homophobia than anything else,” Dr. Nadal attributes the rise to factor such as an “upward trend in unprotected sex” and 60% of homosexual men failing to disclose their symptoms or status to sex partners.

He cited data from mainstream sources such as the CDC, a then-recent New York Times report, and a 2006 study in the journal AIDS Behavior.

On October 18, 2018, however, LifeSiteNews received the following message, notifying staff that Twitter was locking the account because the 2014 tweet sharing the story’s neutral, factual headline violated “our rules against hateful conduct,” and somehow “promote[d] violence against, threaten[ed], or harass[ed] other people on the basis of […] sexual orientation […], or serious disease.”

No further elaboration was given. A length of time for the lockout was not specified. The only recourse offered was for LifeSite to remove the tweet or start an appeal process. For the moment, LifeSite staff cannot post to or otherwise operate @LifeSite in any way.

“This total intolerance for even reporting government health dept statistics that reveal the health dangers of homosexual activity betrays what Peter Thiel, himself a homosexual, previously called a totalitarian mindset in Silicon Valley,” said Steve Jalsevac, co-founder and president of LifeSiteNews.

“Twitter is now trying to force news agencies to report only what is acceptable to their personal, biased views and shutting down balanced, factual reporting on the homosexual issue.”

“This is getting dangerous for our democracy since a free press is one of the basic and necessary foundations for a genuinely democratic society,” Jalsevac warned. “This is getting scary. It is in everyone’s interest to fight this type of action and even demand government intervention to protect our rights.”

Just the day before, former LifeSiteNews reporter and Americans For Truth About Homosexuality (AFTAH.org) president Peter LaBarbera revealed at LifeSiteNews that Twitter had recently banned him on the same grounds, over a 2016 tweet describing homosexual acts as a “sin” that “spreads disease.”

“If Twitter no longer allows its users to advocate for healthy behaviors on its platform, and to defend their sincere moral and religious beliefs–shared by billions worldwide–then it will devolve into a bland, politically correct echo-chamber,” LaBarbera warned.

15 million Muslims didn’t hijack Islam. Islam is Islam. The ones acting out Mohammad’s “example” are doing just as Islam prescribes. And oddly enough many of the “peaceful” Muslims are also acting out Mohammad’s example for their situation. True Muslims want sharia (Islamic law) implemented. These Muslims are against free speech such that any criticism of Mohammad or Islam must be met with large protests or even revenge. They don’t believe in freedom of religion and ultimately they want to subjugate all non-Muslims. These true Muslims are more than the 1% attributed to “radicalism” but are a majority of Muslims. There are polls that show that those who want various forms of sharia implemented is the majority of Muslims regardless of where they are located. Islam by its nature is first and foremost a subversive political ideology.

There is no manifesto that says tech giants must act a certain way. Having said that, the Left do have such a manifesto, Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals, which the Left seems perfectly willing to follow. It just so happens the Kommiefornia is full of Leftists and those leading and running these tech giants are full of them.

FB needs to decide if they are a publisher or a platform. Obviously, if they are a publisher, then they need to have truth in advertising. (But they have “difficulty” being honest.) If they are a platform then they need to be held accountable to be unbiased. If they are a publisher then they need to be held accountable for the content they provide which includes calls for violence by Left wing or other radical hate groups, such as various Islamic groups and other antisemitic groups.

I agree with you… these sites that claim to be impartial (but are proven not) are doing a disservice to its users. The America that made them successful is the America that they seem to fight against. They think they are fighting for American values… the problem with the Left’s “American Values” is that those values are un-American.

We are in a precarious situation where the MSM is not a neutral party and neither is the internet media (Facebook, et al.). It is really sad that the “press” does not take its responsibility to be free, as opposed to partisan, seriously. As a result, they as well as the internet media can and do control what thoughts are available and what is not. It is really sad that conservatives would hold to American principles and allow dialogue and difference of opinion while the Left will use any means necessary to take power and strip us of our God given rights that are enshrined in our Constitution and Bill of Rights. At some point, the attempted subversion by the Left must be stopped. The question is how… will it be another civil war? How horrible it must be on the Left to know they can’t compete with data and logic to win an argument on policy but instead they must rely on censorship, intimidation and force… which makes them sore losers ready to throw a tantrum at a moment’s notice whenever they think they are losing.

Facebook was a paradighm shift from other forms of communications. The concept was new, and it took off. The users never questioned who was paying for this, or how. It was too new, and nobody seemed to be able to do anything better.
I noticed, along with everybody else, there was a lot of hate, and false news coming my way. So, Community Standards” was born. The problem was, they were selective in which standards to enforce. It became obvious that Jewish and Conservative groups were policed while hate was pushed in other groups, that were not silenced. We saw the obvious bias, and it did not make sense. Why would the Jewish owner of Facebook allow blatant anti-Semitism and harmful images on these pages? Why, money, of course.
It was while serving a 30 day suspension that I realized Facebook would allow me to open a second account. While one was dormant, the other grew. And I realised that now I had twice as many accounts as before, and how many others were in the same boat? All they are doing is increasing the number of accounts, but not the number of people. As I see now, this was part of a business model. Does anybody realie exactly how many individuals have Facebook. I know people with 3-5 separate accounts. And, I know that Facebook has it’s facial recognition software working, so they have an idea of the real numbers. But it is the sheer number of accounts that is wrong, and is used to show Facebook is larger than it really is. It helps them charge a higher rate for their advertising. It is just like TV and their “Sweeps Weeks.” Boost the numbers. Cook the books. It’s a sham.
