Bob Goodlatte: ‘I will issue a subpoena’ for Rod Rosenstein

by Allison Elyse Gualtieri Washington Examiner, | October 13, 2018 09:51 AM

Rep. Bob Goodlatte said Saturday that while Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein has spoken with the White House, he still needs to speak to the House Judiciary Committee.

The Virginia Republican, who chairs the committee, said the committee has wanted to talk with Rosenstein since a New York Times story made his comments about secretly recording President Trump public. Sources alleged to the Times that Rosenstein discussed forcing Trump out of office with the 25th Amendment, which lays out how a president unfit to serve can be removed from office.

“It’s essential that we talk to him. He knows that. He has not agreed to come for a transcribed interview on the record. He needs to agree to do that. If he does not agree to do that very soon, I will issue a subpoena for him to appear,” Goodlatte said in an interview on Fox News.

Rosenstein has said his comments were not meant seriously. He met with the White House on Monday, after which Trump said he would not fire Rosenstein.

“I have heard a number of different reports. One that he didn’t say it; another that he said it and he meant it. Another that he said it in jest, another that he said it in sarcasm, which has a different connotation than making a joke of it. All of those are important to us. We need to hear his version,” Goodlatte said.

If the Republicans expect to retain House and Senate after the November 2018 election, this is the kind of offensive action that MUST take place on MANY related fronts to convince the mushy, unthinking electorate that a vote for a Demoncrat is a vote for unbridled evil.

I don’t know whether it’s possible for the Republicans to appear more gutless than they already do, but right now they appear stunningly stupid and convictionless over getting rid of Trump’s enemies in the DOJ and FBI. All we see and hear is flapping gums with hollow threats, but never any positive results. Now evident the Democrats are running the Trump Administration.

They know their hold overs in FBI / DOJ /NSC will help them out !

Unless they are totally purged including Left/Liberal judges to keep out their bias …its uphill task to prosecute them.

I would be willing to bet good money that Rosenstein’s ass is as good as gone after the mid-term elections when it will be more politically convenient and advantageous for Trump. He is as conflicted as any single person in that conspiracy to overturn the results of the 2016 election, that “insurance policy” disgraced FBI agents Strzok and Page mentioned.

Since Rosenstein refuses to appear when requested by the Judicial Committee, there is nothing else they can do to try to make him appear except to issue a subpoena. It seems to me that if he ignores that and is then charged with contempt of the Committee, President Trump can order him to appear. If Rosenstein could not convince President Trump to change his mind, then he would have no choice but to appear or be fired for insubordination. It is the perfect opportunity as long as the firing would occur immediately after midterms. Assuming the President has been thinking about firing him. Same goes for Sessions.
