Vincent van Gogh and The Girl with The Pearl Earring
at The Cafe Terrace at Night

14 x 14 van Gogh Oil painting on Canvas

Girl with a Pearl Earring is an oil painting  by Dutch Golden Age painter Johannes Vermeer and painted in 1665 in Delft Holland. It is an image of a girl wearing a headscarf and a pearl earring. The painting has been in the collection of the Mauritshuis in The Hague  since 1902.
A young woman might have sat for Vermeer, but the painting is not meant to portray her or any specific individual. Some say it was his daughter that posed but no-one is sure.

Café Terrace at Night is a 1888 oil painting by the Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh  in 1888. It is also known as The Cafe Terrace on the Place du Forum, and, when first exhibited in 1891, was entitled Coffeehouse, in the evening (Café, le soir).
"This is a night painting without black, with nothing but beautiful blue and violet and green and in this surrounding the illuminated area colors itself sulfur pale yellow and citron green." ~      Vincent van Gogh

Cafe Terrace at Night is one of my very favorite paintings of Vincent’s. I have painted it many ways several times. I thought it would be fun to have an image from a famous painting, The Girl with the Pearl Earring, visiting with Vincent at the Cafe Terrace at Night, although she was painted in 1665 ad Cafe was painted in 1888. I did try to add a bit of age to her to be more in line with Vincent. Van Gogh and Vermeer were both Dutch artists with two very distinct styles.

This is the great thing about art, I can image scenes and do what ever I want with them. This is fun painting and gives one something to think about! Can you imagine their conversation?
