CAIR is currently in the midst of a media campaign to have Municipal Court Judge Sharon Dickson fired.
This is because of statements made in the courtroom by judge Dickson while sentencing Fazial Azizan to 5 months in jail for disorderly conduct.
This story is receiving a lot of coverage on the internet.

But there is not much coverage of the court transcript. Here is how WSBTV in Atlanta reports the story:
“After Azizan said he was a political refugee, she [Dickson] unloaded on him — “I know where you came from . . . . women don’t mean anything. You need to go to jail. You are despicable to me” – WSBTV
But a reading of the court proceedings clearly shows that judge Dickson did not say what she did out of bigotry or “Islamophobia.” She was remarking on Mr. Azizan’s behavior.
“The first phrase that comes to mind and that has come throughout this trial is what a tangled web we weave.”

Judge Dickson was more right than she knew, because CAIR is now smearing her with a shameful tangling of the facts.
In the interest of justice for Sharon Dickson, as well as of blunting CAIR’s media blitz, let us quickly pick up the threads of this story.
On March 29, 2018 Fazial Azizan took his girlfriend’s car without asking her and used it as an Uber driver to pick up a Ms. Thurman.
Ms. Thurman sat in the back seat while giving Azizan directions. Presently, Azizan began driving erratically, shouting “I don’t need to take this shit any more.”
“She thought he was talking to her, but then she realized that he was talking on the phone.”
“Ms. Thurman then started to plead for him to calm down. At that point in time, the defendant threatened to push Ms Thurman out the car if she didn’t shut up.”

Thurman was trapped in the back seat of the car driven by Azizan when his girlfriend slammed the car she was driving into the back of the Azizan vehicle.
Ms. Thurman was in the process of calling 911 when the girlfriend marched up and began pounding on the windows, telling Thurman to get out. This was her car and Azizan had stolen it. Azizan told Thurman to stay in the car or else the girlfriend would beat her up. When he determined it was safe, Azizan began stabbing his finger into Ms Thurman’s knee, telling her to exit the car. He threatened her, saying, “I’ll kick your ass and throw you out of my car myself.”
Ms Thurman then exited the car and reported to an officer on scene that Azizan had threatened her.
When the ambulance arrived, the EMTs treated Ms Thurman’s back injuries. Azizan then entered the ambulance, shrieking like a banshee in order to get treatment, and distract the EMTs from Thurman’s more serious injuries. @ 00:28
The EMTs wanted to be rid of him and asked the police for help. Azizan ignored repeated commands from the police to exit the ambulance before finally coming out on his own.
“I’ve been in law enforcement for about four years and that’s the first time I’ve ever had an ambulance ask to remove somebody.”

After the police determined that Azizan was not driving while intoxicated, they arrested him for disorderly conduct. But once again, Azizan did not comply, he did not cooperate, and it required two police officers to put the cuffs on Azizan. The police dragged him to the open squad car door and piled him in, whereupon he pretended to faint.
Once at the hospital, Azizan refused to speak English, and demanded a Farsi interpreter.
Fazial Azizan interfered in his girlfriend’s life. He then endangered the life of Ms. Thurman. Azizan interfered with the ambulance crew. He interfered with the police, and he interfered with the hospital staff.
And this behavior continued into the courtroom, where he tried to defend himself by not answering the city attorney’s questions, interrupting the judge, and refusing to follow procedures.
This is what judge Dickson was talking about.
Despite this, when the City attorney recommended a six-month sentence considering the fact that Azizan had a prior conviction for domestic abuse and a conviction for child abuse (domestic violence in the presence of a child), the judge gave him only 5 months.
The difference between the transcript of the trial and the media’s reporting on it is the real story here.
The web site Above the Law sums up the intended message very clearly by headlining it – “Judge’s Isalmaphobia [sic] Gets The Best Of Her At Sentencing”
But Above the Law did not read the court transcript. They followed CAIR’s script. CAIR’s fingerprints are all over this. Above the Law credits CAIR with representing Azizan. But someone else did that. CAIR’s job is to handle the publicity and media spin.
WSBTV did read the transcript, but they did not report it accurately. Although they show the recording of Azizan shrieking in the ambulance, WSBTV covers it with footage of Azizan laughing with his attorneys. WSB claims Azizan was suffering from PTSD. But a reading of the transcript shows that this sort of thing is Azizan’s lifestyle. That is what the judge said. How did WSBTV get it so wrong?
How CAIR is able to manipulate the media and get on the news, gain legitimacy, and then exploit their contacts to facilitate a smear campaign against Sharon Dickson is a story that is still waiting to be told.
Whether Judge Dickson overstepped or should remain in Sandy Springs is for the professionals to decide. However, this much is clear — CAIR should not be allowed to use the media to smear Sharon Dickson without challenge.
