“Moderate” Indonesia is constantly held up as some kind of example of a moderate Muslim country. You can’t make this stuff up.

The pair were whipped more than 80 times each in front of a 1,000-strong jeering crowd, after having been apprehended by a homophobic vigilante mob earlier this year.
They were among 15 people whipped outside a mosque in the fundamentalist Muslim province’s capital Banda Aceh on Friday, which also saw a young woman caned for selling alcohol.

Both the young woman and the gay couple were led up to a platform dressed in white, while a masked ‘executioner’ rained down lashes from a rattan cane on their backs.

The unidentified men were the second gay couple whipped in public this year in Aceh, underscoring the increasing discrimination faced by Indonesia’s small LGBT community.
The men had been apprehended by a vigilante mob at a Banda Aceh beauty salon earlier this year and handed over to police, authorities said.
The men were reportedly found guilty of homosexual intercourse after a court established that they were in a relationship.

Gay sex is not illegal elsewhere in Indonesia, but there has been a backlash against the community in recent years.
Aceh is the only region in Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim-majority country, that imposes Islamic law.
Public flogging is a common punishment for a range of offences including gambling, drinking alcohol, and having gay sex or relations outside of marriage.
‘Hopefully the flogging we’re witnessing today will serve as a lesson for people not to violate sharia (Islamic law),’ said Banda Aceh official Tarmizi Yahya.
Few in the crowd appeared to have much sympathy.
‘I don’t think they’re being serious about the flogging – it looks like they are just playing around,’ said Bukhari, a fisherman who came to watch with his wife.

‘The sharia officer should have flogged them as hard as he could.’
Aceh, on the northern tip of Sumatra island, said this year it would stop public whippings, and in future carry out such punishments behind prison walls, however, the new policy has not yet been implemented.
Rights groups slam public caning as cruel, and Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo has called for it to end, but the practice has wide support among Aceh’s mostly Muslim population.
Erwin Desman, head of the Banda Aceh prosecutors’ office, said it had not received any paperwork ordering public canings to stop and called for the issue to be reexamined.
‘There are pros and cons for this in society. So we suggest we sit with the governor again (to discuss this),’ he told reporters, adding that caning would continue to be held in public for now.
Aceh started using religious law after it was granted special autonomy in 2001, an attempt by the central government to quell a long-running separatist insurgency.

There are no moderates when it comes to Islam. Ironically, the
Leftists of all persuasions, including the Gay communities choose to
remain tools of Islam. One can only hope that the Leftists are learned
in the tenets of Islam and have their prayer mats and Quran at the
ready. They will be the first victims of the Jihad, especially Gays.

A little history: The Dutch tried for decades with military force to pacify Aceh; they failed. The Dutch tried again with help from the British to subdue Aceh. Both failed. The Dutch stopped trying with the outbreak of WWI. The Dutch are despised in Indonesia and Malaysia. For several years after WWII the Japanese Army maintained order and law throughout Indonesia.

I saw a documentary on Indonesia’s small, frightened Jewish community. The story focused on one synagogue that was deliberately located in an area of Indonesia (spit) with a large Christian population. Only ONE member of the synagogue agreed to go on camera and be interviewed and the external shots of the synagogue made it clear there were no external indications it was a synagogue whatsoever. Apparently under Dutch rule things were much easier for Indonesian Jews but now they live in fear.
Indonesia’s oldest synagogue mysteriously burned to the ground and the all muslum Indonesian fire department was unable to do anything about it.

But you’re not “involving god in something you’re capable of doing yourself”. You’re saying what is an abomination to god, in other words speaking on god’s behalf as if you have the right to. And I didn’t say anything about rights, just that Christianity preaches tolerance to all, something you’re clearly not doing.
I’m always intrigued when people care so passionately, as you do, what two people choose to do with their own genitals and a willing partner. I can’t help noticing how often those who protest loudest and hardest are in fact homosexual themselves. And in denial.

It is a moderate Muslim country. In the Middle East, these people would be thrown from a roof. Also, with caning, your skin is usually ripped open and many would not survive 15 lashes, so this was apparently done for “show” purposes.
Some areas in Indonesia are not Muslim-majority areas. Other religions are allowed, making them different from other Muslim countries, where non-Muslims are killed. While this may not be the most advanced civilization in the world, at least to a degree, they live, and let live.
Most people around the world, Muslim, Christian, or whatever, do not like homosexuality. I don’t hold resentment towards them, but when I picture gay sex in my mind, it sickens me. So, I try not to think about it, as long as it does not affect me. Most people are the same way I think, but there are always going to be people who feel they have to control all of your actions to make sure they fit in.

The LGBT love Muslims! They get some awesome sex parties staying in Islamic countries! Vast majority of male muzlums do other males. Being a man having sex with other men or young boys is totally accepted by muslims and islam. Just no romance. No clue why they did this. Mostly these punishers hit muslims men in private as part of their sex rituals. I read a lot about that in my training program. This is pretty much just for show. As long as a man marries and creates offspring, he can have as much sex with whomever he wants in islam. Even goats…
