Top British Diplomat Calls Out U.N. Human Rights Council for ‘Disproportionate’ Focus on Israel

28

It was just a few days ago that Nikki Haley, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, went on an epic tear against the global body for its anti-Israel leanings, and ultimately, brought to vote a historic resolution that named Hamas as a leader of violence in Gaza.

That vote failed on a procedural matter. But not before a plurality of present heads of state voted in favor of it.

And now comes a top British diplomat, echoing Haley’s remarks about the too-tough-on-Israel nature of the United Nations.

Story continues below advertisement

U.K. Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson told the Human Rights Council that its constant trashing of the Jewish state was impacting chances for Mideast peace.

From The Algemeiner:

The UN Human Rights Council’s focus on Israel is “disproportionate and damaging to the cause of peace,” Britain’s top diplomat said in remarks at a gathering of the Geneva-based body on Monday.

UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson went on to announce that, “unless things change,” his country would “move next year to vote against all resolutions introduced under Item 7” — the permanent agenda spot dedicated by the 47-member UNHRC to the “human rights situation in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories.”

Johnson’s speech came amid new reports the US was on the verge of withdrawing from the UNHRC, which is now holding a three-week session through July 6.

Last year, US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley said her country might pull out of the UNHRC unless its “chronic anti-Israel bias” was eliminated.

Israel’s ambassador and permanent representative to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva, Aviva Raz Shechter, thanked Johnson later on Monday via Twitter, saying the “biased attitude” of the UNHRC “hinders its legitimacy to tackle human rights around the world.”

In New York, Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon told The Algemeiner, “It has long been clear that the Human Rights Council is the antithesis of an organization that cares for human rights. If there is any hope for UN institutions to serve the international community, then the member-states must hold all its organization and agencies accountable and put an end to the ongoing anti-Israel bias that has existed for far too long.”

In a statement, the Board of Deputies of British Jews praised Johnson’s “bold, clear and important intervention at the UN Human Rights Council.”

Johnson’s “commitment that the UK will vote against all resolutions in 2019 tabled under the infamous Item 7, which singles out Israel as the only country in the world to have its own agenda item, is an important victory for human rights,” Sheila Gewolb — senior vice president of the BoD — said. “Human rights are universal and should be applied universally and not in such a nakedly biased way. The UN Human Rights Council is undermined by politicization and the singling out of Israel in its standing agenda and the UK has shown the way to giving this potentially crucial body much greater weight and standing.”

Breaking: US Senate blocks F-35 stealth planes to Turkey
Jun 19, 2018 @ 12:39
http://www.debka.com/mivzak/a-us-senate-majority-blocks-f-35-stealth-planes-to-turkey/
“At the last minute, by a large majority of 85 to 10, the US Senate blocked the sale of the advanced US F-35 stealth planes to Turkey until a detailed plan is presented to prove that Ankara would not have access to US technology for its home manufacture of components. This was one of Turkey’s conditions for purchasing 100 F-35 planes in a $10bn deal. First deliveries were due on June 21. A compelling argument against the sale was Turkey’s decision to buy sophisticated Russian S-400 air defense missile systems.”

Thanks for the update, Democracy Rules; it seems the US Senate is a tad savvier than I ever gave them credit.

It’s mind-boggling that the Dems voted against the deal for the F-35s. Lucidity and concern about the security of our one real ally, Israel are rare in the Democrat-Islamic Party. Once again, I appreciate the update.

Glad to read that. But my concern has always been how many of those Turkish F-35’s would Russia get to “examine?”

I remember when the USA was called the arsenal of democracy, not the arsenal of theocratic, totalitarian, islamic religious apartheid states.

Agree. They are only taking out conservative, patriots , anti-Left/liberal and anti-jihad posts
and allow jihadis to continue in UK and he would not dare speak about it but was muslims favorite shill before they decided to replace him with their jihadi mayor in London !

Like this news of brutal gang rape of swedish girl and what they did to her is even worse
http://bit.ly/2z2rVov

But it was suppressed /played down !

But reason why he is speaking out is because of US firm stance and he wants to join in !

May is weak so maybe he is trying to usurp her.
Who knows!

Perhaps Boris is looking for brownie-points. The UK is far from being an ally with Israel or a protector of Jews in Britain or anywhere else.

How can the British government be trusted, after all it has done to enable jihad within its own country? Look at the fate of Tommy Robinson.

It’s the ELITES that are corrupt.
The British people voted for BREXIT.
Nearly two years later and they still REMAIN because that is what the ELITES want.

SITREP Israel – Iran 6-19-2018
Big changes happening
– Russia is shifting from pro Syria to pro Israel
– Greece / Israel just practiced long distance bombing
– designed to practice refueling, bombing unfamiliar territory
– and defeating S-300 Russian anti-aircraft systems
– Israel says F-35 is up and running, overflew Iran and Syria
– Trump has okayed long-distance refueling aircraft
– for Israel [Obama had denied them]

Putin is not a good guy BUT Trump could find some common ground with him on Muslims.

Putin doesn’t give a damn about Muslims. They’ve been living in Russia since 12 Century. It’s 20 Millions of Muslims in Russia, but Putin keeps them under control with a stick and carrots.

I heard the UN is corrupt. That all the members do is ask for money. They abuse their diplomatic immunity and there is supposedly MILLIONS in unpaid parking bills from these basturds.

They do not care about America or Americans. The UN should be shut down and converted into a hotel. Reverse the money flow back out.

Hopefooly, we will not have any Demoncraps in power to steal this money to aid and abet your enemies in lieu of the UN closure.

UNHCR is headed by Saudi Arabia. What a joke! What do these Wahhabi fundamentalists know about Human Rights? – a liberal , western concept that is anathema to their plagiarised rag of a book and their barbaric, totalitarian death cult. No wonder it is staunchly anti Israel. Glad the US has resigned from this corrupt Taquiya front. It has zero credibility.
