Amazon Caved, Lets Muslim Workers Put Ramadan Before Prime Day

59

Earlier this week, I reported that dozens of Muslim workers protested outside of an Amazon warehouse center south of Minneapolis on Monday, voicing their concerns over workplace conditions during Ramadan.

Needless to say, Amazon, caved.

This is further proof of what I have explained for years. Accommodation to Muslim demands gives way to more demands, more submission. One prime example of this is what happened to Hertz. Hertz was exceedingly generous to their Muslim workers. And the Muslim response was an endless war of litigation and attrition. Hertz provided prayer rooms, rugs and prayer break times. Not good enough. Back in 2011, I reported that Hertz had was forced to suspend 35 Muslim workers because they were abusing their extra special “prayer break times” and refusing to clock out when praying. There was no way of knowing when their Muslim workers returned from their lengthy prayer breaks — five times a day. Then Muslim workers officially filed a lawsuit against the Hertz rental car company for “islamophobia.”

Story continues below advertisement

I’ve been warning about this for years. You can read about it, and find tips for resisting it, in my book Stop the Islamization of America.

American companies have been accompanying Muslim demands for years, and we have seen the explosion of Muslim lawsuits against American businesses — because no matter how much they accommodate, and they invariably do, it’s never enough.

The Muslim flight attendant who refuses to serve alcohol to airline passengers. The Muslim who took Abercrombie and Fitch all the way to the Supreme Court because she wanted to wear the hijab despite their dress code. The Muslims who sued Star Transport trucking because they refused to do their job, transport alcohol.

Muslim lawsuits against Hertz, Wal-Mart, Target, Disney and a host of other American businesses for special rights, special accommodation have been largely successful creating a special rights for a special class of people — which is an accordance with Islam (in which Muslims are superior to the kuffar). But it goes against every American tenet of individual rights and separation of mosque and state).

Amazon Lets Muslim Workers Put Ramadan Before Prime Day

By Josh Eidelson and Spencer Soper, Bloomberg, June 7, 2018:

The run-up to Amazon Prime Day, the e-commerce giant’s big July sales promotion, overlaps with Ramadan, 30 sacred days during which many observant Muslims fast and seek time off.

That’s creating tension in Minnesota’s Twin Cities region, where activists say Amazon.com Inc. employs more than 1,000 East African Muslim immigrants at four warehouses. Amazon needs to stuff its facilities with inventory in preparation for one of its busiest days of the year at the very time many of those workers want a break.

The conflicting demands of the religious holiday and the corporate one has helped spur something almost unheard of: Concerted workplace activism by employees of Amazon. In a tight labor market, at a sensitive moment for management, employees say the company is making moves to address the culture clash.

“We don’t want to pick between our wages and our faith,” said Abdirahman Ali, one of dozens of workers from the four facilities who organizers say have become leaders in the effort.

In a statement, Amazon said, “We offer a positive, safe and accommodating workplace for employees, including providing a great pay of $15 per hour and comprehensive benefits. We respect the religious practices of employees and offer accommodations as needed.” One person familiar with the situation, who asked not to be identified giving details about it, said that Amazon has historically made accommodations for workers observing Ramadan, such as providing prayer space and mats and adjusting break times.

Amazon has largely avoided the consumer backlash associated with “Christmas creep” — retailers opening on Thanksgiving Day to kick off the season, only to take heat from employees and customers for commercializing the November holiday — since all shopping is done digitally and its warehouse workers toil out of sight of customers. The clash over Ramadan is a rare public display of Amazon’s warehouse workers seeking accommodations from the demands of a web store that never closes.

On Monday, organizers said 15 Amazon employees and a few dozen other activists converged on the retailer’s Eagan, Minnesota, delivery center, where they rallied outside and then filled the entryway, chanting “Yes we can” in Somali and English. The demonstrators handed a management representative a letter with a series of requests, including a call to curb their heavy workloads while they’re fasting and to let them take time off without penalty for Eid, the festival that ends Ramadan.

That followed organizing last month at Amazon’s fulfillment center in nearby Shakopee, where employees circulated fliers throughout the building urging their co-workers to wear shirts and hijabs that were blue, the color of the Somali flag, on a chosen day to show support for similar demands. Before the day employees had designated, workers said, the facility’s top manager pulled them together to announce that the company was creating on-site prayer rooms and would ease up on employees’ quotas for the duration of the fast.

“That showed us that we are very powerful,” said Aaisha Jama, an employee at the facility who’s been mobilizing colleagues for the cause and working with counterparts from other sites. Organizers say that workers had previously sought to address the issue by using the company’s “open door” policy and by going as a group to visit human resources.

Amazon has more than 100 million Prime subscribers globally who pay monthly or annual membership fees in exchange for fast delivery, video and music streaming and online photo storage. The company launched Prime Day in 2015 to mark its 20th anniversary and promote the benefits of the program. Prime members spend more money on Amazon than non-members, so the company keeps trying to add perks to increase its value. Seattle-based Amazon hasn’t yet announced the exact date for this year’s Prime Day.

Amazon has been on a years-long hiring binge to accommodate sales growth. It had 563,100 employees as of March 31, up 60 percent from a year earlier, mainly because of its acquisition of Whole Foods Market Inc. but also due to new warehouses around the country.

The company also faces an unusual labor shortage, with the U.S. unemployment rate narrowing to 3.8 percent in May, matching a 48-year low, according to the Labor Department. “If there was ever an opportunity for aggressive union action, now is the time because the labor market has become so tight,” former National Labor Relations Board Chair William Gould said earlier this year.

The Minnesota workers aren’t currently trying to unionize Amazon, a task that has long eluded U.S. organizers. The group behind the Twin Cities efforts is the Awood Center, a year-old local advocacy group for East African workers that’s backed by the Service Employees International Union and by Minnesota’s chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations. Organizers say they started hearing from Amazon workers last year while circulating a petition against Islamophobia, and word spread quickly through the tight-knit immigrant community there, said Abdirahman Muse, who directs the center. East African immigrants make up the majority of the four Twin Cities warehouses’ staff, organizers say, and many shop, pray and socialize at the same places.

“If they don’t have a union, they don’t know where to go,” said Muse, “so we decided to fill that gap.”

As much as I despise Jeff Bezos, I’d hate to see Amazon totally “crash and burn”. Why not just close down the 4 obviously Muslim run, SEIU and CAIR influenced warehouses. Just wait until they get “unionized”.

that’s what I did.. 2 moooooooooooooooslims wanted to tell me what they were going to do on my time/dime.. I paid off all contracts,,, sent the food stuff to the boys home,,, killed the power and locked the electrical box,,,,, put the ruggggs out side and waited for the expressions on everyone’s face the next morning.. Had the “last” check in hand and bid everyone goodbye!! All equipment was sold to industrial developer @ 10 cents on the dollar.. And the past employee’s watched as they carted off the equipment.. Now because 2 mooooooooooooooooslims,,, 13 are on the unemployment line..

Then one of them wanted to sue me over his job.. He got an attorney and I had my attorney contact his and there wasn’t another word said about anything.. You see, He hadn’t made his 90 days at the company so he couldn’t collect unemployment benefits. He was there 75 days.. Not a full quarter.

I went to see my “Mouth” and he gave me all of the statutes that I would need to blow the judges mind.. Most of these were centered around the labor laws.. The one that really stuck in the other guys attorney’s crow was he hadn’t been employed for 1 full quarter.. Labor law reads that you have to gamefully employed for 1 full calendar quarter,(90) days He was there 75 days.. Not enough time for an average.. According to the schedule he would’ve received only about $75.00 a month anyway.. Max.. But now since Reagan passed the income tax law (circa ’86) about unemployment ins,,, He would’ve cleared about 60 a month.. So, word to the wise,, if you’re on it,,, put away 15% for taxes..

Too old to bother….nobody hires those as old as me. I only collected unemployment twice in my life…..once in 1973 when we moved out of state, and in 2004 when my husband passed and since we were hired as a team, I lost my job…..now I’m just too old.

Been laid off twice with the same company.. Kept my recall rights up and retired with the same company after 22 years.. But I was lucky,, having relatives in the TV industry I could work at different stations as a temp.. abc, cbs, nbc, pbs ….. In the PBS station,,, I worked on “Mr. Rodgers” neighborhood. 2nd time was “plant Closure”. So I learned that industry.

My husband works for a Muslim owned company. I asked him if they hire them and he said that he doesn’t think that he works with any. The company is a really good company to work for and they hire good people,

And that doesn’t even begin to start on those 2 !”HOMO’S”! that wanted to play legal.. I had 4 “GO” video’s going all of the time.. They tried to say that I wouldn’t bake them a cake.. I just gave them a price that they didn’t want or couldn’t pay.. All of this stemmed from these 2 “HOMO’S” that wanted to make trouble.. After the court battle that lasted 2 hrs,, of which they tried to give faults evidence,, a doctored tape,, I had a paper bag with 4 other tapes in it.. They wanted 2 “FULL” sheet cakes with icing in between 2 teir 72″ X 60″ ,,,, and they wanted it in 2 weeks.. I gave them a price of 745.00 not including the deposit for the base which was refundable.. That was 40.00.. Won that also..

THS is dangerous. You are letting them get a foothold in your culture. You should not be doing this. Especially if you are a Jew who owns a business.

At some point these Moslems will start to work against you. And strangely, you’ll go along. Haven’t they learned from Hezekiah’s fate and World war II?

From Neville Chamberlain even? They are your ENEMIES. You must NEVER forget this fundamentalism. Look what China is doing to you and even Russia.

Do you understand communism?? It’s a PAGAN system. You make DEALS with the DEVIL DEALING with them. Now they threaten you with WAR with your own stolen technology and weapons system. Their military equipment, strangely, looks like OURS!!!

Muslims are like kids demanding sweets (US candy) once you give in they will just keep demanding more and more
One of the problems especially in USA is that there are so many laws now in support of workers ‘rights’ that the businesses just have to give in. The rule should be work to our requirements or find another job

Unions will organize them. It;s just a matter of time.
If Amazon was smart, they tell them to take a leave of absence or vacation time to discourage the slackers. Ideally they shouldn’t hire them. Soon they will need 24/7 prayer time!

Much of this problem would be solved if Islam were were simply declassified as a religion.

An employer need not provide an accommodation that will create an undue hardship for the company. … However, an employer does not have to hire additional employees or pay regular overtime or other premium wages to accommodate an employee’s religious practices.

“That showed us we are very powerful,” said a Muslim after Amazon gave in to their demands. Just what we thought. We are allowing people into the U.S. who cannot become part of our culture. Instead, they want America to concede to their culture.

The note Amazon must include in their orders to all of their customers: Dear valued customer, You may know that Amazon hired 1,000 East African immigrants. Amazon customers ALWAYS come first, but Muslims are a special case. Muslims are a special people whose desires and demands must be met at all times by non-Muslims.

Amazon is delighted to meet the many demands of our Muslim employees. We’re pleased to announce that the demands of Amazon’s Muslim employees for Ramadan are being met. You’re most likely aware that Muslims get very violent when their
demands are not met!

Ramadan is the holiest time of year for Muslims. Ramadan is also the time when Muslims carry out the greatest number of terror attacks, showing the whole world that savagely slaughtering non-Muslim innocents is especially holy during Ramadan. Thank you for your understanding as to why your order may be late: CUSTOMERS COME FIRST, but MUSLIM EMPLOYEES must take precedence over non-Muslims!

Serving and pleasing our Muslim employees is Amazon’s top priority!

Sincerely yours,

Amazon
