How Commands In Your Subconscious Mind Controls You

By Ange Fonce

In this article I am going share with you and explain a powerful technique that works, and you can use it in any situation.

Yet first, some more interesting facts:

According to one of the fathers of NLP, we only use .1% of our brain consciously.

The subconscious mind makes up the majority of our brain activity, and that is where all change and transformation occurs.

Why?

Because if your subconscious mind does not believe what you are telling it, if it does not stick, then no change in your mind and behaviors will actually occur long term.

So basically:

Conscious mind – cannot change habits long term.

Unconscious mind – controls all your habits.

This means learning to work with the subconscious mind is important, right?

If you are trying to get someone to try something new, you have to know how to get their brain to be comfortable with it – yourself included.

Between your conscious and subconscious mind is what they call the “critical faculty,” which prevents information from getting deep into your subconscious mind and impacting your behavior and internal attitudes.

The critical faculty is the guard that blocks your way into the subconscious mind.

And is key to working with the subconscious mind

This is a “mind trick” that works well and using repetition eventually gets through the other person’s critical faculty that is blocking them from actually hearing the information.

Until that point, they are operating on an subconscious set of behaviors regardless of what you ask them.  We have all had to deal with this block in other people…

Once you get through their critical faculty, they finally hear in their subconscious mind what you are trying to tell them all that time, and they are able to modify their response.

This is also how hypnosis works.

When you get hypnotized, your critical faculty gets blurry or porous, and allows information to break directly into your subconscious mind and influence you.

If you want to influence someone at a lasting level, you must affect their subconscious mind.

This is why NLP and Hypnosis are so powerful for everything from starting conversations, conveying value, and building comfort and report to promoting lasting change from the inside.

These tools work instantly by blurring the critical faculty and directly locking-on to the subconscious mind.

This is essential if you want to meet new people, influence the people around you, and persuade people to try new things and experiences.

It is important to know the impact of words on the subconscious mind.

Here Is A Powerful Example

When you say to a child...

"Don't spill the milk on the couch."

Yet most of the time... they will spill it almost immediately.

This is because they lack a critical faculty. The words go right through into their subconscious and the subconscious mind hears the words... “spill the milk.”

In NLP is that there are no negatives.  If you say...

“Don’t spill the milk,” your unconscious mind hears “spill the milk.”

As an adult, your critical faculty prevents this from happening all the time. Yet it does not always work.

Ever played the “pink elephant” game?

It goes like this:

“Close your eyes. Whatever you do, do not think about a pink elephant. Got it? Ok, now tell me what you are thinking about.”

The answer?

It is going to be a pink elephant.

If the critical faculty is working well, when you tell an adult...

"Don't spill the milk."

The brain will make an internal representation of what spilled milk means, and then delete it.

A young child would make that same representation of what milk spilling looks like, and will not get around to deleting it.

They will carry it around like a hidden hypnotic command in their subconscious mind.

“See milk? Spill it!”

Suddenly you think your child is clumsy.  You do not realize that you just told their subconscious mind to spill all milk everywhere.

I am sure you’ve seen people like this who, 20 years later, still have not deleted an old subconscious command like “spill” or “trip and fall” or some other subconscious act that they are constantly doing as an adult.

The lesson here is this:

Instead of telling people what NOT to do, tell them what to DO.

Like... "be careful with the milk."

This is especially relevant when people are under stress because the critical faculty weakens and lets things more easily slip into the subconscious mind.

When dealing with a stressful situation, do not use "don't" because the Brian does not recognise the word "don't."

It will usually get you the opposite of what you want...

Use the positive

This is actual positive thinking

It is not about saying “good things” to yourself all the time, it is about using the positive grammar of speech to tell your subconscious mind what you want it to do.

There is no benefit to telling a computer what you don’t want it to do.

Then it just does nothing.  You have to program it to actually DO what you want.

Think of your mind and behaviors in the same way.

Think positive and use positive language!

Have you any thoughts or comments you would like to share with me on what I have written?

I would love to hear from you.

Thank you and may you enjoy a Loving... Prosperous and Dynamic day!
