Dramatic pictures of the capturing of an Egyptian, stabbing a policeman on a busy street in Kalamata, Greece, were revealed in court yesterday, CNN reports.

The bloody incident took place in September last year, when an Egyptian migrant was arrested by police officers. During his arrest, the perpetrator was holding a large knife in his hands, which he did not hesitate to use against the police officer Mr Giannoulias, when he realised that this very police officer was about to arrest him.

By doing so, the migrant stabbed the police officer in the shoulder. This incident happened on one of the most crowded streets of Kalamata, with passers-by watching the scene in horror.

Panagiotis Giannoulis, the policeman chasing the migrant, was hit on the head before, leaving the wound over his right eyebrow bleeding. The shocking images were shown during the trial of the migrant, that started on April 24.

The migrant is accused, among other things, of attempted homicide, as he injured two other police officers during his prosecution as well.

The image of several armed Greek police officers, who were unable to stop a single man with their guns have thrown a bad light on the Greek public opinion of the police.
