Israeli PM Netanyahu Hails ‘Historic’ $15 Billion Deal to Export Natural Gas to Egypt

11

Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, cheered this week the signing of what’s being billed as a “historic” deal valued at $15 billion that will allow the Jewish nation to export natural gas to Egypt.

The gas will come from Israel’s Tamar and Leviathan fields.

Here’s a little background on the development of Tamar:

The Algemeiner has more:

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hailed on Monday the signing of a “historic” $15 billion deal to export Israeli natural gas to Egypt.

The profits from the agreement, Netanyahu said, will benefit the “education, health and social welfare” of all Israelis.

“This is a joyous day,” the prime minister declared.

The deal on the sale of natural gas extracted from Israel’s Tamar and Leviathan fields in the Mediterranean Sea was announced on Monday by Delek Drilling.

And Ahval News has this:

Reuters news agency quoted the Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu saying that the agreement between two countries would strengthen Israeli economy and “strengthen regional ties.”

“The partners in Israel’s Tamar and Leviathan offshore gas fields said they have signed with private Egyptian firm Dolphinus Holdings to supply a total of around 64 billion cubic meters of gas over a decade – with half coming from each field and the proceeds split equally between them.”

Israeli energy minister Yuval Steinitz was quoted calling the deal the most significant export deal with Egypt since the historic peace treaty between countries in 1979.

The CEO of Delek subsidiary Delek Drilling Yossi Abu was quoted saying “Egypt is becoming a real gas hub,” to Reuters. “This deal is the first deal of potentially more to come.”

For all the criticism Netanyaho receives from the usual suspects, his diplomacy and approach to regional issues has greatly improved Israel’s standing in much of the Arab world. He will go down in history as an historic figure.

Egypt has come a long way since Anwar Sadat, and now that Sisi has kicked out Obama’s buddy Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood, everything is going toward a more peaceful union of the two nations. Bibi has done a powerful job in leading Israel to a more powerful and secure nation.

Tell it to the Coptic Christians.

Coptic Christians are still persecuted in Egypt DESPITE Sisi’s efforts (not very effective at that…) to protect them on account of Egypt still being very much divided between the more secular / pro American segment of Egyptian society (Led by the omnipotent Egyptian military complex / hegemony establishment) and the masses (several tens of millions!) of poor / illiterate / religious Egyptians, that faithfully follow the equally powerful “Muslim Brotherhood” movement of Islamic zealots with it’s global reach and a post national vision of global domination

As for the Sisi / Bibi relations, farflung is right, relations are markedly improved and improving (Huge natural gas deal!!!) to an unprecedented, positive level

If only the Palestinian problem will be solved in a way acceptable to Israel (Security / politically / diplomatically wise), the prospects for robust / sustainable / mutually beneficial peace in the Middle East (Led by Sisi / Bibi / Mohammad Bin Salman[of KOSA] and backed by Trump), will be staggering!

Better get payment up front and in the form of cold, hard cash.

No risk of non payment as Israel has the absolute power of closing the tap…

Same situation applies for Israel’s Jordanian, natural gas clients

With the Palestinian natural gas client, the over all situation is probably somewhat more complex, at least for the time being…

Once the current, EU / Russia / China / US left / Israeli left supported, Palestinian leadership (of the “Oslo accord” / Yasser Arafat era / infamy) will phase out (politically / physically… Within the next few years), a new and very promising opportunity will present itself for a far more robust / sustainable regional peace agreement to be achieved between Israel and the so called moderate, Sunni, Muslim world, including post Mahmoud Abbas Palestinian leadership, Egypt, Jordan, KOSA, UAE’s, North African states, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan…? etc

I wouldn’t trust the Egyptians any further than I could throw their ass upwind. Remember, currying diplomatic relations with Israel is what got Anwar Sadat assassinated by his own bodyguard detail, a common fate in the land of ragheads.

Exactly! I can’t believe Israel would even mess with a country like Egypt! Doesn’t Israel even know how the leader of that country treats christians? I’m so upset, that Israel would stoop so low!

It’s not Just the Terrorists: al-Sisi’s Government Persecutes Egypt’s Christians

I’m sure Sisi has earned some enemies with this move among his fellow muslums and regime change in the muslum world is always just an assassination away (e.g. Sadat, Qaddafi, Mubarak).
