The actress and singer Suchitra Krishnamoorthi was soundly condemned by Muslim leaders for saying in public that the early morning Islam calls to prayer — the ones the kick off at 5 a.m. — are intrusive and uncivilized.
Specifically, she said the blasting of the calls to prayers on loudspeakers are “not civilized.” And for that she was criticized?
Seriously. She’s quite right.

Singer and actress Suchitra Krishnamoorthi posted a tweet saying,“To be waking up entire neighbourhood at 5 am is not civilized.” …
[T]he Samajwadi Party mocked the former saying her sleep is more important than the call to prayers.
“Such irresponsible comments have been made in the past also. I am unable to understand what kind of people they are. I would like to know how does azaan, which otherwise purifies you on hearing, bother her. May be her sleep is more important,” SP leader Juhi Singh told ANI, on Monday.
Krishnamoorthy, on July 23, tweeted complaining about the sound of azaan after reaching home early in the morning.
“came home at 4.45 am 2 most aggressive/ ear shattering call of azaan. Nothing more lowlife & dumb than such extreme imposed religiousity,” (sic) she tweeted.
However, the singer had to face the wrath of Twitterati, who started commenting on her post.
To one such tweet, Krishnamoorthi said waking up the entire neighbourhood at five in morning is uncivilised.

“Krishna” means Lord Krishna, the beloved incarnation of the god Vishnu who is the closest thing the Hindus have to a Jesus figure. (Ok, he’s not much like Jesus, but the other Hindu deities and their incarnations are even less so.)
“murthy” or murtii means image, statue, form, or (in a religious context) idol.
So her family name means literally “idol of Lord Krishna”, which is definitely haraam, whereas lying, polygamy, slavery, wife beating, child rape, FGM, and plain old-fashioned murder of Jews and other kuffar are perfectly halaal. Go figure.

But, typically, yes. The vast majority of “reverts” to Islam around the world, regardless of ethnicity, change their name to something Islamic, and in the Arabic language.
