Shrink plastic is not a plaything of the past. It is a great medium to use for jewelry making because it is a way of customizing acrylic without having to use a laser cutter!  Jewelry can look modern and fabulous with the right design.

Sloabn's tutorial for a simple statement necklace shows how to make clear acrylic bases out of shrink plastic and then gluing all sorts of crystals on them using E6000.  She even shares the shape templates having worked out how large the pieces should be to allow for the shrinkage.
