Boogie Continues to Impress With 'Thirst 48: Part II'

Ever since hearing Boogie's "Oh My," which was taken from his second mixtape, The Reach, I've been a fan, and it made me go back his first Thirst 48 mixtape. Outside of Kendrick, Boogie's my favorite voice out of California right now. For some reason, he's still seen as underrated, but hopefully Thirst 48 Part II, which just hit Spotify and iTunes yesterday, will turn these sleepers around.

There's a human quality about Boogie that I appreciate; we're both fathers who are big on talking shit but also delivering messages, and Boogie isn't afraid to open his heart and let listeners come in. Hell, there are a number of cuts on here dedicated to his up-and-down relationship with his girlfriend Jamesha. Feels like we've waited all summer for Boogie's Thirst 48, Pt. 2. While there's no word on when that's dropping, he did throw out a track from the project, "Sunroof," which feels like the perfect, strummed guitar lament for a decent summer. If you're a fan of contemplative, harmonizing Boogie, this is all you need.

Boogie Voices His Frustration on The Keyel-Produced "Hypocrite Freestyle"

I've been on some "I don't even know what the fuck to say about the fuckery this week" shit. And I write for a living. Truth be told, my thoughts are just for my son's future. He isn't even 100% aware of the fuckery going on in this world, because he's such a bright soul and optimistic. He gets that from his mother.

It's dope to have people like Boogie voice the frustration and confusion of being a father who knows the fuckery and is looking for his son or just trying to find a way to deal with this shit. We really should be in the shit, not writing songs or blog posts about it. Maybe we ain't shit.

I'll keep it a buck; I don't know Boogie from Adam. I hear Kendrick bigs him up, and that he dropped a tape (Thirst 48) last summer. Fuck all that for a second, this cut "Oh My"—which was produced by Jahlil Beats—has me open. One of my Complex compadres put me onto it, and I have had it on repeat ever since. When I'm done trying to break down multis and intricate rhyme patterns, I want something that just hits me immediately. And dude can spit... plus you feel him. This shit is raw as FUCK, and is the perfect song to kick off this summer, trust.
