June Linky Party – Baseball Father’s Day Card with Crafty Secrets
HAPPY JUNE, EVERYONE! Where, oh WHERE did May go?? Last month just flew by and it feels like we’re well into summer now, doesn’t it? In my house, summer means baseball season, so I just had to incorporate the sport into this month’s Linky Party project! This month’s theme is “Let’s Hear it for the Boys!” and we were charged with creating a masculine piece any guy would enjoy. I chose baseball and created a Father’s Day card! Take a look:
I found the letters, baseball card, and bingo card on the Creating with Vintage Typography CD #3, and the green background paper came from the Garden Papers digital collection. I began by opening each image and copying and pasting it into Microsoft Word. Then, I sized everything digitally before hitting print. Here’s a tip: Adjust the size of your background paper first, and then sort of arrange all the other elements digitally. You can move everything around and re-size your images until you get them in the exact size and layout you want, then print everything and start cutting! Sometimes if I just can’t decide on a size I’ll print the same image in multiple sizes, but I find it’s more helpful to play with things digitally before printing and cutting. Save paper and ink, you know!
I distressed the edges of all the papers then inked them up with my Vintage Photo distress ink. Then, I layered onto black or red cardstock cut 3/16″ larger than each element. It seems rather specific, but it’s my preferred interval – 1/8″ is too small and 1/4″ is too wide. What can I say, I’m a perfectionist!
The cork strip came from my stash and provided the perfect texture to pull the whole card together. A touch of Glossy Accents on the letters and the little round numbers added some texture and the smallest hint of shine. I added dimension by popping up “DAD” on foam squares – nothing too crazy, so I can still get this baby in the mail without worrying about it being destroyed 🙂

A fabulous masculine card. I like the layout and cute image.

I super love this card! It’s so YOU! The way you’ve used all the individual elements is simply brilliant! And the cork is the perfect textural feature. You surely hit a home run with this great Linky Party Project! xo
Great card, Melody!
Love how you used all the elements here Melody. I also use Microsoft Word and do the same thing. You can easily size things and check sizes before you print. The only thing that sometimes throws me is sizing buttons and little things but I do the same as you there as well, I just print a couple of sizes knowing I’ll use the other size eventually.
WOW what a clever creation! I too basically do the same process as you but I did catch one little trick you do that I don’t (but will now of course! LOL). Thanks for a fabulous masculine creation and helpful hints! Well done!
You have it out of the park with this one..(LOL)…a perfect birthday card this would make for my grandson…a masterpiece once again!!
This is a great DAD and Baseball card Melody, love how you combined everything! Also, thanks for including the printing tips as many people don’t have programs like Photoshop Elements.
